Because that was necessary to stimulate the ecomony. Trade wars (or threatened trade wars and threatened annexation) with countries that we have surpluses with and have been 200 year allies, is not.
If only our (non-Nazi) manufacturers chose to make cars that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to run because of their fuel costs and somewhat limited gas infrastructure
No. The Fed was using every tool they had to slow down the economy and get inflation under control. The Biden Admin was doing everything they could to pump more money into the economy because he (well not him he was a potted plant) believed gdp growth and low unemployment numbers were more important than $8 a carton eggs. This was post covid shock. The third stimulus and every spending measure thereafter. Even if you believe the third trillion was necessary, you were still silent on the spending measures afterwards while the Fed was raising rates to tighten the money supply. I talked about this constantly. You never criticized a single measure of the Biden Admin or addressed any concern about inflation even when the same was running well over 8%. Why?
Guess there is the question was Biden and crew actually stupid enough to believe you could inject trillions into an economy already short on goods and not experience severe inflation other than “transitory” or did he do it due to the facts mentioned above? Is that why the fought the Fed the last two years of his presidency?
I could also address the fact that WATU now cares about deficits after four years of silence. I simply don’t understand the lack of self awareness when it comes to hypocrisy . I would be similar to myself all of a sudden not caring about deficits because Pubs control government. Help me understand?

We’ve been running deficits of $2T per year over the last four years. Did these clowns just say these measures would “explode the debt and risk a serious debt spiral”? What the hell have they been watching the last 4-5 years?
For the record, I’m still against any tax cuts as I’m still focused on getting our fiscal house in order. My policies and focus doesn’t change based on who’s in the White House. Glad to see you back on the deficit train after a four year hiatus
That was there to help minor local manufacturers compete with car brands that were slightly uncompetitive locally because of economies of scale and it was small in %. It will be a relatively small boon to American manufacturers, and a huge loss to local companies.(Citroen and etc)
The brands that are more competitive on the national market really shouldn't be getting this assistance, but they must, to allow the smaller companies to get the assistance. (Volkswagen & etc.) This might threaten the existence of some local companies down the line. I don't see it as being an unfair tariff on the European part. Not fair to local car companies that they get put up ss sacrifices to Trumps bullying. Wonder if certain countries will subsidize some local car brands.
The US places a 2.5% tariff on European car imports. You don’t believe it’s fair their tariff is the same as ours?
No I don't. Due to scale of economies, most brands can't compete with American brands, especially because those American brands have been around so long. Only Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and BMW cars are competitive on the world stage because Germany educates/produces great engineers. Limited edition companies like Jaguar & Land Rover are only competitive because they produce less luxury cars at a higher price point. (Only mentioning British brands because they are in Europe, and recently pulled out of the European Union.)
These are tiny countries competing with a huge country. You can't expect them to produce something so large and costly of a consumer product, with so many material costs as a car and compete with us on their home soil. Asia is another story. Their engineers are on an equal level to Germans. Asia does not have the right to a better tariff rate. If we could separate Germany from Europe, as far as tariffs go, that would be the ideal.
What European auto manufacturers are you specifically worried about? Those you mentioned comprised a vast majority of auto companies in the EU. All are able to compete head to head with their US counterparts. You seem more worried about a few small auto companies in Europe than the health of the US auto industry. Having equal tariffs on like kind exporters/importers (US / EU) is seldom a bad idea imo.
Italian brands like Alpha Romeo, Fiat, etc. Spanish brands like Hispano-Suiza. Quadro(Swedish), Zenvo(Danish), Magna Steyr(Austrian), Revoz DD(Slovenian), Rimac(Croation), Donkervoort(one of many Dutch brands), etc. US auto industry is plenty healthy.

I'll give Poke credit on tarriffs. So far Trump has used them as a distraction to divert attention from the illegal, destructive stuff going on behind the scenes with a bunch of unelected, unvetted kids with spotty backgrounds rampaging through everyone's private data. Although China tarriffs did have consequences and will have more.

I can make the same argument regarding small US companies looking to get into the EV market. Neither argument is particularly compelling to me. Equal and low tariffs from similar sized and positioned economies is rarely a bad thing for either party. I’m a bit surprised anyone would take issue with equal tariffs between the US and EU. Agree to disagree here
How does that argument about small US companies trying to get into the ev market have anything to do with anything. Big US companies like Tesla, Chevy, Ford, etc are in the ev market.
If understand your argument against equal tariffs between the US and EU the point is that the smaller auto manufacturers in Europe need to be protected from the US automakers selling vehicles there through high tariffs. They are obviously on their own versus the large EU auto makers. They don’t fare too well btw if you look at market share.
How does the same argument not apply to European auto makers selling their EV in the US? Should start up EV makers here in the states not be afforded the same protection against European EVs your arguing for small EU makers?
No, why would they. There is not any small EU ev makers with some great advantage here, and there is still the disadvantage of economies of scale being a hardship on EU makers. I don't comprehend how that argument has anything to do with anything here in what we are discussing. Volkswagen is the most profitable and advanced ev maker, and we have already addressed them. Volkswagen is relatively just like Chevy & Ford both in the EV and gasoline market. It's the Asians that we need to worry about in the EV market anyway.
It would be unfair of us to bring our large scale companies to come in and compete for their ev market, because several countries over there are already set up for electric cars more than we are. Unless they are travelling outside the countries borders, the battery is not as limiting. Their electric companies are more easily able to scale up their servicing an area that is the size of one state in the US. They are trying to become less reliant on gas, because they don't want Russia to have power over them as well. In Finland for this reason, most of their cars operate on electricity. If you tax ev cars with Tariffs, that's Finland's entire market. At least other countries besides Germany can profit through EU sales tax on German cars.
Because the inflationary shock wasn't primarily related to the stimulus supply, it was related to supply chain issues lingering from Covid and the commodity shock to the world oil & gas markets caused by Putin.

We do disagree on the third stimulus. However, in this instance I was specifically speaking of actions taken by the Biden Admin post third stimulus which increased the money supply in the economy as the Fed was working to decrease the same. I brought up a few of these as they were either enacted or proposed.
We will see if our system survives this lawless attempt at dismantling our system. I hope so. But no doubt in my mind this is the pinnacle of hubris and disregard for our system, civil servants, and norms.

Looks like FEMA is still paying hotels in NYC to house illegals. Wish we could find some middle ground. Don’t like the scorch earth strategy I’m seeing but I also don’t like all the waste being uncovered. CBS poll gave Trump a 53% approval rating yesterday. Surprised that number is that high

I would never had said anything like this regarding any prior presidential term in my lifetime. This is a different animal. Our centuries old system is at serious risk.

If you were posting on practically any social media site over the past four years we know for a fact the those posts were being reviewed, captured and at times deleted at the direction of the federal government. So that wouldn’t be unprecedented
You don't shut down all us foreign aid, and then check it. That is backwards from how it should happen. Foreign aid that is important the the country it is being given to, and important to the US, can and does provide immediate problems for both us and them. First you study it, then you cut what is necessary. Same thing for US waste domestically. When you realize 6 mos, or a year and a half later that this agency is and was necessary, then what. The cost to restart some of these agencies, and the quality you lose in the agency for years, when you suddenly have to restart it will eliminate a lot of our savings for possibly a decade or more. Study then eliminate, not eliminate and wait for the results.

We’re running a $2T yearly deficit. Norway is running over a $200B surplus. Yet we are giving them hundreds of millions in aid for their immigrants 😂😂😂. We’re putting our kids in debt to help out rich countries. We should be outraged by a lot of this. We claim FEMA is out of money but continue to use FEMA funds to pay hotel bills in NYC for immigrants and then lie about it. It’s either corruption or malfeasance or just plain irresponsibility. Take your pick
