I really am enjoying all the cherry picking of reasons Tulsa shouldn't be in the tournament, so I thought I'd make a thread of my own really disingenuous team comparisons. Here's my first one for how we stack up against a certain 3 seed...

NCAA Team Comparison: Tulsa-3 Seed Team
Losses to teams not in the tournament: 5-5
Road Wins: 6-5
Road Losses: 5-5
SOS (Overall): 64-51
Top 50 RPI Wins: 4-5

I think this means that with one more top 50 win and we would have been at worst a 4 seed.

I'm using the CBS team comparison tool for ease of creating these, but am open to other criteria:

NCAA Team Comparison: Tulsa - 5 Seed
Total Losses: 11 - 11
Road Wins: 6 - 5
Road Losses: 5 - 5
Home Losses: 3 - 5
Top 50 Win %: 44.40% - 31.25%

Good job Sax, glad to see you posting again! We need to put these comparisons out where the general population can see them.

Thanks, been on an assignment for the last couple years that kind of takes up a lot of my time. However, I'll be off pretty much all of March now, so I'd say it has worked out nicely for the next couple weeks.

By the way, doing this exercise against other bubble teams is like shooting fish in a barrel. I almost feel bad comparing us to a team that didn't make it and that I hold no ill will against...almost:

NCAA Team Comparison: Tulsa - Monmouth
SOS: 64 - 166
Top 50: Wins: 4 - 1
Top 100 Wins: 8 - 3
Terrible (RPI 200+) Losses: 0 - 3
Top 100 Win %: 50% - 42.9%

Yeah, but their bench can perform Broadway plays while the game is in progress. That should have gotten them in. I bet Gottleib knew that.

I've been saying our resume was better than Michigan for 2 weeks. But to be fair, we should state we also lost 2 games, as well as won 2 games, against those common opponents.

Someone needs to post this on all the ESPN boards and their email and send to all those "pundits". Perhaps one of them will actually look at it and issue a retraction.

Only thing really missing is the tie breaker in Monmouth's favor: "Team with the most entertaining bench to show on TV" as told to us by at least 6 different experts from ESPN. I almost forgot that this isn't a basketball tournament but rather just entertainment....

Oh oops, I think I meant to delete that column...

What's the overall SOS of both teams? Seems more relevant to resume than limiting to games played in November/December.

Michigan - 45 Tulsa - 64 Pretty close

I think his point was that the pundits pick and choose the metrics that support their position and ignore those that don't.

Where Castiglione went on and defended the exact points that put TU in the field vs the guys who didn't. Top 50 wins. It's a also a moving target as each committee places importance in different things.
