Really nice win against a physical team - the type (ECU and Temple) that has historically given Nelp’s teams trouble. Played 3/4 court pressure the entire game and forced 34 TO’s (we also had 24). Out rebounded 38 -27) but we had 21 steals (Elise Hill had 8). Shot 56.5% and 33.3% from the 3. We made 17-23 FTs. ECU shot 51% and 60% from the 3 but was only 11-20 at FT line. Crawford had 36, Periman 14, Bradley 12, Cartwright 9, Hill 8 for the starters. Ayson had 10, Alexander and Clack 2 each off the bench. ECU had huge height advantage and borderline dirty play. Joyner their best player at about 6’4 should have fouled out with about 5 minutes left and four fouls but the officials swallowed their whistles and allowed her to go over the top on rebounds, backhanded Periman (no call) and threw elbows all afternoon. Hearp was a really good player for them and would do well in Nelp’s offense.
Really impressed with Nelp’s adjustments minus Poindexter. Her offense is using great back cuts leading to lot’s of layups and the back court pressure also led to many layups. She throws in a zone frequently to mix things up. I am not a basketball expert but her coaching is really good. Nice use of bench players at the right time to rest starters. Now that we are healthy (Periman back) we should be in the upper tier of the conference.
