This one is from the SMU Rivals site...
1. Temple (3-0, 1-0). Another win, this time 25-23 victory over UMass, solidifies the Temple Owls as one of the best teams in the AAC. On Saturday, quarterback PJ Walker threw for nearly 400 yards, yet he still struggled to take care of the ball as he also tossed two interceptions. The defense was tough against the run as it contained UMass running back Sekai Lindsay to just 35 yards on 12 carriers. Next week the Owls travel to Charlotte to play the 49ers in a non-conference match up.
2. Memphis (3-0, 0-0). Bowling Green did everything they could to give their fans a win for their home opener against Memphis. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Tiger's quarterback Paxton Lynch can really throw a football. Lynch threw for 386 yards along with three touchdowns as the Tigers scored 10 points in the fourth to steal a 44-41 win. Memphis will play Cincinnati for a very impactful AAC game on Thursday night.
3. Houston (2-0, 0-0). BYE WEEK.
4. Cincinnati (2-1, 0-1). The Bearcats won a shootout 37-33 against Miami of Ohio in a game that featured just under 1000 yards of offense. Starting quarterback Gunner Kiel was knocked out of the game after suffering from concussion like symptoms, which allowed freshman backup Hayden Moore to take the field. Moore turned the ball over four times in the fourth quarter, yet he was still able to guide the offense on the game winning drive featuring a one yard touchdown run with 1:13 remaining. If Kiel isn't healthy by Thursday, expect the Bearcats to be in trouble as the offense will suffer and the defense has struggled to be consistent this year.
5. Navy (2-0, 1-0). Navy came off of its bye week very strong as they ran over and through the ECU defense. 415 total yards on the ground with 142 of them coming from quarterback Keenan Reynolds, the Midshipmen got up 28-14 at the half and never looked back as they came away with a 45-21 win. Reynolds also had five touchdowns on the ground, and is looking to continue his running success when Navy travels to Connecticut to take on the Huskies.
6. Tulsa (2-1, 0-0). The defense seemed to have no answer for Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield on Saturday. The Sooner torched the Golden Hurricane defense for 487 yards and four touchdowns, but the biggest problem they had was the fact that they could not wrap Mayfield up. Several times the defense had swarmed around him, yet he found a way to escape allowing the coverage in the secondary to break down. Dane Evans seemed to match Mayfield throwing the ball, but it just wasn't enough as Tulsa fell 52-28.
7. SMU (1-2, 0-0). For the second time in three weeks, the Mustangs took on a top-five football team, and for the second time in three weeks, they did better than expected. What a difference a year makes as on Saturday night, SMU put up 37 points on a TCU defense that looked like it was struggling to keep up. Matt Davis was again the catalyst for SMU as he finished with 392 total yards and added three touchdowns as well. Courtland Sutton had a huge game with four receptions for 115 yards and a score, and has clearly been established as the big play receiver that the Mustangs have needed for years. SMU lost again, but there is hope to be had in Highland Park as they have gotten the most difficult part of their schedule out of the way. Next week they play James Madison at Ford Stadium and look to get back on track with a win.
8. USF (1-2, 0-0). For the second week in a row, the Bulls went into halftime in a game which they had every capability to win. Yes Maryland was the better team, but much like what happened against the Seminoles last week, USF came out flat in the second half of a game they needed to win. The Bulls have a bye next week.
9. East Carolina (1-2, 0-1). Going into the season, ECU expected to lean heavily on its defense. Against Navy however, the Midshipmen ran the ball 75 times for a total of 415 yards on their way to defeating the Pirates 45-21. ECU did nothing to correct their run defense and this one goes down as a very bad loss for a team that could have really used a win.
10. Connecticut (2-1, 0-0). In an ugly game against number-22 Missouri Tigers, the Huskies were able to hold the home team to just nine points. Connecticut eventually lost the game 9-6 on a last minute interception thrown by backup quarterback Tim Boyle but they showed a lot of fight in the defeat. Bryant Shirreffs again played like he was asked to, managing the game comfortably from the pocket. This was a tough loss that in all honesty the Huskies could have stolen away from Missouri and used as their signature win for the year.
11. Tulane (1-2, 0-0). A 38-7 victory over Maine is exactly what this Tulane team needed, especially after getting ripped part by Georgia Tech last week. The offense had some big explosive plays while the defense created turnovers by forcing Maine quarterback Dan Collins into two interceptions. Tanner Lee played much better finishing with a 77.8 QBR while completing 16 of 27 pass attempts.
12. UCF (0-3, 0-0). The Knights fall to 0-3 on the season after being shocked by a 55 yard field goal that would end up being the go ahead score for the Furman Paladins. UCF's offense could not move the ball and the defense gave up plays when it mattered, the team as a whole just looked ugly. Hopefully the coaches can game plan for next week as the Knights take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
