Nevada should be a top 20 team next year. We’ll also play UMass or Southern Illinois in that tournament.

Hopefully it gets defined as a road game similar to how the KSU game was this season.

Ok, so I’m not sure how I’m feeling about this now. If we are indeed going to be playing in this tourney then it looks like we would be playing road games at two of the teams below in addition to a Vegas game against Nevada and another unnamed team. While those would be good games to play and give us a shot at some resume builders it also means we’re being cast in the same role as Jackson State and Savannah State.

From “bloggingthebracket.com”:

Nov. TBA: Campus sites
Nov. 22-23: Las Vegas

Hosts and Semifinalists

Neutral site.....
Shouldn't be for the same reason KSU wasn't a defined by the NCAA as neutral site (by the end of the year). Although it being an invitational tournament does make a difference I suppose.

Ok, I had the wrong tourney. Both are being played simultaneously in Vegas.

Again From “bloggingthebracket.com”:

Las Vegas Holiday Invitational
Nov. 16-19: Campus sites
Nov. 22-23: Las Vegas

LVHIHosts2018.png

Hosts’ Semifinals
Tulsa Golden Hurricane (American) vs. Nevada Wolf Pack (MW) (Chris Murray, Reno Gazette-Journal)
UMass Minutemen (A 10) vs. Southern Illinois Salukis (MVC) (Matt Vautour, Daily Hampshire Gazette, matchup by process of elimination)

Visitors Bracket (presumed based on dates in Murray’s story above)
On-Campus Games
Nov. 16: Little Rock at Nevada (Chris Murray, Reno Gazette-Journal)

Nov. 19: Cal Baptist at Nevada

We're going to get stuck with a team like the Denver Pioneers...which would be great if this was a hockey game

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Little Rock and somebody like Central Missouri.

Weird tournament. Nevada could be a juggernaut. Everyone else is "bleh" to "meh" in status.

Kansas State (home)
ORU (away)
Dayton (neutral)
Nevada (neutral)
UMASS or Southern Illinois (neutral)

OSU? Illinois St.? I'm tired of playing ISU, but they normally finish top 100 RPI (#85 this year, at 17-15). What happened with the Creighton series? There should be an AAC/Big East challenge

I just got an email from Orleans Arena and the other TBA teams are Howard and UAPB (Pine Bluff). I would lay odds that we have home games with UALR and UAPB on our schedule.

Is ORU for sure happening? I heard that Haith has zero interest in continuing that series.

ORU is not really any sort of rivalry or bigger game anymore, judging by the attendance and overall interest. When was the last time this game sold out?

Seems like I hear that about ever coach.
I think the source is the fans... afraid to lose...
No excuse to not play play them. No excuse to lose to them.

I could take it or leave it - there are valid reasons on both sides of the argument. In theory, it should be played though. I was just passing a long what I heard (more reliable than what I’ve heard in the past). Not saying it’ll happen, but you never know.

Nevada picked up a grad transfer yesterday that was deciding between them and WSU. They will have a good team next year no matter what but if Caroline and/or the twins come back they could be the best team on our schedule.

And they’re doing it with 9 transfers on scholarship.

Nevada currently has nine transfers in its program counting the Martin twins and Jordan Caroline. Will be interesting to see what this team looks like after 5/30.

ORU used to be a decent RPI game... lately, not so much...

150 and above is not a terrible RPI game for us. The last 2 years are killers though regardless of winning or losing the game.

Recruiting question, if a player is a 2018 recruit does that mean he plays in 18-19 or signs this fall and plays 19-20. The reason I ask is Nevada just got a commitment from the number 31 recruit in the 2018 class.

They are putting together something special in Nevada regardless of what you might think about assembling nearly an entire squad of transfers and jucos.

If those kids that are testing the temp of the NBA stay in school their going to be scary regardless of who their playing and are set for some continuity in the future.

5* center/pf. 11th ranked player nationally. He will be a load down low for us to handle.

'18 recruit plays in the fall.

Thanks. This is looking like a tough game. We’ll know by June if the three juniors are returning. If they do somebody either gets jettisoned or would have to walk on as they would be two over the limit. I really hope we can pull this one off.

One and done or will there be a return game? I like seeing us play PAC teams as they are winnable and are good RPI games.

Ought to be close to filling out the schedule. ORU, OSU, K-State, UALR, UAPB, Nevada, UMass, Utah and I’m sure I’ve missed some.

Jordan Caroline announced today he will return for his senior year. The Martin twins still have not announced their decision.

The Martin twins have pulled out of the draft and will return for their senior season. So, TU will be facing the team that made it to the sweet sixteen last season with their starting point guard, who was injured a few weeks before the tourney, and a 5 star recruit in the middle.

This should be our toughest game of the season and if we can pull the upset would a great boost to our resume come March.
