therein lies the problem... congress has approved far more spending than it ever should have. the fact that the federal govt is the nations largest employer is CRIMINAL and that is backed up by the fact that only "non essential" personnel are being furloughed.Originally posted by WATU2:

It is canelled because Obama wants to keep his politics in the media by getting his message on all the sports programming in additon to the news media. These tactics are like you'd see in Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, and any totalitarian "regime" (and the Jimmy Carter playbook). Its a political tactic used by a demagogue for political purposes regardless of the welfare of the cadets and the citizens who would attend. He does it because he can. I'd love to hear the conversation between whoever it was in the WH and the commandants of those schools.Originally posted by lawpoke87:
Can someone rationally explain to me why the government would cancel the service academies games this weekend?
The Navy-Air Force game is a sellout and would be a large cash windfall for the government. Yet, they're cancelling it due to lack of money?
Makes absolutely no sense.
I mean, it could be that Obama is as bad as Stalin and Hitler, or it could be that all civilian employees of the service academies (i.e., the coaching staff) are now on furlough.Originally posted by rabidTU:

Surely they'd make enough money to pay the refs and wasn't it going to be on TV for the revenue as well?
Sure it does.. depending on the message you want to send.Originally posted by lawpoke87:

So. . . . they wouldn't make enough total money off the game to make up for the coaches salaries FOR THAT game?Originally posted by 2PoorTUFans:

In what universe are welfare and food stamps completely non-essential programs? Sure there are some people who abuse the system, but there are people whose lives depend on receiving that aid. Are you really claiming that the national parks and service academy football teams are essential government services that are much more important than services that keep some people alive? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I read this board.Originally posted by aTUfan:
Of course they will shut down parks and other highly Visible gov activities.
Why don't they shout down non estential programs like welfare, food
Stamp, donations to pbs and acorn, free health care to illegals, giving
A larger tax refund than a person put in ...

+1 I would love for him to try to argue that a double amputee's disability check is non-essentialOriginally posted by 2PoorTUFans:

What do you expect. Gerrymandered districts resulted in TeaParty reps who vote what their districts demand, but the districts look nothing like the rest of America. To some extent the same is true for the remaining districts which are unbalanced as a result. Senators have to represent an entire state, Reps in gerrymandered districts can afford uncompromising, narrow views.
White males are being deprived of their power, as demographics change. They won't go down easily.
It must be really nice to live in a world as simple as yours. The rest of us know there are plenty of people on disability who would love nothing more than to go work hard and earn a paycheck, but are literally unable to because of health problems. These people will die if not for the services you consider non-essential and outside the realm of the government's responsibility.Originally posted by aTUfan:

Welfare, food stamps, child tax crredit, health insurance, . . .
These are all charitable events. The government is NOT a charity.

Don't let the lieberals get to you. They also advocate euthanasia, death panels, late term abortion, infanticide and limiting or eliminating altogether your constitutional rights as a free law abiding american citizen that were granted you by our founding fathers over 2 centuries ago. They enjoy their brand of political thuggery that they "capture" by any means possible - legal or illegal. If you don't jump when they say so, you become an enemy of the state. See Nazi (National Socialist) Germany and their pet nation of old, Soviet (Union of Soviet Socialism) Russia. Lieberalism equals THAT!Originally posted by aTUfan:

Right now we now have diametrically different ways of electing Congress but in the long term that Republicans in the House will likely have to readjust their approach which should be good for the country. National and state wide elections cover a large enough electoral base to enforce moderation and working together. Gerrymandered electoral districts in the House have created a subset of narrowly focused Reps who can afford to take extreme positions and cannot afford to be seen as compromising. That difference should either to continue to cost the Republicans national and statewide elections by wider margins or to cause the Tea Party/gerrymandered groups to split off into a separate group from more mainstream Republicans (aka Noble's RINOs).Originally posted by lawpoke87:

Pick your sources better. Known biased LIEberal sources HuffPo and NPR both had segments about the 200 people, including 30 children, that were turned away from clinical trials scheduled to begin at the NIH this week; and it has been documented EVERYWHERE that the Democrats will not vote piecemeal on each individual government program.Originally posted by aTUfan:
