ORU game thread

I also think there is the LeBron effect. People aren't as loyal to one team anymore. People run to the next big thing. Who would have thought the Cubs and Golden State would become popular? Unless TU has a guy on those Top 10 plays every night, why go? And only go if it doesn't conflict with the other flavor of the month on tv.
.

Cubs are not surprising... WGN made them a household name long ago... them and the braves could be watched in any city in the USA almost every day in ball season..
Look at how many fans they draw on the road...

As for TU... a return to fast break games with show time and 100 point scores would draw more fans but likely come up short at tourney time.

Eh. It was different this year with the sCrubs.

People wouldn't showed up if they didn't perceive our team as good. They would just all say we don't play enough defense.

If / when the Thunder lose RW that's when the fans should start showing up again.

I keep wondering how all the OKC oil companies have enough $$$ to keep propping up the Thunder....

With the OKC unemployment rate climbing and a general economic slowdown in Oklahoma, it will be interesting to see how long they keep the arena full.

Tulsa billionaire George Kaiser owns Aubrey McClendon(Chesapeake) part of the Thunder something like 30% I think.

GO TU!!!!

I don't think this is news, but a source close to the ORU AD told me that Haith does not want to play ORU period, not even at the Reynolds Center. I replied that no TU coach ever wanted to play ORU.

I'm not surprised. I'd like to know what the deal is. I heard Wojcik's explanation a couple of times and he managed to yell his way out of playing them one year. I could tell Haith was mad at some things the other night, at one point calling out the clock operator or someone like that. He's usually pretty mellow, so I'd like to know that one, too. Or maybe he's pissed about how the Jeffries transfer was handled.

I don't buy that. I don't recall Nolan having an issue with the game. Nor Tubby. Nor Manning.

Seems to me like Haith has gotten his undergarments in a bunch. I'd imagine that has to do with losing this game his first two years. My guess is that if he were 3-0 against ORU, he'd see it differently.

To Gold's question about the clock...it was a simple error. Didn't affect the game/play. Yet, he lashed out at the scoreboard operator, repeatedly. Couple that with his timeout call with 30 seconds left (up 17 points) and his demeanor after the game, he came across very poorly.

All that said, I'm kinda over the Mayor's Cup thing. If TU wants to play it...fine. If they want to cancel it...that's fine too (after the current PSO sponsorship expires). You guys can replace us on your schedule with Lamar! ;)

I think Nolan took the series the most serious...because ORU, at that time, had a really good program.

To voice's point, I don't think any other coaches really had a problem with it. However, they weren't too excited about it.

I remember Self saying at a call-in show that, as the ORU coach, he really looked forward to it...but, has a TU coach, he was always "happy when it was over".

I haven't heard Haith talk about the ORU game...I haven't spent much time with him.

Wojcik, for sure, hated playing ORU. He made it known to everyone that would listen. I don't know if he would have successfully ended the series, but he was definitely planning on minimizing the recurrence of the game.

That's the thing. It must have been bad. He's one of the nicest, kindest people you will ever meet in basketball. He is not what I was expecting. For him to get mad, it must have been screwed up. My guess is he thought they were trying to in"ice" Igbanu.

Then again, you thought Wojcik was a cool guy. But even more again, you went to ORU, so it's not like you are exempt from snake charmers.:D

That will probably be the first and last time anybody composes a sentence with Wojcik and snake charmer in it.

Wojcik was a decent fellow. At least, he was always cordial to me...

I like having an extra game that is easy to attend every other year. That is the extent of it.

No, Wojick was a jerk. Would not reply or acknowledge me in the Vegas hotel wearing TU gear when I wished him luck in the tournament. His tirades at Charleston also happened here, we learned after the fact.

You have to really, really try to be THAT big of a butthole. But somehow it just came naturally to him. If I were a shrink/professor, I'd write volumes about him. Probably get chair before I was 45.
