I told my brother in law how happy I was TU beat Penny on his new contract day. I got a lecture about how Penny was standing up to the man or something. I asked if he had watched many Memphis games and he didn’t know we beat them by 40, that Penny runs a useless press, or that they weren’t even close to winning the league last year (and that we did). Nice guy though.
He did watch the TCU game with me and asked if I actually liked our team. I had to explain that’s not how it works.
Haywood 6-32 now from the three this year. Can anyone be worse in TU history and still get 20 minutes a game and start every game? Pastner benched him permanently after similar stats at Georgia Tech. This gives opponents 4-5 points a game on our empty possessions.
I keep waiting for him to become Scottie Haralson, but he’s like a skinny Seneca Collins.
If Haywood doubles his 3pt % he’ll be roughly equal to Collins’ career 3pt%. He’s trying to “shoot out of it” I guess, but at a certain point this just might be what kind of shooter you are
The official who just called a foul on Williams is a piece of work. That was iffy. Williams is stretching his leg and then the official bumps into him, like he thinks Williams is going to say something. Get that clown out of here.
Urbancic is the real deal. I have been wanting to see more out of him. Only 17 years old. He plays good defense and rebounds well. Not one dimension.
If he got it there might be an asterisk. Lol. But he might be the next player after Eric Coley to get one.
Looks like we’re gonna see a little Alcime. I think Gendron needs a look during a tougher environment, he’s got a good looking shot.
Gendron, Richie and Urbancic have perfect releases on the ball. KES does sometimes.
I think our freshmen and walk ons could have given these guys a good game.
Our bench warmers can play a little bit! I know the competition but have seen plenty of guys give sloppy mop up minutes before. Kudos.
I know it’s weak competition but Alcime had 5 points and 2 boards in two minutes. That’s 100 points and 40 boards in 40 minutes, Chamberlinesque.
I got the impression Alcime doesn’t play like that in practice. I don’t think I’ve seen our bench erupt like that since Keita.
How much will Tulsa be favored at home against number 6 Houston.

Williams and Schumate are going to be great to have. Williams is becoming very stoic at the point, the game is slowing down for him and he has some great decision making skills. Outside shot is strong, pull up is stronger, and his drive is pretty good. A little time in the weight room so he can handle the contact and his great touch will make him a vicious finisher. He's a bit light in the pants right now for big guards and posts.
Gendron is his daddy's type of player. Next year or two we will have a sniper. Because Haith loves the zone Gendron is going to be a Korita who will be dangerous from the outside and consistent.
Urbancic is smooth, I wonder if he'll begin to adjust enough at this level to give us some spot minutes, his shooting motion is a bit long but his release is quick and his size means it shouldn't be an issue. At 17 he could still grow and will only get more developed in speed and strength with the strength coach, while I thought Schumate was the steal of the year, this kid may actually be it.
Haywood needs to be told only dunks, period.
Otherwise I like what we did getting everyone on track. Ugboh looked good going left and right. Even five or six points out of him will be a nice add and make him a competent post when we want some defensive work. Idowu is smooth as silk right now with those turn around, if he can tighten up his defense just a bit they will both be solid enough even in their weaker areas to be very serviceable post players. Early looks like he is continuing to make progress and can hopefully get up to a ten minute a game or so to give us just enough post depth to slide by. Richie should be starting. Williams ability to play off the ball or control the game from point reminds me of some of the better combo guards in our past and brings a lot of versatility off the bench for the back court.
