Fire him TOMORROW!

Most of them think we are all mentally ill fools.
then they may not be familiar with message boards… our board is incredibly tame (sans a few morons - who would be considered normal on most other boards). Take a look at an SEC board or even the board of the team who beat us last night: MUCH more intense:

But I get your point. There’s more to operating an athletic department, let alone a university, than what most of us consider when we’re unhappy about the results we’re seeing on the field/court. It doesn’t make it any less frustrating, but it’s good to keep in mind.

We all want to see success sustained. Maybe one day we’ll figure it out.

You need success before sustaining it!

Anyway, any rational person can expect and live with a bad season every now and then.

I agree about being respectful in every communication. My point about reaching out to Justin and Carson is based on a recent interaction, I heard the comment, we haven’t heard from that many fans with a concern about the football program. In the absence of hearing our/your disappointment with performance, officials will make up their own conclusions.

Evidently they don’t pay close attention to their fan base anymore. Just the ones who think things are going swimmingly because they treat them nice during their interactions and tell them how appreciative they are of the GPA improvements.

Probably has something to do with the mediocre attendance as well.

I believe they do pay attention to fans, but a respectful email adds more value than anonymous posts on a message board. Some posts on message boards and X are not from our fans but those that enjoy stirring a pot.

I have said things out loud. Respectfully I think and cognizant of my role being a fan and not a collegiate athletics expert.

But fan is short for fanatic right? If a fan does not care who else will?

Fortune favors the brave.

I think the Tulsa fan base though small, is that probably more well equipped to advise on a path to success than many other fanbases. A healthy portion of folks on an OU or OSU message board never went to the University. Of those that did, fewer still were intimately involved with the athletics program.

On this board I would be willing to bet that a healthy proportion of us were inside or closely around the athletics department. Another healthy portion are donors or fans who have been around since Jesus was a pup and could probably teach classes on what worked and what didn’t work historically.

Of course we frequently disagree on perspective, but when we do occasionally reach relative consensus I think that should carry a bit of weight.

always see lots of OU and OSU hat at our games.

Temple fires their HC after a win. Playing ECU close shouldn’t be a reason to keep KW another season

I hate to keep harping on this but he will be here regardless of anyones feelings. He is on year 2 of a 5 year contract that pays him about 2 Mil a year. Temple is a Public University graduating almost 9,000 a year and Tulsa is a Private University graduating about 3500 a year. Temple gets funded by the state and is in an area that can get donors a lot larger than Tulsa. So unless you got a side piece that wants to pony up about 5 million in cash to fire this guy, then you need hop on the train for at least one more year.

If we bring Wilson back for another season I will

How do we know he's making 2M per year? I doubt if anyone besides TU, Wilson and his accountant know the real figure. If it is 2M, then I'm really shaking my head over such dumbassery.

I thought I read he was making $1.6/yr
Tulsa needs to think outside the box and be the first university to offer an incentive based pay structure.
Your salary is contingent on how many wins you get each season. Why should it be any different than a commission-based job?

To me the big question is whether 5 -7 might save him.

It would be an improved record. I would normally say yes. But there seem to be team morale issues and PR issues.

3-9 or 4-8 and I would bet he is gone.

Kevin Wilson’s Salary and Contract in 2024

The contract is somewhat straightforward, as he’s paid $1.9 million, a $500,000 increase from his salary as the offensive coordinator of the Ohio State Buckeyes and more than he made in all but one of his six years as the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.

What Is Kevin Wilson’s Buyout?

Unfortunately, Tulsa has kept a tight lid on Wilson’s exact contract details. We can make a strong educated guess as to the approximate amount of money the Golden Hurricane would owe Wilson if he’s ultimately fired.

His initial salary was reported as $1.9 million and potentially renegotiated periodically. The industry norm for prematurely fired coaches is typically around 50-75% of their remaining base salary. That would make his buyout between $3.8 and $5.7 million if he were fired prior to the end of the 2024 season.

If he were fired after the year, that buyout number would drop to between $2.85 and $4.275 million in the next year. If the Golden Hurricane were to fire him after next season, that buyout would be between $1.9 and $2.7 million.

What someone makes, what is guaranteed, what is reported as base and incentives, and what it takes to buy out/terminate can all be very very different.

So his contract is for 1.9 mil. that translates to 2 mil as I stated earlier. lol. I am sure there is some incentives and some restructuring stuff in there but it is what it is. The school wanted to try to by a bigger name coach and just like the Minimum wage keep going up in stupid amounts so does how much it cost to buy a coach.

So again unless someone has a sugar momma or sugar daddy (I am not judging) that will pony up 5 mil, then this dude will be here next year.

Now if next year goes south as well, then I expect that buyout to be significantly lower and then they make the change. If it is true though that the school wanted the academics and the conduct cleaned up as the first priority, then he will definately be here next year.

Gee, I bet nobody's ever thought of that !

Let's see, I would think the field you are in can't compete if schools make their salary almost fully contingent based, or other schools would be doing so. You are showing your ignorance with this comment.
