I’ve heard that TSC ECNL boys will be moved over to FC Tulsa soon. I’m not sure how that works honestly, but I’m assuming a merger of the clubs.
I’m also expecting TSC to announce GA. Not sure what the holdup is there. Maybe trying to find a travel partner. Dallas Surf just announce the move to GA from ECRL-North Texas Regional League. Which illustrates the level of teams playing in the regional GA league
They will try to sell it for sure. It’s just a bad product in this part of the country.
TSC getting GA makes no sense, I can’t see a world where their top NL players stay and they will for sure lose RL on the boys side now. As it stands right now WSA has the best RL product on this side of the state playing in the Texas league.

On the camps, if your daughter has an idea of where she might want to go to school or what she wants to study, find camps where those coaches will be at. My son was very specific on what he wanted to study and told some smaller NAIA schools he wasn't interested because they didn't have the major he wanted. He ID'd the schools, contacted the coaches and we made a couple visits to those schools and met with the coaches while visiting. He wasn't a D1 prospect so him ID'ing schools was easier. Unfortunately the schools he wanted to attend have ultra selective admissions processes so the coaches don't have much pull.
I don't know how the new roster limits affect this process. Coaches will for sure be more selective and can't just tell every player, there's a roster spot for you as a walk on anymore.

Hate to say this, but: way diff feel than TSC. The difference in coaching experience was incredibly apparent. That’s not a knock to our other coach, who my daughter really liked. It was just a different feel.

My daughter is a 2011 so she honestly has no idea what she wants to study. Only thing she knows, and this may change, is that she wants to play D1 soccer.
In this case, yes.
The coach asked for speed and improvement while heaping praise on the girls for giving it. “Faster.” “You have to get a better touch. Go again.”
It really makes me optimistic.

I personally think the new teams coming into NL need that experienced coach that sets the tone. Someone that’s been at that level for a bit, or higher, and will teach them how to compete.

Preston is a really good coach. I did a game with one of his teams during their showcase a few weeks back and I gave a PK against them for impeding with contact. A bit weak but the defender came over and just crushed the attacker and they were 5-6 yards from the ball...so there was no attempt to play or no reasonable effort to play the ball. She also caught the attacker with a high elbow to the chin when she came through her. He was upset about the call and when I came over and explained what I saw, he settled down. But I always pay attention to how the coaches coach their players during games and he seems to be one of the better ones. I've come across coaches who lose their minds and then belittle and degrade players when they make mistakes...completely unconstructive and it does no one any good (Dave Bolding at Owasso, formerly of Bixby is this type of coach). Preston, at least with my limited interactions during his games, seems to understand how to get players to play the way they're coached in practice.
He seemed to be pretty good. Everyone I’ve spoken to has nothing but good things to say about him.
He likes to play that possession / find the next pass style. I like that.
The girls were friendly enough with my kid. She did great in the drills and small sided games. She needs to get used to his personality, which he admitted can make it hard to be around, but other than that it was good.
My general perception has been coaches at TSC weren’t as demanding especially in practice as coaches in other clubs. I experienced very little stern talk from coaches at trainings….play faster, better touch, better movement, better passes, etc… This could be viewed as a positive or negative depending on the player.
She is not. Soccer is a class at Bixby and she wouldn’t be able to meet the required attendance since she trains in Dallas. I have watched every varsity girls game this year. She has lots of friends and ex teammates on that squad. They have a chance to be really good. They’re missing a D1 caliber striker up top but are very solid up and down the lineup.
That d1 caliber striker is a freshmen who plays for OEFC’s 09 NL team is scoring for bixby but those idiots that coach are playing her out of position.
She is getting personal invites and calls to all kinds of ID camps.
Yes. She can play and is a very nice kid. Hated to see her leave TSC. Bixby has a lot of speed across the field.
Assume she’s getting email camp invites addressed to her. No chance colleges are calling her.

I've had club coaches tell my son and his teammates that HS soccer wasn't worth it. The kids playing will tell you differently. There's a different vibe for HS sports, especially around here. The kids play for their teammates in HS, they play for school pride. Clubs are great but on most of those clubs, maybe 2-3 players go to the same school so there is a different camaraderie in that setting.
Part of HS soccer is coaches playing the best kids where they can best fit that group and it happens often enough you've got a kid who was groomed as an outside back at ECNL level soccer no playing the 9 in HS and this happens because in HS, many teams play an over the top type style and need that big, fast, physical kid up there (BA is notorious for this). Jenks plays a low block style and puts their best athletes and best technical players in the back.
Where is Bixby playing the striker? Just from your description, my guess is they have her playing the 10 and sitting back a little bit more to possibly control the ball in the MF and open things up on the outside knowing teams will have to commit add'l defenders to her. Playing her at the 9 means you have to keep possession longer and find a space to get her the ball...just more of a chance to lose possession before she can get a touch. And while she might be playing outside her natural position, it will likely make her a better overall player and more attractive to college coaches that find her versatility a good thing for their rosters considering the new roster limits in the NCAA.
(But yes, I get your point that some HS coaches are buffoons and don't have a clue how to use kids properly)
D1 schools are calling her club coach, which they are allowed to do. And yes … receiving camp invites. But nobody is calling her directly.
My high school coach was considered very good, or maybe he considered himself brilliant. I don't know. He won 4 state titles.
All of us would have said he was average to below average. He was blessed with a tremendous amount of talent relative to everyone else. He did nothing during the games. He prepared nothing for the games. He said nothing meaningful about the games.

And my son was blessed with who I considered to be an excellent HS coach for his 1st 3 years (senior year w/ a new coach was a disaster). In addition to knowing the game and being able to adjust on the fly. Played in the State Championship 3 times over the 8 years he was there, 1 win, 1 PK shootout loss, 1 loss in OT. He also got involved in coaching the FR and SO players and developed a culture the kids wanted to be around...and once you made the team, you were on the team, no need to try out year after year like some other schools and programs. The only way you were no longer on the team is if you did something that made it no longer possible for you to be on the team (not take care of business in the classroom, questionable behavior, and questionable social media presence....his take was that you now represent Union soccer everywhere you go, not just on the field, so you need to represent the program with class no matter where you went). He helped players build confidence in soccer and in themselves, praised kids for classroom success and made sure the rest of the team knew about those successes. He cut some really good players at semester because they couldn't take care of business in the classroom. Now, maybe it was easier for him to be able to focus on culture things like that because Union typically got a lot of really talented players in their pool (they usually get 50-60 new players trying out each season for maybe 12-15 spots.
I will say, I liked how the boys coaches at Bixby approached teaching the game during the JV game yesterday. I think the head varsity coach was also there on the sideline but he let the main JV coach do most of the coaching. He did have a few words for the players on the bench during key moments, one being the F got knocked over in the box and felt a foul should be called and he sat there for 10 seconds while Bixby was playing around the box. Coach was upset at the kid for pouting and essentially taking himself out of the play because he sat in an offside position waiting for the call. (It wasn't a foul at all. Defender stepped in front, took the ball, turned to play out and the kid stumbled in front of the defender and the defender fell over him). Mistakes weren't screamed at players as they were made but usually the coach subbed them off, and took a few moments to coach the player.
I’ve wanted to go check out Owasso’s team this year since my daughter will be a freshman next year but just haven’t found the time. How would they compare to Bixby?
Owasso has exceeded my expectations early on. I think Bixby is more talented but Owasso is playing really well. Let’s discuss tomorrow after the Owasso - Jenks game
They sure did. Safe to say Owasso is the real deal. Owasso - BA will be interesting. Probably the two best teams on this side of the state. Jury is out on Bixby until they play Jenks on the 25th. Owasso coaching staff is doing one hell of a job
Union beat Owasso and Jenks last week in the Jenks tournament (2-0 over Owasso, 1-0 over Jenks). They played full 40 minute halves so actual games.
Union plays BA this coming Friday at Union so that will be a decent indicator of where everyone is. I am fully confident that Union has a starting 10 that can play with anyone in the state. The GK situation is dicey. The kid that looks like he's been getting most of the minutes is a big, strong kid but as my son put it last year "Hands of stone and no instinct".
Jenks is about what I thought they would be. Low block and hope to get the game to OT and PKs. I don't expect the PK record to be anywhere near what they have been the last couple of years. Luke is a decent shot stopper and has exceptional length in goal. He needs to improve his feet and catching/holding the ball on crosses and high shots. He's like a lot of GKs in this era who want to punch and parry everything away even when a grab is called for.
BA is wonky because they've won some nice tournament/festival games early on but I think they lost a game last week that made me scratch my head...Bartlesville maybe (who Union beat 2-0 as well). BA did beat Union in the Jenks tournament 3-1. It was the 2nd game of the day for Union (long day, 1st game at 9am, 2nd game at 6pm). Mind you, I am only reporting scores so I don't know how the games played out. I don't know who BAs GK is this season. I know they had a SO last year who played mostly JV but is really solid player and kid. My son would frequently train with him at Blitz last season.
On the west side, I thought Edmond Memorial would have a handle on things but they got slapped around last night by Norman North. NN is always good and it looks like Edmond North is solid as well. If there was a surprise on the west side, it might be Southmoore. The coach will need to keep his kids from getting thrown out of games though. They're pretty chippy. Very technically skilled and their defense was very organized and athletic in the games I saw them in last season.
Who did Owasso play?
Bixby got a 3-0 win over Bishop Kelley last evening. I don't know how good of a measuring stick that is to tell how good Bixby is. BK doesn't have the same talent that they had 3-4 years ago where they could hang and play with 6A schools. They've got a solid GK and a nice CB (if they're playing him at CB....last year they would run him out at the 9).
