I have to go with the Arkansas game at the civic center. Sellout crowd and during the last few minutes of regulation fans from both sides were on their feet yelling as loud as they could.
I saw them all. The most excited I ever saw a pre-game atmosphere and an in-game atmosphere was the 1982 CBS Wichita State game. Agree with Babe here. People in the lobby were holding fingers up and screaming to buy tickets from anybody. Unicycles hit the court and the rubber chicken saw action along with T.....U.....L.....S......A.... It was truly a circus atmosphere with Paul Pressey and crew ready for Billy Packer and CBS.
The problem it not the players...it's the coaches, and their ridiculous substitution pattern. Why are starters substituted in mass 2 to 3 minutes into the game. If they are starters, then (assuming Haith knows the best players should start) they should be our best players, and if they are our best players, then why not give them a chance to play to win. Some of our starters never get a chance to get it going because they are in the game...then out of the game, then back in...and can never get a feel for the game. Haith and his staff are clueless about how to manage a game. They make very few game adjustments. We are headed for another losing season...and it's not the players', it's Haith and his ridiculous substitution pattern.
'Chicken or Egg' argument. If WSU was not winning they would not have a packed hose. Not ticket prices, we are giving them away at $5.00 or even free with fb ticket. You must put something on the floor that is entertaining. This is not about the fans, it is about the program!
Idk man... Tulsa has to take some responsibility here with the horrible lack of support. I get what you’re saying about the program, but unless we had back to back to back sweet 16 runs over a three year period, I think we’d see 4K in the Reynolds Center no matter what. Which is ridiculous for a city this size.
True story regarding Wichita State, and 95% of all other programs.
I went to a few games prior to the Turgeon era. Their attendance was horrid. The 90's and early 2000's were really tough for the ole Shockers.
As we all know, consistent winning cures most of the attendance problems.
