Unfortunately we have to talk about this game sooner (no pun intended) or later.

Vegas lines opened up with OU as 32 point favorites.

Recent history shows that regardless how good of a season we might or might not have, were going to leave saturday afternoon with a bad taste in our mouths.

If we could somehow pull out at least a 2005 performance I'd be ecstatic. Unfortunately defense was our strength then, now not so much.

No silly turnovers, and maybe create a few, never know what could happen.

Fortunately, we have an open week between the OU game and the Houston game. I'm sure we will welcome it. Go Cane.

We will give up a slew of points but can we score any? We we be able to run? I have not watched OU this year so interested in others' thoughts.

I don't think OU's offensive line is anywhere close to being good, they have one dominate receiver, the rest drop a lot of passes. Mayfield is really good, but Tulsa must make make Mayfield beat them through the air. I like this Tulsa offense, could move the ball through the air on OU, something Tennessee was not capable of.

Perine will gain 200 yards. If they throw the ball at all, it will be to take pressure off the box for him. I've been convinced since early in spring drills this team has the chance to be amongst the most fabled in TU history. Not this game. Have them make the check out to the Women's Rowing Team and get back on the bus. We have business to take care of on October 3 against a beatable team.

OU has one of the nations top run defenses. So, our running game will probably suffer. I'm guessing Monty will throw a trick or two at them, but he might be smarter to save some stuff for Houston at home instead of using it in a losing effort at Norman.

My hope for this game is that we can come out healthy. Many more injuries and we'll have a serious problem on our hands. I would love it if we could keep it respectable similar to the SMU vs Baylor game, but it's not a top priority.

Take TU plus the points. OU has struggled to score...they struggled against Akron who couldn't move the ball at all otherwise they would have covered the spread. I think we will open up the playbook unlike previous coaching staffs who didn't want to reveal the up the middle for 3 yards play we would use ad nauseam in conference play. Keep Striker off of Dane's back and we will have some opportunities to put up some points. OU's secondary is young and is a concern of theirs. Their O-line is also a little green. Perine's yards are almost all on his own. Mixon bounces a lot outside. Tennesee should have won the game but for some reason, they pulled a Tulsa and refused to actually tackle Mayfield in the backfield when they had a chance. Mayfield probably snuck out of 4-5 sacks from Tennessee just because they couldn't get him on the ground. He turned 2-3 of those plays into 1st downs and scores. I'm not saying we are going to win, but I don't think it is going to be as easy for OU as previous years and I will say the game is still a game until after halftime.

I love your optimism. It's about that time that we are due anyway right?

OU has issues at offensive tackle, but the interior line is fine and regardless, Perrine and Mixon are that good. Their receivers are improved this year and we can't count on dropped balls and lucky calls like UNM (the illegal procedure).

We have really good receivers, but I don't think that's enough. Not sold on our running game against their defense. If Dane makes poor decisions like early in FAU game, it could get ugly. If we play smart and the defense does its job, maybe we can keep it close until late. No shame in calling off the dogs, like Huffy suggests. It may not be worth it.

Perrine and Mixon are that good. We will need to make solid tackling a priority. I would have to disagree on OU's WRs, with the exception of Shepard. I haven't seen a ton of production out of that group outside of Shepard. Late in the 2nd half against Akron is about it... Part of this may be because Mayfield seems to be constantly on the run and Shepard is the only one savvy enough to find a space for a ball to be thrown (at this point).

Again, I am not predicting a TU win, but I think it stays in range until about the end of the 3rd.

You clearly didn't watch OU last year. Their receivers were awful when Shephard was hurt. They actually have some guys who can get down the field, get open, and hold onto the ball.

Maybe...but it didn't appear that way on Saturday. OU's offense seemed all Mayfield and Shepard, at least in the 4th Q.

So you missed the catches by Westbrook near the goal line and the catch by Mixon that was called back (and I take it his 75 yarder against Bowling Green)? My point is that they actually have someone other than Shepard this year. I'm not saying they are All Americans, but it beats bupkis that they had last year, which is what your original point was.

I think TU will give a good showing, but Mayfield and the receivers have to start connecting at some point. Against Akron, Mayfield made multiple throws that were simply dropped. The O-line has not been very impressive so far, but by the third game of the season, having just faced down a crowd of 103,000, they are going to get their act improved.
I think the key will be whether TU allows any early big plays. So far, the OU offense has had a tendency to implode in the first half, if given the chance. If the Sooners break a big play early and the TU defense has to dial back its aggressiveness, the OU offense might take the opportunity to look like it did in the 3rd quarter against Akron and the 4th quarter against UT. With the playmakers in this offense, if they can iron out a few wrinkles, they could be awfully good.
One other thing. The way the Sooners like to apply pressure on defense, a turnover early by TU could also make the game go badly early. Should the TU defense get a takeaway from the OU offense, they might get an early lead, then who knows how close it might be?
All things considered, if I were the TU athletic office, I sure would have liked to have scheduled the game before the OT victory in Knoxville, because the Sooners could be flying high for this game after what they just did to Rocky Top!

TU's opponent this week (focus on the ad bar!). We always have our degrees to fall back on

They sure were flying high saturday night when they were taunting and cursing at the Tennessee fans. #30kStudentsCantBuyYouClass

In regards to dialing back our aggressiveness, I think the series is to the point that I would go all out. I mean, going for it repeatedly on 4th down, tossing tons of balls deep etc... If you lose possession, so what? There's a good chance we loose by multiple touchdowns anyway. Why not go big or go home.

When the games on the line you'd expect the big dogs to stay in front of the pack and OU did that in the 4th against Tennessee. I'm like most others on the board and hope we make it interesting and come out with our health.

This is a reasonably accurate post. But with each game, the offensive line will get better. We started seeing it in the 4th quarter vs. the Vols. If you want to penetrate OU's line, go for the left side. We're inexperienced there and it is a weakness.

It's also true that Shepard is our dominant receiver, but the young guys are showing lots of promise too. I disagree about making Mayfield being forced to go to the air to win it. It will be a balanced attack. Hope your coaches are studying the Mixon / Perine wildcat formation. It could be a factor.

This will be a really good game. Stoops gave your team and coaches Montgomery and Young major props in his Monday presser today. Also discussed some pretty impressive 2015 stats that you guys are putting up. The good news (for me) is that there seems to be complete focus on Tulsa this week, and people are excited.

Here's to an injury free, well called game.

Thanks for the welcome back guys! I got out of the hospital the day before TU's first football game and got to watch that exciting FAU game. I'm walking short distances with a walker ( living room to bedroom) but still use a wheelchair as my major mode of transport. I have one foot that hasn't recovered so I'm going tomorrow to get fitted for a brace which should make walking easier. Still getting physical and occupational therapy but hope to return to work in a week or two.

I hate this game, always have hated this game, always will hate this game. 2005 was the product of the defense and Garrett Mills. Mills was all over the field and we just don't have anyone like that now. The fans are a-holes and Big Game Boob will keep the starters in until the bloody end to make up for the close game last week and to justify his pay check.

1996 was a gift as we got the worst OU team in history with a final 3-8 record. Their only wins were Texas (a top 25 team at the time), Baylor and OSU and we were 4-7 with wins over OU, UTEP, Colorado State and huge upset over Iowa at home.

I stopped buying these tickets several years ago after a home game that saw the guy sitting next to me switch from true blue to crimson puke for that one game. Every time we scored I cheered and was threatened with an ass whoopin' by a crowd that was predominantly OU fans. Had a cup of beer thrown on me on the walk back to the car with a "Boomer Sooner" yell and some jackass had destroyed my TU license plate. I would rather suffer the indignation of that beating at home where I can turn it off every now and then.

But if we win, and I always hope we will, I will buy those tickets for the rest of my life to make up for missing this one.

I had a similar experience in Norman in '05. Vowed to never attend a game in that stadium again.

Similar on the trip to Norman in '96 game. I had crap thrown on me the whole freakin game. But I also got to see their fans leaving Memorial Stadium in the 4th quarter! Good Times! Our Fan Section for that game was opposite sideline and end-zone from "the play". But it was still great to have been there for that experience.

For the most part, OU fans are fine, just like anywhere else. But the last couple of times I went down there for this game, there were enough rude encounters that it's hard to justify the trip. My family has a several alumni of both schools and I follow OU football, but it's just not that fun of a trip.

I haven't had any issues in Norman (other than a couple of jerks who irritated the OU fans as well) and this will be my 7th or 8th game for TU there. I enjoyed the 31-24 win and the really good 15-31 game where Adrian Peterson was the difference late in the 4th quarter.

Heh... yeah, that sucked. The most memorable thing about that game was the mini Sooner Schooner you all brought to that game. Kept dumping it over on it's side in the south endzone after each Tulsa score. That was some good in-your-face college smack.

Welcome back Nevada. You were very much missed!!!

I've made several of these TU-OU games, with 1996 obviously being my favorite. I've generally had good interactions with their fans.

My first take on this game was similar to many on here.....a 45-17 loss with no injuries would be a very good outcome. However, the more I think about it, I sure hope Coach Monty & staff don't share that thought. I think some of our previous coaches have shared that viewpoint. It seems we have subbed out our starters BEFORE OU (& OSU) in many of these games in recent years. I am NOT saying our players haven't always played their best. I do think players can sense their coach's expectations for a game.

I think we could at least make it interesting this year for a few reasons :

1. Our new Coach had pretty good success against OU as Baylor's OC. I know there are personnel differences, but TU does have some weapons on offense.
2. We have much less to lose this year compared to many previous years. We are not projected to contend for a conference championship this year. Coach Monty is in his first season & has zero pressure on him. We shouldn't be saving anything for later games.
3. I think Coach Monty doesn't know how to throttle down, so he will give 'em our best shot.

Regardless of the outcome, I hope we coach this game all out & see what happens.

I have no doubt Coach Monty and staff and his players are going in with the mindset they are playing to win and can win if they execute their game plan. Essentially you win a football game by executing your game plan on both sides of the ball and forcing the other team to abandon theirs.

I don't anticipate it being close but we have enough weapons to move the ball a bit. Who knows.

OU's offensive line is hurting, lost best lineman in Ty Darlington Saturday, and now second best, Nila Kasitati, appears to be hobbled. Phillip Montgomery has had amazing success against the mighty Sooners, Kelly Hines laid out Montgomery's success against Oklahoma this morning, from 2014 through 2007, Baylor won 48-14 2014, 41-12 2013, 34-42 L 2012, 45-38 2011, 24-53 L 2010, 7-33 L 2009, 17-49 L 2008, and 21-52 L in 2007 No question in my mind that Tulsa will go up and down the field on these guys, it all starts at the top, not saying Tulsa will keep OU under 40, but Tulsa will move the ball. Update: Both Darlington and Kasitati expected to practice today, but neither did, I suspect at least Darlington out for Saturday.

If we can move the ball on OU effectively, that should be a good sign going into conference play. Although Temple may actually be the best defensive team, OU included, when things play out this year.
