Top 10 Juco Transfers - DaQuan Jeffries

3 conference players deemed to be among the top 10 glue guys in the nation, by John Rothstein and a couple of under the radar guys.

10 glue guys to watch for in 17-18 CBB season
By Jon Rothstein

Gary Clark, Cincinnati: Simply put, Clark is a problem for the opposition. Armed with a stone-cold stare and a game that backs up his program’s hard-earned reputation, this senior power forward is relentless on defense and on the glass. An enforcer with no remorse, Clark isn’t satisfied until he and his teammates achieve one thing — victory.

Josh Brown, Temple: Solid as a rock, Brown missed most of last season with an Achilles injury. His return makes the Owls a contender in the American Conference. Two years ago, Brown logged 1,128 minutes and Temple won its conference outright. Last season, the veteran point guard logged 102 minutes and the Owls finished 16-16. You do the math.

Jarrey Foster, SMU: Once Jahmal McMurray is eligible in December, the Ponies will have one of college basketball’s top perimeters with he, Jimmy Whitt and Shake Milton. But don’t forget about Foster. The 6-6 junior made massive strides from his freshman to sophomore season and his intangibles will play a huge role in whether or not Tim Jankovich can take this team back to the field of 68. Efficient on offense and capable on the boards, Foster is the ultimate blend guy for a program that expects to hear its name called on Selection Sunday.

Aubrey Dawkins, Central Florida: The son of UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins, Aubrey Dawkins is likely to be a starter on a team that is a dark-horse pick to reach the NCAA Tournament. A rotation player during his two-year stint at Michigan, Dawkins brings length, experience and pedigree to a team that is looking to take the next step after an appearance in the Postseason NIT last season.

Akoy Agau, SMU: If the Ponies are going to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2018, Agau will be a major reason why. After sporadic production at both Louisville and Georgetown, Akoy arrives in Dallas as SMU’s sole hope for a low post presence. The door is open for this kid to have a memorable final year in college basketball and if he does, Tim Jankovich could be in position to receive an NCAA Tournament bid for the second consecutive season.

So 2/5ths of SMU's starters are "glue guys". Is that a good thing...and how is Agau (someone who has been inconsistent his entire career) a glue guy? Wouldn't he be someone who needs a "glue guy"?

Josh Brown is a scrub. They don't mention that Temple was replacing:

Jalen Bond, Quentin DeCosey, and Devin Coleman last season.

Those 3 guys were 3 of their top 4 scorers. Brown was basically doing nothing last season before the injury.

Rothstein has had a hard on for him and Temple for a long time.

You didn’t read my post correctly. Dawkins and Agua are under the radar players.

My apologies....Didn't realize the significance of the --------- line in the copied article. Makes more sense now.

You might want to get your facts right before you post. Bond, DeCosey and Coleman graduated 2 years ago.

Temple returns 6 of their top 8 scorers only losing Dingle 12.6 and Williams 6.1, their 3rd and 7th scorers

Alston 13.9
Enechionyia13.1
Rose 10.1
Brown 7.2. 52% fgs, 33% 3-pt and 73% fts
Moore, Alain 6.5
Aflakpui 4.3
Moore, Damien 3.7

You might want to realize what I was talking about before jumping to conclusions Bill. My facts are correct. I knew that they graduated 2 years ago. The article attributes a lot of the reason Temple did so well in conference play 2 YEARS AGO to Brown and the reason that they did so poorly last season was to not having Brown. They fail to mention that they did poorly because they lost 3 of their top 4 scorers. Brown was a decent assist man, but he's not the guy that Rothstein constantly makes him out to be. Shaq Harrison ate him alive every time we faced him. They weren't bad last year simply because Brown was out.

Still, Aston's point about some of the undue glory Temple has been given for the last 2-3 years we've been in the conference seems unfounded and media induced for a Philly program they WANT to be successful. I still don't get the infatuation with Enechionya. Alston is a 'meh' player to me.The only reason Temple has beaten us at all in the last 2 seasons is because we've had some epic melt downs. You'd think Temple went to the NCAA the last 10 years in a row. Fact is they were one of the last teams in in 2016 just like Tulsa was...and they lost a close one to a B1G team, just like TU did. I don't get the constant love for them.

BTW, I hate agreeing with Aston on a lot of things

Point taken with those 3 but in the few games he played in last year Brown had pretty good stats. His return and with most of their scoring back, is the reason many analysts are giving them love. Rothstein isn’t the only one. Katz picked Temple and Tulsa as sleepers.

And they did win the conference 2 years ago. I don’t think Rothstein was saying Temple will win the conference this year but as is with Tulsa returning so much, we both should be looking at shots at st large berths.

I mean to say, Tulsa is probably in a better spot to do well in conference than Temple. Brown is back, but his addition isn't going to mean as much as people think. Especially since it was an Achilles injury. Those things aren't easy to come back from in a year. Just ask Kobe Bryant. They do add some quality freshman, but I think our additions will be a bit better than theirs considering Jeffries and Scott have D-1 experience.

Also, Brown's splits last year weren't that good. He had one good game (11 pts, 7 stl, 5 ast) against a very poor DePaul team.

I hope you’re right. I feel we’re better than them too but any time you have that much returning from a decent team, they have to be better than last year. And they did beat Florida St and W Virginia. The conference from top to bottom will be much better.

Feel free to save all of my predictions. I make plenty of them on this board and they're all in good faith. I'm always willing to admit when I was wrong.

But "I told you so" is kinda lame, isn't it? How about you name the point spread for a "spanking" and I'll increase my GHC donation by $100 every time we get spanked by UCF or SMU (or Houston or UConn or Temple, if you'd like).

If we don't get "spanked", you make your first GHC donation. And add to it each time. Choose your own amount. Does that work for you or are all these hot takes just a troll job?

We finished 5-2 against this group, but did get spanked by Houston. So, true to my word, I made an extra $100 donation. Please continue saving my posts for an I told you so.
