The silver lining of course is this group of freshmen. I wish that so many didn't need to be thrown into the fire right out of the gate, but that's where we're at. Wilson has always proclaimed that he wants this to be a developmental program, and that takes time as well as retention. Let's hope retention is good and KW 's plan that will be validated as these kids continue to see more time on the field. Beyond just smarts, Army and Navy are both 5-0 because they are developmental programs that keep their kids on campus and grow them in their respective systems. You guys do this every week when we just played what is likely the best team on the schedule. This is an incredibly young team but you are condemning an incredibly young team as being not as good as the players on grahams teams, and then condemning them to not be as good as montgomery's players.
Last year was so bad that he brought in as many freshman as he did. Why don't you wait till their sophomore or junior players before you pass judgement on these players.
Navy was awful and then a new coach came in and bam they were successful. I don’t think KW will be around long enough to see his “plan” throughThe silver lining of course is this group of freshmen. Defense on the other hand needs a new coordinator. Far too many fundamental failures once anything gets past the line of scrimmage and linebackers.
When is Wilson finally going to start to develop in his developmental program? The silver lining of course is this group of freshmen. I stayed for every bad play... every screen pass... but, mainly because one of my college classmates' father comes and sits with us at the half... its always fun to catch up with my adoptive family..For those that were at the game on Saturday - how was the attitude of the fans in your area?
For me, not only did the team not show any fire or emotion, that attitude also extended into the stands. Fans around me just sat and watched until they got tired of watching and then got up and left. I was up the steps before the last Army guy to run by me made it to the end zone.
Football should be fun and entertaining. This isn’t.
I'm asking myself the same question. When is Wilson finally going to start to develop in his developmental program?
I guess this is the silver lining to how we've been playingWe didn't lose that many in transfers last year, and i don't think we'll lose that many this year.
I don't know anything but my feeling is that most coaches come in and try to make the best they can of the players they have while also trying to get recruits who are better or fit the system better. Wilson, kind of true to his personality, seemed more like, "you're not my kind of player, on the bench" even if it meant playing worse guys. In other words, he's a pull the bandaid off kind of guy to get who he wants on the team, even if it hurts more in the short run. Thoughts? You guys do this every week when we just played what is likely the best team on the schedule. It will be a very short run if we dont see improvement and a few wins over teams we should beat.., even if it hurts more in the short run. Thoughts?
Because we haven’t paid market or conference rates for coaches since Graham. Or provided comparable facilities since Graham — and those cuts corners every place they could.Since Graham left, we’ve made 3 major dud hires and they’ve all sucked in their own special ways.
Thanks for doing that.I talked by phone to Justin this week after sending an email. He was very open in his discussion about his thoughts on the importance of success in football. I told him I bit my tongue after the Arkansas St and LA Tech games but couldn’t after the NTSU game. He told me he was surprised that there was not more communication on dissatisfaction about performance from the fan base. I told him there was plenty. He said at A&M any mediocre game performance would have led to a huge number emails and calls. Let him know your thoughts.
ThanksThanks for doing that.
One of the benefits of being a fan of a small program is the individual relationships you can gain through constructive dialog and positive contributions with senior administrators and staff. Some have become old friends through the years.
Yeah… I miss the excitement of the graham era. We had swagger, confidence, and a legit chance to win every time we stepped on the field. He had his shortcomings for sure, but his pros outweighed his cons.Because we haven’t paid market or conference rates for coaches since Graham. Saban’s books are so instructive on these issues, especially his theories about the inertia and complacency of institutions and processes even when people within them are properly motivated.
We’ve seen it in this thread. The institution had success 40 years ago. And we still think all we have to do is buy two players and suddenly all our problems will be solved. It no longer works that way. We’ve had teams with multiple NBA players on them and we languished. There are no short cuts.
Build it. Everyone will come. Fans, coaches, players, etc.
We refuse to build it and the networks, conferences, conference members and casual fans doubt we are serious. Because we aren’t.
We beat Notre Dame the last time the industry treated us as acting semi serious. More of that please.
Otherwise, Justin is spinning his wheels.
Graham's biggest strength was his ability to hire a very good staff.Yeah… I miss the excitement of the graham era. We had swagger, confidence, and a legit chance to win every time we stepped on the field. He had his shortcomings for sure, but his pros outweighed his cons.
Hopefully Dave Shittler doesn’t have any input on the next HC…
Malzahn was the Home Run.Graham's biggest strength was his ability to hire a very good staff.
I sent him one as well, polite but direct that I wanted to know if there is even a plan for football to be good ? I also stated I’m not expecting a top 5 team by any means but that we should be winning at least 6-8 games in this new conference a yearJustin-Moore@utulsa.edu
Copy Brad Carson as well. He needs to be reminded that football impacts the entire university particularly donations. He knows but it is a good reminder.
I think copying Brad Carson on these emails is impootant as well. Thanks.I sent him one as well, polite but direct that I wanted to know if there is even a plan for football to be good ? Oof. His email internet inbox will be insane.I think copying Brad Carson on these emails is impootant as well. Thanks.
I somehow don't think he minds, honestly. Carson is a winner and wants to win.Oof. His email internet inbox will be insane.
We are in a much better place program wise at this point...just have to get this next hire right.I think I miss when it was fun to be a TU fan.
Dobb's pass happy games, Coopers just winning, Kragthorpe delivering us back from the dead, Graham sustaining the program, . . .

President Carson gives out his personal cell phone number to parents and students each year at Freshman orientation. He encourages its use and responds to each message nightly. I’m sure that he will read and respond to emails as well.I somehow don't think he minds, honestly. Carson is a winner and wants to win.
He gave his number out on a podcast as well. He seems genuine about wanting feedback.President Carson gives out his personal cell phone number to parents and students each year at Freshman orientation. Cooper kept the fire going. lots of wins and bowlsOdd thing about Coopers time was that TU had many great years, but no bowl game appearances. Very few bowls during his tenure. Cooper was my favorite TU coach, and his weekly luncheons were first rate.
No bowl games here for Cooper. The Justice Bowl doesn’t count.Cooper kept the fire going. lots of wins and bowls
I know that guy! He was in the army for a while and only roots against an academy when they play TU. He also used to live across the street from the stadium in the late 1960s and would go to games.I stayed for every bad play... every screen pass... but, mainly because one of my college classmates' father comes and sits with us at the half... its always fun to catch up with my adoptive family..
Of Haisten or Michael Peters...because the only suggestions we'll get from them are Loren Montgomery should be the next coach at TU because TU can't possibly draw in a top level assistant because we can't pay as much as they want and we don't have the commitment from fans or admin to really compete on a national level...and then they make their annual suggestion that maybe we should drop down to FCSHopefully Dave Shittler doesn’t have any input on the next HC…
I assure you we are going to offer GOOD money to the next head coach. Money isn't an issue.Of Haisten or Michael Peters...because the only suggestions we'll get from them are Loren Montgomery should be the next coach at TU because TU can't possibly draw in a top level assistant because we can't pay as much as they want and we don't have the commitment from fans or admin to really compete on a national level...and then they make their annual suggestion that maybe we should drop down to FCS
Ugh. As a college admin, and one that worked at ORU where everyone felt they could bypass areas and go straight to the pastor (president) to get what they wanted, this is an absolute nightmare. They call the President directly claiming they're having the biggest problem and haven't gotten any help in getting it solved when in fact the student hasn't gone to anyone at the university who might be able to help them and just whined to mommy and daddy about how awful their roommate. Mommy and Daddy, instead of pushing their child to act like an adult and go to the RA or the hall director or even the Dean of Students, put on their snowplows and call the Pres directly because he said they could. Pres makes assumptions and wonders why no one has helped this student. Well, the student would have to tell us there was a problem first.President Carson gives out his personal cell phone number to parents and students each year at Freshman orientation. But we're just little old TU...why would we waste money on a good coach when it can be put to good use academically. I mean why does TU even try to be relevant in D1 athletics...we should leave that to the OU and OSU athlete factories in Oklahoma.I assure you we are going to offer GOOD money to the next head coach. Money isn't an issue.
What a stupid ass comment. Go be a fan of someone else. Our president and AD both want to win...and the new AD can make his mark on football. But we're just little old TU...why would we waste money on a good coach when it can be put to good use academically. Dude....you obviously haven't been on this board long enough to realize that was all sarcasm based on previous beat writers and the stupid ass they write because TU is tiny. Most of the long timers on this board know I've been around and a die hard TU fan for more than 30 years. I despise the way the local media treats us.What a stupid ass comment. Sorry. Breh you need a natty light and a chill pill. He was clearly taking jabs at the terrible attitude the tw has toward TU.What a stupid ass comment. Go be a fan of someone else. Our president and AD both want to win...and the new AD can make his mark on football.
Every time I read a comment like that, I immediately wonder how quickly Heff will get all wound up about it. I really think some topics are thrown out here just to see what type of response they will get.Breh you need a natty light and a chill pill. DO NOT get him started on Taylor swift.Every time I read a comment like that, I immediately wonder how quickly Heff will get all wound up about it. I really think some topics are thrown out here just to see what type of response they will get.
Heff should listen to his Taylor Swift/Michael Bolton mix tap for a bit. That will calm him down.
