The bottom line - We're about a 165-170 RPI team. We are VERY easy to assess through 8 games.

Looks like we’re on our way to another underwhelming basketball season.... this is starting to get old.
We have talent, buts it’s just not coming together. The blame will eventually have to fall on someone because we’re just not getting it done.
It’s especially tough when both football and basketball suck ass in the same year.

I’m just a lurker, but I was impressed with several of your players when you played Iowa State. Illinois St is better than their record, but imo you’re certainly talented enough to beat them.
Good luck getting things turned around.
We have better talent than is being exhibited on the basketball court.

Tulsa will be good again... just need a change at the top again. Haith was a crap hire. Thought he would be awesome. That sucks but nothing that a change this offseason can't fix.

Out rebounded them by 20 but had 21 turnovers. Kind of feels like football, it's a whack-a-mole, one thing gets better and another gets worse. We're the team that can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
I tried really hard to be positive after Lamar-gate but man, this is just an awful year for major TU sports.
Maybe the first time I've agreed with Pats on anything.
Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by today's result. I actually do believe there is a good deal of talent on this team. They are not receiving the proper coaching or motivation. That's why we're losing to teams like Lamar and Illinois State.
TU is going to be stripped naked by half of the teams in the AAC. The saving grace is that the other half appears the be just as mediocre as we are.
Frank Haith is a very likeable fellow but he's just not getting the job done for TU.

TU could have the greatest coach in the world but currently the results would be the same recruiting wise. Tulsa's team is playing before empty seats in the arena. Kids want to play in a full house. Look at WSU full arena resulting in good recruiting and yes it does help to have a good coach. Tulsa used to play before a mostly full house of fans. Then Tulsa had better recruiting mostly. That's been a while. You must have decent crowds before recruiting will pick up and Tulsa won't win until recruiting gets better. TU is in a catch 22. Why are crowds so poor? Tulsa isn't competitive in the local entertainment market. Ticket prices are too high and too many fees to inflate ticket prices. Results in empty arena's and stadium's. A new coach wouldn't help either. Until Tulsa's non-competitiveness in the local entertainment ticket market is solved recruiting and the number of wins per season will stay the same. Everything starts with butts in seats. With butts in seats then Tulsa can begin to rebuild the right way.

This whole staff coaches like it is junior high. Simple offense and takes out players for every mistake. Cuirrin Scott made a few mistakes and he was playing around 2 minutes at a time. We need to get rid of the whole staff and that includes Shea who has done nothing for the program. Talent is fair to good but the coaching is TERRIBLE.
I watched the first 5 minutes of the game and turned it off. I can't remember a time, even during the Jim King Years of Misery, when I was less excited to view a game. Of course, King gave us 8 win seasons and that misery was mitigated by my nursing student girlfriend at the time. Today my wife asks, "why are you wasting your time watching this?"

As rough Football was to watch (woefully bad play and coaching), so far... what I am seeing in Tulsa BB (and physically watching Haith on the sidelines yesterday), Tulsa BB is heading to rock bottom again --- the quick subs and completely random sub patterns provide 0 flow to the game --- anyone in a flow gets yanked and those finding that flow get yanked. Haith is Overreacting when he should be more cool and Underreacting when he should be more hot.
He's lost. Haith is utterly lost on the sidelines (and on the recruiting trail). The evidence is overwhelming. I'd fire him now. Tulsa won't of course -- probably because it can't. But, any other program would fire the HC at this stage and based on the results so far and the lack of talent coming in to be competitive (let alone win) the AAC.

And I would keep Joiner and Igbanu after this year... everyone else is expendable (perhaps Jackson can play, I don't know). A "redo" is needed once again.

This has been pointed out MANY times... and while the issue could be caused in part by ticket prices, scheduling, and so on, it really falls down in the community (and the AD who is responsible for connecting the university to the community). While WSU has been great, you can’t say that they’ve had a better schedule than us. Their fans come out and support them regardless of who they’re playing because they’re excited to see WSU... TU “fans” only come to big name opponent games because they dgaf about TU outside of the few times per year that a name opponent comes in.
And that’s the issue... TU is only supported by Tulsa when it’s convenient for Tulsans. There is zero city pride and zero commitment to TU from the city of Tulsa and its citizens. Look at other city schools around the conference and around the country - their communities support their teams. They are treated like big time programs by their local media and it flows through the community. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen here in Tulsa. All of the local media (TV and print) make sure TU is always 3rd fiddle... so of course the average sports fan is going to feel the same way.
TUs issues are multifaceted, but the overall perception of our athletic programs are a major contributor to our attendance issues... which absolutely plays a role in recruiting in both football and basketball.
Unfortunately there aren’t many positives coming out of TU athletics lately.
Win games consistently and people will start coming more and more. I dont care what team you are. People aren't going to show up losing to teams like Illinois st twice and Lamar. We win a big game, and then lose games we shouldnt. People want to go to games of teams that they can count on to play their best and are always going to win those games they should. Get back to being that team that no major conference team wants to face and we will see better attendance. Just my opinion
I agree and disagree... I would like to think you’re right but I’ll always remember the game after beating notre dame when we drew 17k at home... winning helps but there’s WAY more too it than that.
The bandwagon fans in Tulsa don't start coming round till you've been winning for three or four season's in a row, which will probably never happen. When we get a coach like Self or his equivalent in football, we must succeed in keeping him around for at least 6 or 8 years, which is a tall order.
If Montgomery shows that last year was just a bump in the road, we either have to get him to stick around for another couple of three years, or sign a new coach that doesn't skip a beat.(Ex. Fuente/Norvell) We have never had a Tubby/Self or Graham/Montgomery hiring sequence. We always screw up with Phillips/Blankenship.

Our small alumni base demands that we make two or three good hirings in a row. Unlike UCF that can tail off towards the end with O'Leary, unlike Houston with Levine, we don't have the fan base to make a mistake. We have to have two or three in a row to build that fanbase with our alumni deficit/tulsa bandwagon nightmare.

I agree. That was disappointing. But I think a big factor in that was we were 4-3 I believe before that game. If we were undefeated or had 1 loss and then beat them, I think we would of seen better attendance. I just think there's too much inconsistency for the casual fan to trust spending time and money to go to games when they aren't sure what kind of product they will see.
I'm younger then most on here. I only started going to games in 2003 when my dad took me toy first one. So I'm not sure how it used to work back in the day. Just makes sense to me that wins would result in better attendance
That would be a good assessment if this was golf or bowling or tennis. Basketball is a team sport. Your individual talent doesn’t matter your talent inside the team is what matters
