The person was speaking in regards to the dynamics of our country, that in a state of stagnation, we naturally seem to fragment, but on certain occasions (typically during extreme hardships) we tend to want to unify despite our significant differences. It was also in reference to the apparent state of a “cold civil war” that quite a few people are perceiving these days, especially since our lines of division are no longer geographic in nature. Hopefully we can get the band back together again for one more go at The Chain...
