Michael Peters again disrespects his hometown team, this time on Twitter. Peters is the sports editor of the Tulsa World. He is literally costing that paper $$ in lost subscriptions.

Subscriptions hurt but advertising $$$ will have a major impact. If businesses that support TU withhold or call to threaten to withhold their advertising money things will change. TU's administration should tell the World's publisher that they will no longer advertise or do trade in kind programs with their paper until the attitude changes.

Honestly, this is nothing new for Peters, other than now saying it more directly. He has disrespected TU many times over the years. I remember him calling out TU basketball fans who wanted TU to fire Wojcik. He said we should be happy to have a coach as good as Wojcik, even if we never made the NCAAs.

Peters has a very similar attitude to Pat Jones, who scolded TU fans & TU for letting Coach Blankenship go. Again, who are we (TU fans & school ) to expect success. Same condescending attitude.

And Peters is being ripped in Twitter right now. TU players, Ashli Montgomery, fans...everyone. I don't think Hines has been too keen about that tweet. She has avoided defending him (but you really can't expect her to rip her boss). Time for everyone to write Berkshire Hathaway publishing and demand his removal or face dropped subscriptions.

Peters' name describes him accurately. What a prick.

He was a crappy writer when he was at the Beaumont Enterprise and he sucks even worse now. He should have been terminated years ago.

Just read the entire thread of tweets and replies.

Not nearly enough damage inflicted yet imo.

We were waiting for you? NW Arkansas sources report Peters used to edit the UTEP message board.

This took several hours to trickle through TU fans, mostly because they have good jobs and have things to do on Monday.

The difference of course is that Jones is paid to have "hot takes" as a radio personality with no formal journalism training whatsoever.

Peters is allegedly an editor at a major metropolitan newspaper.

You'll notice that whoever that original person was who was quoted by Peters is not getting the same attention.

You know what's really dumb? You take 15 minutes to actually get to know this program...the coaches, the athletes, their families, the history, what TU does with what it has to work with...you don't have to fake it just because it's the city where you live and work.

You have to be a miserable person to not pull for them to succeed on a human level.

Exactly. It's a crazy but beautiful program. There's some sort of weird "I like Houston too much" bias with him. It's like dealing with the Rice fan or Cougar King. Hating just to hate.

He already hates me for hounding him relentlessly about (not) covering MMA.

Tulsa is consistently the #2 highest rated market nationwide (per capita) for MMA viewership the past 10 years and they just started covering it a couple years ago.

He h8 me

Does that fit the 140 char limit?

Peters should check out the gameday sponsors - all major institutions in the community. He is dissing them and us with his disdain for TU football. And, hopefully, the TU Board, President and AD are aware of his outrageous tweet.

Absolutely!

The reality is we don't have the readership to have an impact on TW's decisions.

We do absolutely have plenty of small to enterprise level business owners and executives that control ad revenue, and THAT is what they care about most.

Mikey must have gotten his hand slapped.

I sent the e mail around to some large decision makers with TU ties (casino execs, car lot owners, law firms, apartment/commercial realty folks, medical execs) and got a response out of most of them.

What I don't understand, Is that a successful sports program at TU with local support would not only be beneficial to the University, but to the Tulsa World as well when considering subscribers. How in the "world" can they not see that?

I keep asking for someone at the University in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce or another group to do an economic impact study on TU football and basketball. It would be valuable to show the tax revenue collected on game day from hotels, airlines, car rental, gasoline, food, vendors to work the game, and other activities. The people and businesses in Tulsa need to understand how our programs aid the city and state economically. Without TU playing football and basketball at the highest NCAA level there would be a negative impact. This is the reason the Tulsa World and other media outlets need to be positive about our program.

Supposedly this incident has made its way to 11th and Harvard and there are some pretty unhappy

I COMPLETELY agree with this. Think of the impact a sold out football stadium and basketball arena would have on not just TU, but the city of Tulsa... all those people aren't just spending money at TU, they're staying in hotels, eating at restaurants, and doing many other things that bring a lot of value to the city of Tulsa... I'm really not sure why the city hasn't gotten behind TU and formed some sort of partnership.

Nobody's mentioned it yet. But reading from his op ed piece, I gather that Guerin Emig also didn't share Peters opinion. As far as I can see, hardly anybody of any consequence outside or inside Tulsa shared Peters opinion.

TU should dedicate the grease trap dumpsters behind the Union in his name.
