Fire him TOMORROW!

I find people thinking of hiring GJ amusing. We would have to offer him a massive raise that no one else is offering, including Texas St is offering. That won't happen. Somebody will offer him at least 2 million. I think Texas St would offer that. A couple of hundred thousand higher offer by us with no nil, after our 'courtesy interview' is not going to bring him here. i don't think he would come with no nil, even if we were a mil over every other offer he had. But that's just my opinion.
I can agree with this. GJ is making a base of $1M and like I have said, is a Texas guy. The lack of NIL is eventually going to bite TU in the ass big time one day. We can only play the academics card for so long. I’m not saying lowering the academic standards at all, but relying on that as the main selling point for $$ incentive won’t last long in my opinion.

Now, Marion is making a base of $383k. Offer him $1M and he comes. Considering we are (allegedly) paying Wilson $1.9M, I don’t see that as a stretch. TU just has to get in on him before a P4 team that is already looking for a new OC grabs him……if he is who the AD, etc. are wanting.

I expect Wilson to be gone by the weekend and my guess is our AD has already been using his short list. Honestly, I would rather have Marion over GJ at this point

I personally think we need to offer him more than $1M and quickly. Others will come around with those kinds of offers.

I think if we could have signed G.J. in 2022 we would have. If Kinne thought coming back here would give him the best shot at winning and moving up the ranks he would most likely be here now. TU has to improve its commitment before we can expect a quality hire. We're heading in that direction, albeit slowly. I think Justin Moore has more experience in dealing in the clusterf**k that is today's college athletics.

Let's face it, G.J.'s doing pretty well in San Marcos but he's not exactly setting the world on fire.

That makes sense. His termination is fait accompli at this point and the AD is waiting until he's selected a better candidate before announcing anything. I can live with that

I’ve heard from multiple people in the alumni world that are way more active than I am that GJ was the top candidate in 2022 but one donor or admin, the only piece that differs in the story, was hell bent on Wilson.

GJ has not hurt himself but he has not helped himself either by the performance this year at TSU. Next year and particularly the year after will determine his fate as an up and comer for a bigger name (not necessarily better) program.

That's sad to hear. Sometimes the biggest bankroll doesn't buy the best choice. I hope it wasn't an administrator.

I'll admit to being enthusiastic about the hire, even though G.J. was my choice. But he's not delivering. In fact, the program is regressing.

Let's cool it on the discussion about donors and admin. Certainly no reason to be blasting unnamed folks working for or donating to the University, whether some know who is actually being alluded to or not. I just don't think this is a good path to be going down, especially on an open forum.

With all his flaws, he deserves that. He would obviously make a great color guy on major broadcasts for his retirement career.
Stitt will appoint him to the US Senate after Markwayne joins the Trump administration. Better than appointing himself. ;)

Oh god, keep him out of politics. We've seen what that does for Tuberville, H Walker, and even Rader.
Let’s just keep out of politics on here, period. Despite what some on here think, TU fans have a diverse range of political opinions.

If you look at the string of coaches with 19 seasons or more and their winning percentages, it’s absurd. Every major name in college football for the last 50 years. Switzer, Osborne, Bowden, Bryant and then Gundy right there among them.

I think I’ve mentioned several times on here that when he does the coaches cam on ESPN, he not only correctly calls the plays before they happen, he calls the play after that, and the play after that.

OSU is going to have huge remorse when he is gone.

Gundy is under some heat but I believe at the end of the day it will be his decision.

Kills me to say it, but he might be the fourth greatest coach in the history of Oklahoma sports.

I understand that this was done for a laugh, but don't believe that Trump's team would consider Markwayne for anything. However Gundy as a US Senator could be really damn entertaining. Completely unfiltered fun...

Gundy is an extremely smart coach who understands the game and how offense should be called. I think he is starting to hit the wall, especially with all the NIL and free agency stuff, sort of like Saban felt last year, and what we saw with Tony Bennett at UVA basketball this season. These old school coaches who only had to navigate recruiting and coaching are not really adjusting well to the new climate surrounding college athletics.

I have a bad feeling is being competitive tonight just kept him around another week.

Lots of vocal fans wanting him gone as they left the stadium tonight.

Are you guys that are bit..ing on the message board contacting Justin and Carson? If not quit wasting your time posting endless rants. The AD and administration need to understand the impact losing has on the health of not only athletics (football drives the financial bus for everything else) but also the university. General donations and enrollment will suffer if this doesn’t get fixed. While certain TU “officials” may lurk here occasionally the emails, phone calls and potential lack of continued donations/season tickets is what will get their attention. My interactions with the officials indicates that there are some complaints but not that many!

Seems kind of foolish if TU doesn’t have an athletic department person monitoring this forum regularly as it is a one stop shop to see opinions of some of TU’s my diehard fans, alumni, and supporters. So I’m hoping they check here more than occasionally.

I also think it’s fair for folks to post rants here if they want to - it’s a message board.

But I also agree that sending an email to Justin and Brad to voice opinions about the current situation is a good idea. The more they see/hear it, the better. However, with how active Brad is on Twitter, I’m sure he’s well aware of the general feelings of the TU faithful.

Wilson has alienated damn near everyone by being a major asshole in his short time here. So one doesn’t really have to look far to find valid criticisms of the football program and Wilson himself.

People bit.. on message boards even when things are going well. People will continue doing that in bad times, like now, too. My point in the first comment is if you are only posting alone it has much less impact. If you are TU donor or supporter and want a change let the TU officials know.

You’d be surprised who reads this board and even occasionally posts on it. Community elected leaders, current and former administrators, current and former trustees, senior university staff and volunteers, boosters from $1 to over $1 million, current and former coaches, former players, even at least a couple of faculty with varying motivations and support for athletics. Most of them think we are all mentally ill fools.

The University is well aware of who most of us are and our views. Keep the communication classy and concise and occasional and you’ll be surprised at the supportive feedback you’ll get beyond normal lip service.

The University posts videos and podcasts here. They have had in the past paid monitors who regularly briefed administrators and I assume still do. If so, they have a tedious job I appreciate.

Flooding an email account or voice mail box won’t be productive. Have two dozen of your close friends send you emails you have to respond to the first thing on a Monday morning, see how long that takes you, how much time you have left in the day, and whether you are temporarily still as fond of them as you were on Saturday.

Also, be prepared to listen as well as speak. TU generally shares your goals, but not all of TU’s goals for the athletic department are going to be the same as yours. Do your best to understand the exchange of information and respect the differences in direction desired. The differences are often very subtle nuance but important.

Especially those goals whose aspirations are not resource based. The school really is concerned about things other than winning or what something costs, or keeping a hundred or so people employed. Things that were important long before money took over the sport.

Things like making sure the program is sustainable so kids with nothing have a chance to get an education. The most insulting thing is the discussion about dropping football or lowering divisions. That implies that TU would be willing to compromise its century old commitment to thousands of future students with few or no opportunities to be educated elsewhere. To do that to win a few games for a few years until the money ran out or save a little in the grand scheme of things is the height of foolishness. Dont be a fool and bring that up.

TU has never been OU, who has millions of back seat drivers. Demands or commands will be as welcome as listening to a 5 year old in your backseat demand McDonald’s instead of Chik-fil-A when you are already blocked in waiting in the drive through. Threats of pulling donations will be met with the same level of frustration but professional response.

Be nice. Be supportive. Listen.

Communicate a desire that those you aren’t able to contact directly are held accountable. Your message will get through, as many on here can testify from telephone calls and email exchanges with senior administrators.

I love TU sports, in part, because of its small community.

TU might be the only program in the nation where an average fan with no donor history can have an ongoing personal relationship with the athletic department personnel and even some coaches. Think twice before you abuse that privilege because it reflects on all of us.

Short version. Don't be stupid or disrespectful.

My added comments. Critical is different than disrespectful. Honest is different than disrespectful.

I have been thinking about what to convey to the AD. Somehow or another it will involve having no confidence in Wilson's ability to improve on field results, the personal irrelevance of a tailgate to me in absence of a good on field product, and my resolve to drop my long held season tickets if Wilson returns.

I think that's all respectful and honest. It might even represent the sentiment of a few other people.

I like your reasoning Doc, but one thing I just can’t do is drop my tickets. Kevin Wilson is insignificant in my opinion and I certainly wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of being the one to finally run me out of this place.

There are plenty of ways to express dissatisfaction but not showing up isn’t one of them.

Sure. I am not saying anyone else should do that.

But I 100% intend to do it if he returns. So it is just me being honest. I suspect my statement represents a segment of fans but speak for myself.

Everyone should be true to themselves.
