They have on display an actual MOAB, although I would argue that TU football is the mother of all bombs.

Opening round NCAA games return to Tulsa in 2028. OSU will serve as the host school.

Army opens as an 11-point favorite. ESPN FPI gives Army a 76.9% chance of winning.

In our preseason preview article, we had Army losing this game to Temple (we also had Army at 4-0 at this point in the season). Traditionally, this has been a tough week for the Black Knights. In 2021, Army rolled into Ball State on about the same Saturday with a similar 4-0 record. Christian Anderson was hurt and Tyhier Tyler got the start. Army gave up a couple kick returns for touchdowns, turned the ball over multiple times and found themselves in an insurmountable 21-0 hole at the end of the first quarter. Despite Army dominating the rest of the game 16-7, it wasn’t enough, and the Black Knights had suffered their first defeat of the season.

A few years ago, Army went down to Wake Forest, got destroyed and Tyrell Robinson had his first of multiple knee injuries. Last year this weekend, Army was shut out by Troy. Road games in early October have not been kind to Army the past few seasons. Army has mid-term exams, a huge deal and a big distraction. Injuries are mounting. Neither starting Safety finished the Temple game. That could be a problem against a passing offense like Tulsa. They did give up two-three explosives against Temple.

Tulsa has a really strong run defense as pointed out above. If Army turns it over once or twice and doesn’t create any turnovers, this could certainly be a disappointing first loss of the season.
Not so fast, my friends. We truly believe the 2024 version of the Black Knights is different. I would be very surprised if Bryson Daily doesn’t line up under Center and at the end of the day, that may be the most important factor to determining the outcome of this game. Daily is an absolute force this season. I don’t believe Tulsa will have an answer for the Army offense. They haven’t played Navy so it will be their first time seeing any version of the option in 2024. That in itself will cause problems. Army’s plethora of weapons in the offensive backfield and the dominance of the MOB will be too much for the first team on Army’s AAC slate not named the Owls.

If I’m USSF sporting director there is only 1 candidate to replace Berhalter. Fernando Torres. He just won a championship with atleti youth team & only weeks ago promoted to coach Atlético de Madrid B team. He seems to be Simeone’s successor, but Simeone isn’t going anywhere the next 2 years.

Torres speaks English. His style is based bc it’s championship based. Hang your hat on D, but hustle & play exciting, attacking football (incels, pay attention, this works on & off the field.)

Most importantly, his most qualifying factor: ES UN GOLEADOR! HE IS A GOALER! HE KNITS NET!!!

I believe he’d take the job if offered. I wouldn’t go to anyone else & id tell him I have no search firm not even one consultant. I’d even tell him he can stay coach at Atletico B.

I saw several practices this year, the last one being early this week. I will summarize my observations. In the past I have missed on several players. I thought Josh Earley would develop into a really good player. I couldn't pick out Haggerty as a Freshman of the year though I felt he was the best of the newcomers and actually shot quite well from the three in the summer. They don't call "and ones" in summer scrimmages. I, along with everyone else knew Hall might not live up to the recruiting hype. This season also has its mysteries and you really never know till the bright lights come on who can play. But here goes:

Keaston Willis 6'3" 190 R-Sr. His last full season at La Tech shot 39% from the three and 71% FT along with 3.2 rebounds. Most likely our most dependable three point shooter and the player who may calm the team down. The player you can take fishing and have a great time. Projected starter. All eyes are on his season ending injury from last year.

Matt Reed 6'9" 240 Soph .. Has lost a lot of non- muscular weight and really looks great. He shot 44% FG and 29% from three and 67% FT last year. His post moves and outside shooting look much improved. Bigger question is his post defense. He could shoot 33-35% from the three this year.

Dwon Odom 6'2" 182 Grad- Started 24 games for Georgia State last year with 52% FG but only shot 14 threes all year . 81% FT Don't look for him to put up many threes as he is a pass first no turnover guard with a 2.7/1 assist turnover ratio and 142 assists. 12PPG and 5 reb for Ga St. Strong defensive guard as well. Could start based on his experience of being a full time starter.

Jaye Nash 6'2" 175 4 star Freshman- 13PPG, 7.5 assists 4 reb for his private high school in Memphis. Could be the fastest player on the team and a really tough strong guard. I didn't see a lot of threes go in but he has good form and I expect that will improve. Really great passer and can really take it to the rim. I expect a lot of minutes from Jaye.

Braeden Carrington -G- 6'4" 195 JR Wing- Started 10 games for Big Ten Minnesota last year shooting 34% FG and 22% from three. Shot 33% from three his Freshman year???? Missed a bunch of games both years due to injuries and personal problems. Has a beautiful release on the ball and I think could shoot 35% from three. Similar shooter to Barnes. I like him as a big strong wing. Just some concern for the many injuries.

Jesaiah McWright G 6'4" 176 Shot 34%FG and 34% from the three and often guarded the opponent's best player. It seemed confidence was a problem his Freshman year which rapidly improved as a Soph. So I expect more this year from this hard attacking guard.

Justin Amadi F 6'7" 225 R-JR Sat out last year with lower body injury at James Madison but the year before started 29 games shooting 64% FG, no threes, and 65% FT with 5.4 reb 38 steals and 10 blocks. I have no idea how he will be, but he seems like a Charlie Davis (2000) type player.

Tyshawn Archie- G 6'1" 175 Soph - Has gained weight and strength and was the most exciting PG in a long time for TU and a crowd favorite. Shot 45%FG and 37% from the three. Working on his defense against bigger guards but should continue to improve. Need his 37% from three again this year. May share PG duty with Odom sometimes.

Tyler Behrend- F 6'10" Soph Older than all others due to Navy time and only one year in JUCO. Thin but has nice outside shot but not much inside yet. Needs the year to develop and gain strength.

Isaiah Barnes- G 6'7" 200 JR Wing Has gained weight and strength and is really shooting it well. Shot 44%FG and 32% from the three last year with 3.7 rebounds. Should improve in all areas and need him for rebound help. Projected Starter.

Jared Garcia- F 6'8" 240 SR - Out this summer due to off season surgery. Was a leading rebounder and surprising 3 point shooter last year . Dominated a few games last year and if that improves, could be an all-conference selection this season. Projected starter.

Ian Smikle- F 6'9" 250 Freshman- A great early catch for Konkol. One of the best Freshman Bigs in a while. No outside shot but great motor and working on inside moves and rebounding. A real surprise and I am looking forward to a lot of PT for Ian.

Cal Conroy, Ari Seals , and Ben Radford are the glue that hold the practices together. Without complaining, they go through the same tough practices knowing their playing time is limited. I'm always glad to hear the crowd cheer when they are inserted in the games.

Others have seen more practices than me so I welcome any disagreements, additions, or agreements on my thoughts. My thoughts could be completely different in November. Just fun to discuss.

Not sure how many yet but should have more info as the weekend nears. UTEP commit Maddox Huber has already confirmed he will be in town for an official. He was being recruited by Ryan Stanchek, who left TU to be OL coach at UTEP. He attended a TU camp in June and is now being recruited by OL Coach Greg Frey.

"I also like Coach Frey and his way of coaching," Huber said earlier today.

Jaquise Martin and Donnell Gee may be visiting as well.

I reminded him that I told him in his home when I was recruiting him that I could drop dead tomorrow and to pick Kentucky not because of me but because someday that might be where you want to live and raise a family,” the former UK coach said. “Don’t pick Kentucky for me. I told every player that.

“The two best players in the history of Tulsa basketball wanted to follow me to Georgia. One was our leading scorer, the other was the leading rebounder but I left them there. At Georgia kids wanted to follow me to Kentucky but I told them to stay.

“I’ve got a lot of stories and memories like that and now I just have to figure out how to get them in some kind of order to make it fun for fans to read.”

I'm trying to figure out what Tubby is talking about here. Obviously, "our leading scorer" was Shea Seals, who averaged 18.8 points to lead the team in Tubby's final TU season (1994-95). However, Shea was also the leading rebounder at 6.9 per game. The next two leading rebounders on that team were Kwanza Johnson and JR Rollo -- two good players, but not best in TU history.

The only thing that makes sense is that he is talking about Michael Ruffin, who was a freshman in 1995-96 under Steve Robinson. Tubby must be implying that Ruffin wanted to get out of his LOI at Tulsa and go to Georgia. I'm having a hard time remembering if Ruffin had already signed before Tubby left.

Tennessee will add a 10% talent fee to all tickets starting in 2025 to pay its athletes. Others will follow. It will be interesting to see Moore's approach to NIL. I suspect it will be 180 from Dickson.
