Top 10 Juco Transfers - DaQuan Jeffries

Wow, Houston, Memphis(x2), Tulsa, Wichita St.
The league cleaned up on JC recruits to pull 5 of the top 10 in JC players with the most impact.

But how could a JC player not have an impact on Memphis this year?

We have to hope that Houston's additions don't end up trumping ours. I think we have an opportunity to finish in front of them. That would be my goal for the season.

Mine is to finish ahead of Memphis, Temple, and
Houston.

Ideally one or both of SMU and UCF would be nice too. A 3-5 finish would be a nice season.

I'm not worried about finishing in front of Memphis. Temple is a maybe. I think they're a bit overrated though. UCF will spank us this year. SMU probably will too.

TU plays SMU only once and the game is here, well into the season. I look for a W FINALLY on our home court.

Same score with UCF.

Same with Houston except it's on the road. @Houston and SMU games could play a large role in determining where we finish.

I don’t understand the UCF hype. What about that team says they will be significantly improved over last year?

People think they have good transfers. Wojcik beat their coach and you know my thoughts on Tacko.

They finished 68th in KenPom last year and add a couple good transfers, plus Dawkins' son and a stiff from Texas Tech. I think they'll be really good, but I don't think they'll "spank" us. And SMU definitely won't "spank" us this year.

Saving this for an I told you so.

Saving this for an I told you so.

Feel free to save all of my predictions. I make plenty of them on this board and they're all in good faith. I'm always willing to admit when I was wrong.

But "I told you so" is kinda lame, isn't it? How about you name the point spread for a "spanking" and I'll increase my GHC donation by $100 every time we get spanked by UCF or SMU (or Houston or UConn or Temple, if you'd like).

If we don't get "spanked", you make your first GHC donation. And add to it each time. Choose your own amount. Does that work for you or are all these hot takes just a troll job?

Too much to save for at the moment. (House, wedding, etc...) although I have donated to the GHC before.

You'll have to settle for a verbal.

If you're able to donate that much, why don't you just do it anyway?

I don’t know whether I’m shocked or disgusted that a “fan” would prefer his team not only lose but lose badly just so he could proclaim that he’s right.
It has nothing to do with my desire for TU to win. It's just a prediction. We will be good this year, but UCF will be very good as will SMU.

Am I supposed to just say we're going to win every game?

It wasn’t your prediction that UCF will beat us because, although I would disagree, we did split with them last year, it was the I told you so comment that to me was way over the line.

I think the disregard for the improvement of other programs' development
is ignorant, which is just banal to me.

If you eliminate Tacko from the game, you can beta them because they are otherwise terrible on defense. Tacko's conditioning, make it a running game and force him out. His footwork is awful and he makes up with a sloth like wingspan. In our games against them last year, we were fine until the 3pt sniper decided to get Inferno hot. I am still not sold on UCF...people are just so enamored with giants on the court.

Sidenote... why has Haith made pretty much zero use of any of these extra game-like reps that the NCAA grants teams? You can take a foreign trip every 4 years. Maybe if we had taken the rest of the team down to Australia then we could have kept a closer eye on Magnay. As far as I've seen listed, there were no closed door scrimmages planned, and we didn't even use the Exhibition exception that was being given this year. We could have grabbed an opponent like Creighton pretty easily and donated the money to hurricane relief. Intrasquad scrimmages are nice, but they don't prepare you in the same way facing an unfamiliar opponent does.

Congrats. Who is the lucky fellow World of Warcraft player?

Your sister sends her regards. She said play nice with the other children.

I was wondering last year why we didn’t do a foreign tour, with that many new players it would have been very helpful. If I had to guess at the reason I would guess finances. It may be that the school felt they couldn’t afford it.

My guess too. Although it doesn't take much to send the team to Canada.

Getting back to the thread topic : After watching Saturday's scrimmage, I agree with Jeffries being a Top Ten JUCO addition.

I think Jeffries will be a big part of our success this season, especially with Magnay's departure.

UConn loses to Providence 90-76. And they looked a lot like last year's team.

Providence is pretty good. They made the NCAA tourney last year and have their top 7 scorers back—plus the #15 recruiting class in 2017 with 3 4-stars.

That's good because we will probably handle them when we play. But it's also bad because that probably means that's one less good team in our league.

this is why exhibition games against other opponents should not be reported. Who knows whether the coaching staff played the first team all game, or tried different defenses, or even tried to win. I recall one year when it was rumored that TU won against NMSU on the road - everyone was excited and it meant nada.

I watched the entire game. Fox Sports carried it.

As CTT said it was televised. The game was played to raise money for hurricane relief I believe.

I agree that exhibition games are not a tell-all, particularly in a close game where the favorite won. Great chance they simply played it close to the chest, got some playing tie in for everyone, and allowed the opponent to do the same. In a loss/upset, one never knows. But you can certainly see a glimpse of talent or a lack thereof. You also rarely see a team that gets "upset" in an exhibition turn out to be a true monster later on. Generally, they are "fair" indicators, but less useful than a normal first game of the season.

Curran Scott said "I think this team is really jelling well and we can make it to the tournament for sure. We don’t expect anything less than that.” Right now Tulsa has maybe 2 or 3 players have the confidence to think and say something like that. Tulsa needs an entire team that thinks that way and can say that.

Ollie needs to show he can put together a winning team. I'm not a believer in UConn or SMU. I see a significant drop off after Cincy and WSU. There are opportunities out there to to finish in the top 3 or 4 of this conference. Can we be one of those teams?

I agree on Ollie. He seems to be able to recruit kids with great reputations and great * value from recruiting services so they should be better but have been disappointments the last 3 years. Why? Because I'm not sold on Ollie's ability to coach the X's and O's or develop effective in game adjustments. Only the one game our first year in conference in Storrs where 2-3 guys including Juice were playing with the flu did UCONN overwhelm us. Every other game we've had an opportunity to win, have won, or should have won and their fans have a meltdown wondering how in the world Tulsa beat might UCONN in basketball. I say Ollie needs to prove something this year or they're going to look for a new coach.
