Youth soccer club

BASC used to be one of the top soccer clubs in the city. It gets the most help with fields of any club in the city. But it was never really a premier club per se. It was just a gaggle of teams. I always thought of it more as a gaggle of teams under an umbrella.

They would love to be seen as the most legitimate. Strangely, some people think they are already superstars. Ocassionally, I run into people who say, "My daughter or my daughter's friend plays for BA Express, the best club in the city and state. " I am not even joking. I stare at them and say, "Wow, that is cool."

This is the biggest thing that has ever happened to BA soccer, although the people who operate the 6,100-person BA high school will probably argue about the last high school state championship.

It amazes me that some people pop off stories about BASC fans without them being good. I can't imagine what would happen if they genuinely had good teams.

God, I hate going to Indian Springs. That terrible convenience store has been there since the early '90s. The coffee is still horrific. The service is still awful, and it is still grimy as hell when you walk in.....At least they took out the dirty porno mags. Most positively, the last few times, the cashier didn't smell like an arab sewer and ass-sweat crossed with cologne.

Looks like Greenwood found a training and playing complex

Looks like this might not be as awesome as it seems. We'll have to see how it plays out.

So you don’t like Indian Springs because of the seedy convenience store on the corner? I’ve been to Indian Springs well over 100x and I’ve never stepped foot in that store for the reasons you’ve stated. Question….why go in there? There are plenty of other stores on your way there and several within a two mile radius. Seems like a weird reason to hate a very nice complex because you hate a convenience store you don’t have to go in. 🤷‍♂️

If this isn’t being done for field access then I’m at a loss as to why do it.

I was told that the new board for BASC is not happy about this deal because it happened with the previous, out going board and messed up (maybe?) some things with another local club.

Interesting

I hear Greenwood might have burnt a bridge with Scheels so they might need this long term......

Have you heard anything regarding Scheels and their fields. With TSC all but losing their girls side, I wouldn’t think they would be able to pay what they did this last year. WSA seems dead set on keeping training and games at their current location. Doesn’t Scheels need a new tenant?

No clue on that.

Greenwood really only has two options for MLS Next quality fields imo….Scheels and Indian Springs. Burning a bridge to either of those complexes would not be a smart business move.

Idk how you would burn a bridge unless the check just didn’t clear. It seems like greenwood is too high profile to do that right now.

Oh….They could have reached a verbal agreement with Scheels or made certain promises then when the Indian Springs deal came about backed out of said promises. To be clear…I have no information

It is a nice complex with nothing around it. Mohawk is similar, with even less around it. However, people don't give credit for how close the Mcdonald's, Popeye's, and QT are on Pine and Peoria. The Starbucks at 121st and Regal Warren is possibly the slowest in America.

My wife and I do everything in our power not to hit that place. I hadn't been there in 25 years until about 2 years ago. Those were my observations. I have been there three times: two for coffee and once for badly needed gas. Each time afterwards, I had to provide the FBI counterterrorism team with depositions and pray for forgiveness from the MAGA church preachers.

Remember, Law, this is a message board. I come to it for love, hate, rage, trolling, information, and amusement. It's a wild ride. It's like a Donald Trump Twitter ketamine binge.

Heard it’s gonna cost greenwood 250k a year to work out of Indian Spings…

So a milder version Panicstricken?

I think it’s great what JM and Nsien have brought to the Tulsa market. I don’t like the Greenwood name when you don’t office, practice or play in the Greenwood district. A very small percentage are even African American. That doesn’t take away from the opportunity they are offering kids in this area. JM can’t coach every team and the coaching roster isn’t stellar outside of JM. Vuko is a bomb ready to explode and would leave in a second if he could ever get a pro job. Should be interesting to watch.

Yes as it becomes bigger. It is a much bigger prospect. It isn't an attractive feature to be raging on about missed calls for five minutes in games in a u10 game and get booked. It doesn't help your team. Even if the call was terrible (likely it was), your behaviour was decidedly terrible in response.

Did people get trotted out of facilities in Norman?

I am not sure people give enough credit for how hard it is to maintain and run a big organization with so many egos and personalities involved. Parents, children, coaches, Assignors, referees and other clubs. That is not easy. Yes referees have egos.

In the minimal coaching, I have done I have learned certain coaches are hilarious and freakin awesome. Others are super inflexible, Dbags.

WSA NL Townhall was last night.

Looks like trainings will be at Case 2 nights a week and at an "off site" location in south tulsa area 1 night a week. Rumor is Holland Hall.

They basically said "Come to the open trainings if your kid wants to play NL, RL Tx, or RL Frontier. Tell the coaches if there's a team you don't want to be on / won't play on, ex. RL Frontier. The coaches will give you feedback about their ideas for your players. Players will know their placements by May 12."

RL Tx and NL travel together. Some RL players may be called up for more exposure. The costs for NL are pretty similar to TSC's costs, the structure is just different (IMO worse).

No mention of where games will be played just yet, but I'd guess Holland Hall as well.

Apparently there were about 8-12 TSC 2012 parents there.

Coaches don’t act a fool in MLS Next or they aren’t coaches on that platform for long. MLS Next don’t play because they don’t have to.

I did learn that MLS Next likes its member clubs to enter into partnerships with rec or rec plus clubs as an outreach program in the community. Assume this played part of the BA partnership….and the fields :)

Have you heard anything from TSC? My friends on the 2010 team haven’t heard a word. Maybe they’re concentrating on keeping the lower level teams together ?

I haven’t. We aren’t there anymore though. My friends that are still there have said they haven’t heard anything yet.

It would be very scary for lots or white suburban folk capable of paying for MLS Next teams to send their kids to practice in Greenwood. You know it. I know it. I don't where you could even build a facility too. Near OK state Tulsa? Not enough flat area.

Just saying...

Helps to have the head coach of Holland Hall as the director.

If they are truly getting called up and played, that is really good, IMO. I like it when they do that with the Academy kids. I know some of them get really excited about it. I know it is a different age. A couple of kids need to be moved around in my son's age group. It will happen at the end of the year, which is close, but it still helps to have them called up for training and asked to play.

Case 2 nights a week. Dang…tearing up the college fields for a few girls recruiting.

Do you think hurts or helps ORU’s recruiting? If I was a girl, would you want to spend another 4 years at ORU after all that time there. Does it depend if you are a homebody and really, really love Oral Roberts?

Are we talking about the same thing? I’m talking about Case in Sand Springs.

Luckily for us, we’re already on the south side of Tulsa near the turnpike, so we can hit the gilcrease expy pretty easily.
Seems like Case is 30 minutes from just about everywhere. It’s not an awful drive. People in Tulsa are spoiled

Sometimes your post read like a Dr.Seuss book, but sometimes your comments are just ignorant. Suburban white folks would be just fine if there was a training facility in or around Greenwood.

Agree. That said, I would expect Greenwood rosters to have a large contingent of Hispanic boys

I am guessing you are a Trump voter and don't like said comment.

I live in White Suburbia and went to school in the inner city. People say that kind of dumb, ignorant stuff all the time. Reality is reality. People on my BA team said Cherry Street was the inner city when I was growing up. It was hard not to fall over laughing. I had coworkers here in Tulsa who thought that mid-town was the ghetto. She lived in Claremore, and their husband was a member of the TPD and never wanted her in Tulsa. This isn't a joke.

Tulsa has an ugly history and still has ugly people. Many suburban people are scared of Tulsa. That is reality bruh.

I’m not from Tulsa.

I was always told to stay way from “north Tulsa”.

I always thought north Tulsa was like, anything beyond 71st street.

Going downtown? Forget about it.

Now I know better lol

Tens of thousands of white suburbanites visit the Greenwood area every year. Baseball, soccer, festivals, etc. Very few people have issues visiting those areas. Now if you were to build it in a nearby high crime area then yes….there would be pushback in going into those areas. Especially after dark. As you say….Tulsa still has some ugly people.

Sure, there is no room for the amount of fields needed in the true Greenwood. It would have to be north of there.

So we are not in disagreement.
