I think I initially set an arbitrary line of 50 on this one. UCONN was up 44 with 5 left to go in the 3rd quarter. Playing the women's basketball season and tournament is largely pointless right now...just hand Geno another trophy. This UCONN team may be even better than last year's if that is possible.

Some local girls got a chance to play against uConn Sophomore guard Kia Nurse from Canada when they were in high school. Every one said that she was the best player that they had ever faced.

We need the last 5 on UCONN's bench and would come in second in the AAC.

And UCONN has 6-7 of those players every year. Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore have to be 2 of the best players that have ever played women's basketball, and to think UCONN had Taurasi, Sue Bird,Rebecca Lobo and a seemingly endless list of other players that were probably considered the "best ever" at the time is astounding. Stewart is ridiculously good and has the drive and motivation of a player fighting for playing time. That is probably what sets Geno Auriemma apart from every other coach...he gets great players and somehow makes them better by getting them to buy in and exert every last ounce of effort on every play. Not only does UCONN have the best players, they seemingly work harder than everyone. It's a rare combination to find that and it doesn't matter who they play be it TU or Notre Dame, you are going to get the same hard-nosed "I am going to outwork you" effort night in and night out.

So what's the deal with our women's bkb program? I thought Matilda was moving them in the right direction. But every time I look at a box score, they're 4 or 5 games under .500. I could be wrong but this seems to have been my experience the last few years.

There are only so many Sherri Coale's that you can hire away from Norman High School...

In the games I have been to, they struggle to defend inside and rebound. TU has some OK size, but those players are not very athletic or quick so there is not a shot blocker and no one that can really go up to get rebounds. They have lost a lot of close games this year as they don't have that one scorer they can go to, although I think Ashley Clark and Kelsey Grovee could be that type of player. In the game they won against ECU, ECU ate TU alive in the paint and scored a ton inside as well as grabbed a lot of offensive rebounds. TU was really effective in driving the ball to the basket and hit a lot of mid-range shots (in the game they lost to ORU, TU struggled to hit anything).

BTW, I go to the women's games because my daughter loves to hang out with the cheerleaders. At womens' games it general admission seating so we can go sit courtside, and she gets to go on the floor with them and cheer and dance.

Do we at least LOOK like we know what we're doing? With the exception of last night b/c of the total mismatch. Charlene was such a train wreck after Jillian graduated, so I guess it wouldn't take much to improve.

It's better under Matilda. The fundamentals are there, but sometimes the execution gets sloppy. She really just needs to grab a big, athletic center from somewhere to be able to compete inside. A Jillian Robbins would help nicely.

I seem to recall her getting a # of 3 & 4 star recruits, and she doesn't seem to have much to show for it? Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't pay a bunch of attention to the women.
