Question for next year

Watching the Memphis WState game and hearing about both teams recruits for next year. Got me thinking about next year and who, other than Igbanu, can we look to for points? Horne, Jackson, Korita, Scott, Joiner? Seems like next year we will have a lot of solid role players but that ain't going to cut the mustard in this league. I really worry about our guard play for next year .

Possibilities: Horne, Isaiah Hill, and it would be nice if Joiner wasn't stuck at PG again next year. I also think Moore could breakout, hopefully sooner rather than later. Then there's the Western Michigan transfer who is sitting out.

George the Greek has also gotten some positive play from those that have seen him on the court.

Barnes. In the last 2-3 games I’ve seen him it’s clear he has some game in him, he just needs to play under control and play within the team concept. I like his intensity and his in the ball defense was pretty good

Sure wish we could have landed at least one of those two bigs we lost to K State. Position of need next year.

Joiner needs to get some distance from the point. It has affected his scoring game. He shoots 44% from the three. Let him shoot. Joiner would be a 9-11 PPG guy at the two. I think Hill will be the instant PG, a possible four year starter pushed to the two only by a Thompson. Barnes may develop nicely in a couple of years. He has a great size and rebounding ability but was not ready as a Freshman. Jones could be the wild card. George is a really good back up point. I would gladly have him in that position for several years.

Very depressing thread

Yes....Some of the realities going forward do not portend an improved
team over the next two or three years:

!) As of right now, we will lose more (Taplin, Jeffries) off this year's team
than we gain from our recruiting class and development from our returning
players......Our backup guards for next season (Moore, Barnes, Jackson)
all have significant shortfalls, and only Moore has shown any ability to
score....Development into being a contributor by any of the three would
be a blessing, but would still leave a couple of 'dead' roster spots....

2) We lose our best rebounder/defender on the inside in Jeffries, and
there is no known replacement....Horne could be, but he is having to play
more five than four, because Falocun's development seems to have
stalled, and there are no other options behind Igbanu....

3) If we take a hard look at the things that seem to continually limit this
year's team, in a nutshell they are ball handling/passing (turnovers), and
being out rebounded by almost everyone we play.....Hill will help with the
ball handling, but only Joiner among the returning guards shows real
promise in this regard......Rebounding?..... Ouch!!

This year's team plays really hard, and certainly has it's heartening
moments.....If we are to be significantly improved next year, we need to
sign a couple more really good players.....

I'll wait till End of Season to make assessment of player development for next year, and see who transfers. And I'll also wait to see who we add to Hill for incoming players.

Most of our underclassmen are transfers who have already redshirted. Any of them transfer again they only have one year to play.

My view is that TU needs a Juco big, and a freshman big. Hopefully the transfer sitting out will provide the shooting guard.

That's really sticking your neck out...!!!!

Yes, we really do.....Our recruiting seems to have reverted to transfers,
Jucos, and off-the-board prospects....If you take an honest look at the
2018 recruiting class, only Horne (he was actually a 2017 redshirt
recruit) has shown the ability to play D-1 basketball.....Of the 2018
recruits eligible to play (Barnes, Moore, Falocun, and Hewitt) none have
shown the ability to play both ends of the floor, and have seen very little
court time....This hurts us now, and will hurt us in the future....We are
going to have too many 'dead' spots on our team, and apparently, we
will be short on contributing guards, wings, and bigs.....

To say that our recruiting lacks something, is the understatement of the
year.....When was the last time we won a recruiting battle for anyone,
or against anyone??

Great win tonight....It shoudn't have come down to a last shot, but Scott
made a great release, and found nothing but net!! Big time thrill!!

With Falokun I believe you will be taking that remark back before his career is over. I'm thinking maybe with one or two of the others as well.

Falokun looked really good in preseason scrimmages. He looks lost out there now. Moore the same. Barnes is the one where I see some growth. He is a great rebounder for a guard.

I would tell Folokun to focus on his defense and redbounding and never ever dribble the ball or take a shot other than a dunk or layup.

Once he has the rest figured out he can turn to those post moves.

I wanted to see more out of him. He looks the part. Sucks for him after he sat out. Wish him all the best. I think he can be a really solid player.

He looks lost out there though. That helps simplify the rotation. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another.
