New TW beat reporter. Again.

Not sure. Last byline on TU I saw the other day was John Tranchina, whom I believe had always been a stringer. So I just assumed he was filling in for someone on vacation. I know she wasn’t covering TU anymore, but I don’t think I’ve seen a Kelly Hines byline in a while.

Yep - looks like he’s only covering oru and hs sports now… safe unfollow (happy to unfollow him - in my opinion he sucked).

followed the new guy - hopefully he’s better.

Yea, that little pipsqueak didn't do squat. We need a consistent voice...I miss eric bailey and Kelly.

He also thinks Stokes is going to be the focal point of the WRs. I don't like this...this is what made Brin suspect last season and once Stokes went out, it freed up Johnson and Santana.

His decision making made him suspect. If Stokes is back and healthy, then we are that much better.

The INTs have to come down. The offense is designed for safe high percentage throws inexperienced high school passers can be trusted with. He’s got great talent. He’s just forcing it in there at times. Whether that’s him trying to win at all costs or he only had the green light to go one or two way each play I don’t know. As we’ve said before. We will know at half time of the third game if he’s been given the keys to the car.

Agree on the new guy. But, since time immemorial, it's all OU & OSU all the time. Today, for example, the TW wastes several column inches (& trees) on how wonderful Coach Gumby is feeling & how he never wants to retire. Huh?

I thought it would be good to revisit this topic again as with the hiring of Kevin Wilson the World had articles by Hines and Emig rather than Tranchina.

John popped a positive the day of the Wilson presser so Kelly filled in. I was surprised TW didn’t have anyone at yesterday’s basketball game. It’s the first time I’ve seen that for a home game in a while.

John has been great since he took over. He’s not the best on podcasts but his writing is always wonderful.

Not Tranchina related but apparently the Tulsa World let Guerin Emig go. A little shocking in that he's been there a long time and certainly longer than Tranchina and Kelly Hines so not your traditional downsizing. Emig was always hit or miss for me. There were times he wrote some excellent articles about TU and other topics, and there were times I felt he got possessed by Haisten and wrote an article that was a backhanded slap at TU while trying to maintain the "This is great" fake smile.

His last piece was a massive backhanded jab at TU. Between the TW, Cayden McFarland, and some others in the local media, it seems like we don't have many friends out there.

I think the last 6 years between Clancy/Levit/Gragg and their relationship with Monty and some stuff he probably told them "off the record", the "little 'ol TU" mentality not only was developed, but it was nourished and grown to be THE story instead of part of the story. And when every ESPN broadcast leads with "smallest FBS school" that mentality again becomes the focus vs a small part of one's identity. Why are we not leading with something like TU Football: The 1st to play in 4 consecutive New Year's Day bowl games; innovators of the passing game, etc.

Because folks want insurance for their failures. They can always fall back on the lil ol Tulsa crap because it's easy to do. It allows them a built-in excuse when they don't meet expectations (of a job they agreed to).

The school includes it in their gameday press release. We're the ones perpetuating this "smallest FBS school" talking point.
