🏀 News/Notes Rachal 2nd-team All-AAC, Jackson Sixth Man of the Year

FORT WORTH, Texas –– After leading the American Athletic Conference in field goal percentage this season, senior guard Darien Jackson was named The American's Sixth Man of the Year, it was announced today.

Senior guard Brandon Rachal was named AAC second team all-conference after averaging 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds a game during the season. He has now earned all-conference honors in each of his two seasons at Tulsa as he received third team accolades a year ago.

Jackson, who has come off the bench in 20 of 22 contests this season, shares the sixth man award with Memphis's Boogie Ellis.

The Overland Park, Kan. native scored in double-figures eight times this season, putting in his season-high 13 points against UCF on March 2. He shot over 50-percent in 19 games, while leading the Hurricane in steals and rebounds 11 times and for assists 5 times.

Rachal led the Hurricane on the offensive and defensive end, topping TU's statistical categories for points, rebounds, blocks and steals. During the season, he recorded six double-doubles with the most recent coming against Cincinnati on Feb. 24, when he put in 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Natchitoches, La. native recorded a season-high 25 points in Tulsa's first meeting with Cincinnati on Jan. 2. He has led TU in rebounding and scoring 11 times each and has paced the Hurricane for blocks 10 times.

The 6'6" guard was named the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week and American Athletic Conference Player of the week after averaging 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins against then No. 5 Houston Cougars and on the road at Cincinnati.

Tulsa opens play in the American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon with a first round matchup against the #10 seeded Tulane Green Wave at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
