All of the individuals were killed in their homes so I don’t believe that is correct. Weird deal…gunman was appointed to a Board of Governors by Tim Walz. Gunman’s wife served as an intern for Walz. Gunman supposedly had a list of over 70 names of mostly state and local politicians. Left a manifesto. Could have been a lot worse.

It is worrisome that the US has been increasingly sidelined because Trump claims he can do everything alone, and few believe it. Biden negotiated against Putin with all of Europe by his side. Obama negotiated with Iran with Germany, Russia and others at the table. Now it's the US going solo. Trump sent a real estate investor who became infatuated with Putin to deal with Russia/Ukraine; no wonder Putin simply plowed on ahead. Netanyahu knew Trump wasn't getting anywhere with Iran. Maybe MAGA still believes Trump is a great negotiator, but apparently other world leaders don't.
Yeah, I just skimmed a basic article on the incident. It seems abortion may have been one of, if not the single target of his angst. Now that they have left it to the individual states to decide on regulations for abortion I guess he felt like it was state politicians who needed to be eliminated?

Trump was never a good negotiator. He just didn't pay people for services rendered. He was just a bully, similar to Putin. But I don't think the entire western world would have helped for negotiations with Putin and Iran. Democrats and Republcans have constantly failed with Iran, simply because they lied and never intended to live up to the negotiations they supposedly committed to.
Putin plowed ahead and invaded Ukraine under Biden not Trump.
I firmly believe neither party (Pub or Dem) understands the mindset of Russia, Iran or even China. Those countries are never going to voluntarily negotiate in good faith. They will only make concessions when no other viable options are available. You want to bring Putin to the negating table? Make moves to convince him that NATO is willing to enter the conflict in Ukraine. Not just enter it but with overwhelming force. I do understand the danger of this btw and aren’t necessarily advocating this path
Repeat for Iran. They will never voluntarily give up nuclear weapons. To be fair….why should they when their neighbors have them. You’re probably going have to destroy them or obtain a regime change and a temporary abandonment.

I have to think they understand their mindset. They just keep negotiating because they can't find a militant action that they are willing to do. The old axiom, keep doing the same thing over again, and expecting a different result.
Israel was beginning to work with Gazans to achieve this result in the weeks before this attack. They hadn't got very far into it. Whether that was because it needed more time, or because they didn't have much ability to influence something like that is anybody's guess.
To clarify he was appointed by the previous governor first and reappointed by Walz.

True. The one possible difference in Iran is I believe the percentage of the population which are devout Muslims is actually fairly small. Lots of progressive young people in that country

Only way it makes sense is if we have the weapons system needed to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities and that is the extent of our involvement. Thats a decent return on a limited investment. I would also hope Trump gets Congressional approval. However, if Iran has attacked our bases or embassy then I doubt it’s required or even dictated by precedent. Now boots on the ground would absolutely trigger congressional approval
They didn't seem to do much damage to Fordow in the mountains. I'm not sure we could do much damage to that facility.
It's the only one that would have any hope of doing any damage. Just depends on where it hits. The facility is 260-300 ft underground.
The War Powers act is fairly clear. The president has 60 days + a 30 day troop withdrawal period without a resolution for the authorization of force or declaration of war.
That's the same thing that kept us out of Libya and Kosovo for prolonged periods.
Personally I think it should be revised to be somewhat more restrictive on the executive, with the acknowledgement that we will be attacked again someday and will have to contact congress to respond.
Absolutely surreal watching real time hundreds of ballistic missiles targeting and at times hitting a metro area of 4.5M people. Tonight is being reported as the largest missile attack of the war on behalf of Iran

After last nights barrage of Iranian missiles, one would think Israel would respond with heightened attacks against economic and nuclear assets tonight. Israel appears to now control the airspace above Iran. US made weapon systems have proven highly capable over their Russian counterparts. Once Iran runs out of ballistic missiles they will be basically helpless. The clock is ticking for the Iranian regime

Clarification. What I meant by clock is ticking is that Iran is going to run out of ballistic missiles in fairly short order. They will have zero offensive capabilities once that occurs. Their defensive capabilities have already been greatly diminished as Israel has control of Iranian airspace. Regime change while a huge positive is still not likely imo. Taking out their nuclear program appears to be the objective. With their current options, I can see Iran wanting to resume nuclear talks and ending this thing as quickly as possible. They can’t win a drawn out conflict

Part of me kinda wishes that Russia (or even the US) could place a single nuclear equipped missile with dual key control in Iran (similar to what we have in Turkey, South Korea, etc…) for the price of the resignation of their Supreme Leader.
Just say “you want a nuke so bad? There now you have a nuke… but it can only be used with our agreement and in defense, and it will be located at an American controlled alcove similar to GITMO. “Your safety is now ensured so long as you don’t (from my viewpoint) antagonize your neighbors” you get to be a medium sized player on the world stage.
And then turn around to Israel and tell them that continued offensive military action in the region will result in dire consequences.
See what the change in both of their postures would be. It’s an interesting thought experiment. I think both of them would obviously wig out before it could take place. (And one or the other of China, Russia, or the US would go mental if that happened obviously)

They are conducting nonstop air attacks in Iran while Iran continues to lob a thousand ballistic missiles. Classifying this as a tit of tat because you don’t won’t to be wrong is absurd. This is a major military conflict and has been reported by every media outlet as the same.
No, Ukraine is a major military conflict. This is a sideshow, just like Gaza was a sideshow.
Iran can’t adequately defend itself technologically. Israel can’t press their advantage without the USA who will not do so due to oil prices and trade wars. We’re at some what of an impasse. Manufactured by US weapons being given to basically a vassal state.
Iran will capitulate and restart their nuclear operation from a lower rung (again), with the major difference being that they’re even angrier this time, and they will hate the US more for making it all happen. Probably some extra funding will go to terror groups who will have a big casualty event (or events) in a couple of years in claimed retaliation for Israel and the US’s action in the region. Not long after their nuclear program will re-emerge and we get to begin the cycle all over again.

Large number of airstrikes now occurring across Iran. This appears to be the largest military action to date against Iran and one of the largest seen in any war for years. US fighters and bombers are reported to be involved. Here we go. Major escalation of this conflict now occurring. I can’t think of a reason for US aircraft to be involved other than the total destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities assuming reports of US involvement is accurate
