Scott Sutton Fired

He found out on Twitter. They told players before him.

I've wondered for a few years when they would finally decide to try some else.

Also, some scuttlebutt that new president wouldn't let him sign players with tattoos. I know one coach who won't recruit anyone with tattoos. He turns his paperwork in on time and can't damage their floor anymore than they already have. He knows the "southwest effing Tulsa" market very well.

But he uses too many four letter words.

Is Gottlieb applying again for this job too??? He saw what Self did after ORU.......

If they were so glorious as to hire him I would be going to the store for popcorn.

His son has picked up 2 offers and only a sophomore. I pity the HC of the school he signs with. I wonder if someone will hire Doug to get his son? Lol

Heirman probably saved some other coaches ass by getting handpicked by papa Wojcik. I'm hoping Heirman figured out how to handle Wojcik in his playing days.

I wonder if Sean/Scott will be limited in which coaching job they take by the distance they are away from Eddie? If they weren't then I would think he would land a heck of a lot better job than ORU. He may end up writing the ORU administration a thank you note for firing him.

I think this is spot on! Obviously, he is very committed to his family and is incredibly loyal, two qualities that are rare and incredibly admirable. I wish him well and now there is absolutely no reason have any respect for those folks at 81st and Lewis.

You have to be a professed Christian as well, looks like that stipulation went into play when Wilson became president in 2013 (Haisten/4/11TW). Tulsa would do well to quit playing this professed university in men's basketball, they will always be an RPI killer from this point on.

That's not true...it's always been a part of the application process for every student entering. Coaches are just now being asked to ensure this whereas before there may have been some wiggle room and other admin realized it was an opportunity to minister to those who weren't as strong in their faith.

So what you're saying is it's totally true?

If it is indeed true that Sutton found out about it from other people and not the President or AD, then that is a total disgrace. That is not how you treat people, especially when it comes to a class man like Scott Sutton. Be a man and talk to him. Christians, of all people, need to act like Christians. They also need to admit when they are wrong.

Firing a person is up to that organization. That is their business. But how you do it speaks volumes.

Everyone else who knows anything disagrees and your own statement above seems to contradict your premise as well.

+1 ... With the positive changes occurring in the AAC and the dumpster fire at 81st and Lewis, IMO now is the ideal time for TU to re-evaluate the value of playing ORU.

The game is no longer an attractive draw for the city, attendance has been declining for years, and MORE importantly there are 100-150 RPI killers TU can schedule that don't bring the emotional "game of the year" baggage of ORU. Plus other RPI killers TU could schedule would not be in a position to ask for a home/home series. Also, you can't overlook the absurd behavior from the ORU students the last 2 times TU has played at the Mabee Center. At the very least, IMO TU needs to start evaluating ORU as they would any other school from a perennial 1-bid league. Let's face-it, ORU needs TU on their schedule MUCH more than TU needs ORU on their schedule. Giving ORU a game on their campus every other year is pure charity. The charily needs to stop!

I would be 100% in favor of suspending the series until ORU agrees to more favorable terms or becomes a more valuable opponent.

I honestly do not see anything wrong ending an OOC rivalry when the opponent brings absolutely NOTHING to the table!

So who do they hire? I saw someone mention Gottfried, but I doubt he would even take their call given the alleged budget issues.

A lot of possible names probably make more than what they will pay as assistants. I would look at Steve Woodberry, but I think he's one of those.

Wojcik honestly would fit the profile of no tattoos, but he wouldn't go there and hates Tulsa.

Ben Braun? Has done OK everywhere. Obviously can't recruit most Arab kids. Doubt he would have interest or that they would put up with him.

Buzz Peterson?

James Dickey? I think he would be a homerun, but I don't think they will touch anyone from OSU. Same reason Gottlieb won't get s look or talk to them.

Norm Roberts? I think he has the Steve Robinson career assistant gig down pat.

Terry Evans?

Willis Wilson? Now at Texas A&M CC. They are ok. I doubt he would leave or that they would pay.

It will probably be someone with a Christian affiliated school background. I think they should keep their mind open though.

You know who I would look at if I were ORU? Shea Seals.

I thought about that one. Why would he go there? Sounds like a dead end gig. And if he did well there, we would hire him back faster than Voice at a taco eating contest.

Shea has some recent baggage that probably would disqualify him from ORU. But I think that would be a good starting point for Shea as a head coach. It would likely cement the continuation of the series with TU as well, which is something that ORU needs. But, ugh, those trips to the Dakotas.

A couple winning seasons and losing your coach is better than never having a winning coach in the first place. I think it would be a perfect gig for Shea. He's got the local area connections to really grab the diamonds in the rough that ORU is used to recruiting. He wouldn't cost the admin much, he's already in town, he's a good family man by all accounts, and he's got coaching experience at multiple levels.

I think it would be a win-win, and if Shea did well, he could use it as a springboard to a bigger, better job.

If ORU got their :crap:e together, they would see the quality guy that Seals is and give him a reprieve for past transgressions. He'd be a great choice for them.

He has a grand total of two years experience in recruiting. I love the guy, but come on. Phillips had more D1 experience at other schools before he came to TU.

We're not talking about TU.

Seals has roughly the same amount of experience as did Barry Hinson when he took over the ORU gig back in 1997. Hinson did pretty well by ORU standards. At least well enough to move on from the Summit to the MVC.

Hinson had Self's players. And no recruiting conditions about tattoos and already being born again, again.
