Official HC Speculation Thread

I’m just saying you are wrong about how high TU will go. This isn’t your big brother’s admin anymore and quite frankly the president has more power than ever before. If they need to go up to $2.5 to get Kinne, they will. Now, whether that would be enough to make him jump, I don’t know.
And you have that from good sources? Aa well, you aren't taking his buyout into the equation.

If he has one.
Why would they offer him that big of a raise without a buyout. That doesn't even make sense. And there is no way they would give him an escape clause for TU. That was their most immediate worry. That's dreamland to think there isn't a buyout.

Is he our best choice thought? That is the bigger question. I am going to assume that our new AD has his own ideas and will not fixate on hiring a former player. Not that he would rule somebody out for that reason, but that he would give that factor a pretty low weight.

Being a former player gives us a better in with them, not just the familiarity factor. They are really good candidates as far as I can tell. This is unlike past candidates that were floated out there that had local ties, in my opinion. My fear is that Moore will go with familiar ties to himself, without considering the two candidates equally that we have local ties with. He is already considering two that he has ties to.

He needs to consider his ties, our ties, recommendations from outside, and give them all equal credence, to do a good search IMO.

Contracts are negotiated, not one side dictating to the other. I would think having an out either outright or in a discount is pretty common for coaching. Considering other coaches have had them in the past and used them.

We were far from the only threat, Kinne is going to be a hot commodity in two/three years regardless where he is at.

I remember why I rarely post over here. The same people who know zero nay saying everything. First it was their NIL money, then his salary, now his buy out. All pure speculation, meanwhile out AD is talking about NIL money and positioning the programs in this volatile era. Which by necessity is about money and willingness.

We're at a crossroads here and it seems the schools leadership and supporters/donors know that. Not sure there are a lot of restrictions being set, which matches previous efforts in similar situations like the offer made to Bill Self. Doesn't mean it will work, it didn't with Self but they are putting together an effort to get the best possible guy here. If thats Kinne, Texas St is not going to be an issue, not the pay, not the buy out, not the NIL

How funny. You don't have a clue, and are speculating just as much as anybody on here.

If he wouldn’t accept a buyout clause two years ago do you think he’ll suddenly accept one now?

I don't get all the unabated GJ love on here. He's 6-5 currently and 4-3 conference. It's typical for message boards to post only names that people recognize and are familiar with. This search will occur nationally, and my guess is it will be a bunch of names never mentioned here.

You are probably right about the selection not being in the listings posted here; at least until near the close of the process when leaks occur.

If we hire a name no one is familiar with and if next year starts slow we will hear “Why didn’t we get (Fill in the blank)…”, if we hire an Alum and the same scenario occurs then “why do we only look at Alums”.

There will be complaints whether we get an up and coming but (unproven) coordinator, an Alum, a retread or coach from a lower division (doesn’t know what it takes to win at the FBS level).

I will support the hire until on field performance or off field incidences dictate otherwise but will give them at least two years to see progression.

It’s a matter of perspective Considering the coach prior to GJ went 13-35 the turnaround under GJ is impressive imo

Naw just a couple special posters on here who continually start stuff with everyone.

I can't fly a plane so there is at least one person on here smarter than me.
Pull back, trees get smaller. Push forward, trees get bigger. Throttle forward, go fast. Throttle back, go slow. Now we're equal.

Also I was just joking around, per normal.

I sure hope this isn’t true. Spavital was fired after 4 losing seasons at Texas State. Kinne replaced him & turned things around. Also, have we ever hired assistant coaches from peer schools, like North Texas & Tulane?

This is a very low aiming, save money, inexpensive list. That wouldn’t at all match what TU has said they’re looking for.

I'll be traveling for the Thanksgiving Holiday -- going to let the Southwest pilots know I'm capable of flying. Will report back if they let me give it a try :)

Codie, please make sure your flight path doesn’t come over my house because my house and I are SOFT. Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

Well, you’re wrong. I get a kick out of people that speak in absolutes without having facts. It’s a good guess on your part, but it’s wrong.
Absolutely going to assume you don't have a reliable source since the conversation ended there.

And even if you did, it would be the first one that I've heard about, that said we would go as high as 2.5m. So I'll take it with a little more respect than a grain of salt.

As well as the fact that other salaries are involved, a buyout is involved, (not even including Wilson's buyout with which we are saddled) and oh yeah that Nil thing is a factor. And one thing we agree upon, 500k might not be enough to pull him away. I said 500k or more. He might want more than that, to leave a good situation at Texas St. I'll say it again, I don't think he will even get to the interview stage, much less an offer, after they talk about all of that in preliminary conversations. If I'm wrong then mea culpa, but I don't think so.

Kinne and Marion are better than every name on that top list. This hire should be a no brainer. At no point have we had this level of talent to pool from our alumni base.

That is rumor only, and lately has been batted down on the board. I don't take a rumor to be proof that he doesn't have a buyout clause now. Why on earth would they give him more money with no insurance that he doesn't leave without them being compensated. They might as well just bump him up to 1.3 or 1.5 to say thank you, and bend over. A salary x2 gives them the right to demand a buyout, if they didn't already have one.

Pilot “Do you know how to really fly an airplane?

Passenger “No. But I did put MSFS 2024 on my XBox and landed a 737 MAX at Saba without crashing….and I was using a controller! Does that count?”

I doubt TU will select a coach like Switzer but he’ll be a HC in the near future. Here’s a nice article about him. I recently watched some videos of him returning punts and kickoffs in the NFL (most while at Dallas). He could fly. It would be nice to team him up with Kinne and Marion. I doubt too many coaching staffs could beat them in a game of flag football.

UNC football legend Ryan Switzer named the interim head coach at Tulsa

The former Tar Heel has drastically moved his way up the coaching ranks, getting his first experience as a head coach.

Coaching changes are being made within the Tulsa football program.
Head coach Kevin Wilson, who is in just his second season with the program, is set to be relieved from his duties. The Golden Hurricanes have a disappointing 3-8 record heading into their final game of the 2024 season on November 30 against Florida Atlantic.

Now, you may be asking: why does this news affect the University of North Carolina in any way? Well, the guy who is going to be named the interim head coach is a former UNC football legend and a fan favorite in Chapel Hill.

Ryan Switzer is set to become the interim head coach for Tulsa, earning his first head coaching opportunity at the collegiate level. While this may be a temporary move, it will provide Switzer, who was serving as the team's wide receivers coach, the opportunity to lead the way on the sideline, at least for one game.
Back in August, Switzer was tabbed as one of the top 30 youngest coaches and rising stars in the college football realm. Here's what Chris Hummer of 247Sports had to say at the time about why Switzer earned a spot on the list:
"You probably remember Switzer from his time as a record-setting receiver or his multiple stints in the NFL. But Switzer joined Tulsa's coaching staff last offseason, and he's found a ton of success as a recruiter. The Golden Hurricanes signed arguably the best G-5 WR class in the country, including a trio of players rated 88 or better that all had multiple P-4 offers. Switzer also helped former walk-on Kamdyn Benjamin go from 18 yards in 2022 to leading the team with 727 (9th in the AAC)."

This is a testament to the impression Switzer has made during his time on the Tulsa football program's coaching staff, as who knows: maybe there's a chance this becomes a permanent gig once this all gets figured out.
Regardless of how it shapes up, Ryan Switzer continues to rise up the coaching ranks, and should earn plenty of opportunities down the road as he gains more experience (especially something like this interim role).

He was also 12-2 at Incarnate Word.

I'm not saying he's my top choice, as if my opinion matters :p, but he's still a massive upgrade over Wilson
Almost anyone is an upgrade from Wilson 😂 of course I thought the same thing about Monty
