July 6th if I read correctly. Will the TU campus be open if the players want to return for workouts?
“No earlier than July 6” could still be after July 6.July 6th if I read correctly.
This is almost a month later than most D1 schools will be reopening their athletic facilities to athletes for workouts. We will squarely be behind the 8 ball and the admin just bought both Haith and Monty another year at TU with a built in excuse.Just got an email update from TU, athletes may return for voluntary workouts July 6. They will be tested upon arrival.

TU doesn't have the on campus support staff right now. You do need folks on campus to monitor them because football coaches really on do the football side. Housing, campus security, dining services do the rest. Housing has a lot of components as well...your admin staff, on location support staff (hall directors, apartment coordinators), housekeepers, maintenance, etc. A large portion of those have been furloughed.I don't understand the logic here. Does the school believe these kids are safer running around their home towns with their buddies compared to being in a closed environment where everyone is being tested?

It’s a savings thing. Waiting a few more weeks won’t substantially impact performance or monitoring since we are talking about voluntary individual workouts and it will save the school into six digit sums. Informal group practices with strength team input would normally begin right around the time we are coming back. The real loss is spring practice reps. The young players can never get that experience back. Without bowl practices it really sets us behind.Guess it's a money thing? Other schools have called those staff members back as of June 1 to prepare for the student athletes. We're only talking 100 or so kids so the support staff isn't massive.
