too bad the cheater has returned to coach pony. Should have been banned all season.

I've seen no fun signs thus far for Brown, or the traitor Shake.

It was. Shake Milton is a beast. Would have been Tulsa's #2 player for sure. I wish we had him.

SMU is solid. Top 10 team for sure. No real weakness.

he is awesome. However you have to guard him. Backup point guard starting 2 for top 10 team

Shake is a real good kid. OU seemed to be the clear favorite until Larry swooped in...

I don't think anything illegal happened. Shake has aspirations to work in the NBA front office. Larry convinced him that, with his contacts, he could get him there. That's probably true.

However, it's too bad he signed with Larry Brown. While he's a phenomenal coach, he's as dirty as they come. I'm ready for ESPN's 30 for 30 on him ("Dirty Larry").

Twinkle twinkle little star for the half time entertainment. TU really knows how to get the fans into it

If we could shoot FTs like an average college team & avoid stupid turnovers, we'd be ahead. Refs let us bump them a lot in the 1st half, I bet that will change in 2nd half.

Free throw shooting will undoubtedly cost this team their goals for this season.

Hopefully, the new recruits will provide a lift in this category.

Yup working front office for lakers. Aspirations of Pritchard like career . However TU was out of it before then I suspect

We are the worst team I've ever seen shoot FTs. Had a chance for 4 pts without the clock changing and we make ONE of them.

Im ready for these guys to graduate.

The terrible shooting...the free throws...the dumb shot selection...

The only guy Im gonna miss is Woodard. Everyone else has been a disappointment.

Woodard is the only BB player on the team. The rest are role players on a good day. Anyone who can't hit FTs in the 70% range better be 7'0 plus or shouldn't play the game. Ridiculous.

I know a guy who intentionally shot the ball at the foul line with one hand. Why? Because he wanted to show the "fools" that anyone could and should hit FTs (they are FREE for a reason). BTW: He shot 95% from the line over his HS and DIII career. Was too short and slow to play D1.

Birt is shooting 32% from the field overall. As of now...he's not the answer. Would rather see Taplin and play small depending on the matchup.

I got roasted when he signed for suggesting someone who shot 42% from the field in Juco ball was the answer to our shooting woes as so many on here were claiming. He's still adjusting to the speed and size and D1 players and will get better but I'm not sure he'll ever be that shooter that many had hoped.

32% isn't solid...since I think 4 of them were against Central Arkansas. He didn't seem like he could handle this game.

I agree the Pat Birt didn't lose this game. In reality, he had little to do with this game (truly unfortunate).

SMU is a way way better team. In all aspects, including coaching.

Pat Birt can at least hit some FTs.

We didn't lose this game bc of one player.

Agree. Don't think it's fair to blame this loss in a guy who had four shots. SMU is better...period. Like I said above, Birt will get better as he adjusts. Hopefully we see the improvement this year. I think he starts next season btw.

If SMU can shoot 67% on 3 pointers each game, they will go undefeated. They are a good team, but playing smart defense against them would be helpful. How many wide open 3 pointers do we need to give Milton before we figure out he will hit them....he hit 7 in a row.

We play hard, but not smart. I don't know whether to blame Haith or the players for that.

Birt has some skills but shooting will be a problem unless he corrects his shooting. The ball has a side spin and his follow through motion looks rushed. I just believe he will be an average at best shooter and certainly not what we needed this year.

I agree that he has a very odd looking shot. I made this comment during the exhibition season, and Bill Lowery posted some of his high school videos. His shot definitely has changed. He will be a streaky spot shooter at best.

There was a situation in the second half where Birt was WIDE open for a three...he asked for the ball from Woodard...Woodard shook his head "NO". Interesting...but, I don't blame James.

Good post Fanzz....Milton was wide open for 5 of those 7 threes and we were sagging to help inside. Either our players have reverted to a Wojcik defense or our coaches did not know who that was that was making all those shots and just dared him to shoot.

The salt is strong with this forum.

Good game. Glad we came out with the win. Tulsa is a very talented squad and has the best back court in the league other than our own. Best of luck the rest of the season. See ya at Moody.

I keep reading a lot of insinuations that it's just not possible for SMU to out-recruit another school for a highly skilled kid and that they must have paid him off just to play hoops. I was wondering if y'all could help me remember who's coaching Tulsa these days. Is it this guy?

I can't remember; I get a little absent-minded about such things.

If you've ever spent two seconds on the SMU campus compared to Tulsa you wouldn't wonder how a kid could pick SMU.

Tulsa has a beautiful campus...I would argue it's nicer than SMU's. However, regarding the surrounding area of both campuses...It's no contest...SMU is in the richest part of Dallas.

I've spent a bunch of time in both areas.

The insinuations regarding "shady" activity on this board (and probably any other board in this country) are related to Larry Brown, not SMU. However, SMU's track record definitely doesn't help.

If I'm an SMU fan, I would soak up the Larry Brown era...as long as it lasts. It may cause some damage, but it also may result in one of the top teams in basketball many of the years he's on campus.

Shake wanted out of Oklahoma. As an 18 year old he saw this state as a go nowhere place. Brown made all the right promises and the rest is history. Dallas has a lot to offer a young kid, Norman not so much! This state ranks near the bottom in all categories except fishing, just ask Cody Green. We have great fishing lakes!

Shake could have been the next Shea Seals who could have also helped him get to the NBA.

Two things from this game...our defense is so worried about stopping the inside basket, it actually helps a good 3 or shooting team. We make it very difficult inside on a lot of teams, but if there is a good guard or big men with good court vision, it's going to beat our style of D every time. Which leads to the 2nd point. SMU is likely the best top to bottom passing team we will see all season. Everything was fluid. They didn't pass the ball around just to pass it around (which we often do). Every pass and cut had a distinct purpose and usually resulted in a wide open shot somewhere. Our first 2-3 possessions looked like that and then we reverted to "let Shaq drive and create".

FWIW, I'm guessing half of SMUs players would struggle to get accepted to OSU let alone good schools like TU and SMU. And I still think Frazier should have forfeited all remaining NCAA eligibility for what happened. Go play NAIA (not that I thought he was any good anyway).
