anybody have this

My now wife and I were in MA for a wedding shower my family was throwing for us when this game was happening. And we were just watching the ticker at the bottom of the ESPN crawl for score updates (no really radio or internet streaming back then). And then watched the Sportscenter highlights because we were ranked and they always show the highlights of the ranked teams. If we hadn't been in MA, there's a high probability we would have been in Moody for the game and doing the "Jeeeerrrrryl" chant.

Settle down, Brenda. The players deserved to get paid then and deserve to get paid now. This isn't their fault and it's hard to support a system that prevents the workers from negotiating their pay, that's a little too socialist for me. The problem is that college sports are a pro league with none of the restrictions that every other pro league has. This will get resolved, otherwise the system will fall apart. Now, it's likely to get resolved in a way that we as fans of TU don't like, at least in the short run, but the system will mature, and if we're on the outside, that's an unfortunate reflection of decisions TU and the city and state have made over the years, but the market speaks and we can't blame it.
Ok, Karen. They were getting paid before, way more than any other student on campus. Do you think education is free? Do you think scholarships are a conspiracy theory? What do you think an athletic scholarship is? It's an agreement that you come to our school to play sports and in return we pay you back with a free education, room and board, the best doctors and nutritionists, etc. They were getting paid more than enough.

TU Alumni Association

Wasn’t sure where to post it but the amount of mail my Sophomore receives from TU is beyond impressive. Easily 5x what he receives from any other schools.
My son got a lot from TU as well early on. They're trying to keep the brightest OK kids here because a whole lot of them want the hell out of dodge. Hell, they had my son's acceptance letter before he ever officially applied.

Now the amount he got from schools in his junior year after he had taken the PSAT Spring of SO year was absolutely insane. I mean U of Chicago was sending postcards, letters, stickers, pennants on an almost daily basis (not kidding or exaggerating). Problem with U of Chicago...no engineering school.

As for the Alumni dust up or whatever you all decided to call it...is it related to the Director of the AA leaving or was the reconfiguration the reason she left. She had been there forever.

World Cup

Lack of planning and investment by local soccer community.

Too much emphasis on flying Johnny and Tiffany to Vegas, Dallas, and Madrid for travel soccer.

No emphasis on spending that money on facilities that will help Johnny develop as much or more and be there for the kids that follow him.

Tulsa has nothing even remotely close to what would be required to host this event. Indeed many USL2 programs do not.

The list of requirements is pretty exhausting and ridiculous in detail down to measured specifications and minimum standards on everything … down to lawn tools and toilet seats.

The first problem is two international quality pitches that meet telephone book long turf standards, are adjacent, have international television quality lighting, and are within a secured perimeter that meets restrictions both in term of fence height and materials, but also is not see through and meets ingress and egress restrictions. Then you need adjacent training pitches with lower but still high turf standards. Professional lockerroom facilities with wifi capable of reaching the entire complex at 1000mbps. Yada yada.

And … assuming you have such facilities, and only pro clubs and a few colleges will, you can’t use them for thirty days leading up to their occupancy. In the middle of their season.

I would note that several of our confeeence members met the standards at their facilities and were approved including FAU and UNT. Mac isn’t joking around when he says our facilities need significant upgrades to be competitive in conference/recruiting.

OU put in a bid in addition to OKC.
I was thinking TU might because the playing field at TU is the best in the state and it's not close. OU and OSU's playing surfaces are nice but don't quite rise to the level. TU's training pitch behind Bama is also a pretty high quality considering it was sort of an afterthought and was only put there because TU was required to put some flood control in place while developing the west side of Delaware. I've refereed a couple games on that pitch and it is easily one of the top 5 grass pitches in the state. But as you state, that pitch has no security around it, no fencing, and access to facilities is non-existent unless they open up the Case Center and perhaps turn the entirety of the Case Center into a locker room/lounge for the month. And the WiFi at TU is great in buildings but not great on the west side unless you're in a building. Outdoor connectivity even on the primary campus east of Delaware is spotty at best. BUT, the internet thing could easily be worked out as TU (or any place that hosts) could set up a private network just for the team for that month).

The crazy thing is, ORU might have a better set up but it would entail closing their fitness center for the month. There are training rooms in the fitness facility, 2 fields side by side, it's gate controlled access and they could easily put the green landscape tarps on each of the fences (think what Southern Hills does any time it hosts a major). They've also got the pool and hot tub/ice tub areas up there. With ORU, the team could be housed at DoubleTree Warren Place. At TU, you're likely looking at them being at the Hyatt or Doubletree downtown (or heck, even the Ambassador and using every room).

I know it's all a pipe dream as I haven't read the phone book length list of requirements but I can't imagine that every check list item is even achievable here with current facilities. Only change would be FC Tulsa developing a stadium/training field plan sort of like Toyota in Dallas on a smaller scale with plans to bid for the NCAA College Cup and hosting USL games or even looking towards a USL 1st Division bid. It would also fit in with their plans for the youth academy, some giant high level tournaments, etc. as TSC's days of hosting that premier event in Tulsa are about the go away.

TU could do that for the primary track and soccer complex.

How can these universities keep wanting this mess? It is killing fans.
I am, unfortunately, not sure about this part. The NCAA MBB tournament had the highest viewership since 2017. I personally can't understand watching a team of mercenaries at a school with no history but lots of $$ to buy players, and I watched none except when tethered to the treadmill at the gym, but there are a lot of things that people do for entertainment that I don't understand (Joe Rogan, looking at you). If the product sells, it sells. Hopefully it won't.

All those 5 years ago screaming to pay the players. I want to slap every single one of you! I hated this from the get go - they were getting paid. They had food stipends, they had free nutritionalists, they had $200,000k education for free, they had their lodging for free. They were already getting PAID!!!!!! but soooo many of the fans including a lot on this board were fighting for them to get paid. I BLAME all of you who wanted NIL!!!!!! You did this to sports! Y'all suck!

Quaydarius Davis

So did he play for Deion on Jackson State? He has transferred a couple of times and was at Southern most recently. Because the story is on the TU board I was worried he might be transferring to TU. Apparently he was "just" stalking an ex-girlfriend who lives in Tulsa now. The incident is breaking and entering and strangulation/domestic violence. Once story listed him as a "former NFL prospect".

The money has gotten so out of control, and TV is driving the whole thing. Twenty-five years ago, Tulsa made a huge, huge deal to raise $ 1 million to keep Bill Self and offer him a contract to stay.

Fourteen years later, little old Tulsa paid $ 1.7 million to get gold chain-wearing slanging, Rolex-wearing Frank Haith to walk off his private jet from Missouri and lead us to the promised land.

That Bill Self offer was after years of NCAA tournaments and an Elite-Eight year. Frank was after one NCAA tournament trip in 12 years.

It's a little crazy to put into perspective how times change.

That would result in the NCAA ceasing to be a player in major college football. Their end is near anyway. Coordinating a lockout would only serve to speed up the process.
Everyone keeps talking about the NCAA sucking but what is the alternative, a more minor super league?. What would make it a better entity? They get more money? You still have the crazy transfer issues. They would have to be controlling, too, and act like a minor league professional environment, right?

Why would the university D1 football schools locking out players kill the NCAA? That is just one sport in one portion of the school. Well, maybe they have to do all of them and force them into some contracts.

How can these universities keep wanting this mess? It is killing fans.

The coaches don't even want to hold spring games because they are scared of losing their players. It is too funny. It's as if these people can't watch tape or something? OU had like 5k fans at their spring "combine." Who wants to watch that?

They can't act like this isn't professional athletics now because it is. These players don't like criticism, but they are asking for millions, and the universities are essentially demanding "donations" from fans to keep their seats.

So those donations are paying these players who are unloyal, suck and don't work and then don't want criticism and then don't want to act like they aren't professional athletes. The whole thing is a joke.

Who's responsible for NIL, coach or AD?

Thought this was interesting. The new coach at my local school has raised more NIL in a few weeks than the old coach in a year, he views filling the NIL coffers as his job. The Niko guy was at Colorado State before this and was successful at that level. Probably a big part of why they hired him. Same fundraising by the staff is going on in football. I wonder how good our coaches are at this?

"Niko and his staff have been incredibly active in fundraising since the moment they arrived,” Burns said. “There hasn’t been one day when they haven’t engaged in some fundraising activity. That’s absolutely encouraging. But more than that, they’re willing to embrace the reality of college sports right now.” "
