The Loyola announcers can’t believe how horrible the TU offense is
At this point I wonder about the team’s mental framework
Loyola is in my view mediocre

This team is disappointing not well coached
And Jared Garcia if he ever returns will not change that
If the season plays out as I expect I’ll skip the last month and hope Konkol is canned

Konkol's offensive scheme has been mediocre for years now. It doesn't generate good looks. Honestly, Haith's offense was better. I think we have decent players at this juncture, but they're not being put into positions to succeed. Everything devolves into an isolated dribble drive to the basket. No meaningful screening, few cuts. Poor rebounding.
I can't believe we gave him an extension. I'm fine with letting the season play out, but I have no clue why we continually put ourselves in worse situations with coaching buyouts.
7 games (including the exhibition game) is a large enough sample size to understand what we have.

This roster is broken…again. Not quite as bad as Konkol’s year 1…but worse than year 2.
I think these guards would be pretty good individually on other good teams, but collectively, they’re not long or skilled enough to overcome our inside deficiencies.
But…the massive issue is the glaring void of any discernible talent at the 4 and 5 positions.

We will be at least a little better with Garcia. Enough better that we could have beat Arkansas Little Rock, and played a lot tougher game against Mizzou St.
When we do get Garcia back, I'd like to see us play around with this lineup a bit: two out of the three(Odom/Archie/Willis) and Amadi, Garcia, & Smikle.

It is a disservice to Haith to compare. Listen, it was the right time to move on but he got us a tourney bid in ‘16 and won the conference in ‘19. He had impressive ranked wins like beating down a ranked Memphis by 40, beating a ranked K State in the Reynolds Center
He shouldn’t even be compared to Konkol.
First of all there are side notes to most of the things you cited. But more importantly, I am not saying Haith & Konkol's coaching career is any lesser or greater. I am saying most specifically, that their offensive systems both look the same. Large doses of street ball. That is true. So I disagree.

It’s kind of hard to get an assist when you shoot 28.3% from the field and only make 17 field goals. Loyola would have still had 10 more assists than us even if we made all of our field goal attempts.
Especially when the offense is heavily focused on 3s and you only make 2 in 22 attempts.
Lots of bad in the game. The only positive, and it’s a stretch because it’s heavily impacted by our poor shooting, is we won the offensive rebounding and total rebounding.
Again, I was comparing their offensive systems not their recruiting.
But that was before NiL and open transfer, and he had 8 years of recruiting. As far as my memory goes, that encompassed Igbanu and Horne. The only recruiting class he hit it out of the park with, as far as the 4 goes, was 2016 with Magnay & Igbanu.
It's only Smikle's freshman season, he hasn't had a chance yet to show how far he can go. When you compare a 3 year history to an 8 year, you have to realize the players didn't have time to progress back then, and were less impressive at that point in their careers. Just as ours haven't had time to progress, and may become more impressive.
We didn't have a real idea how far Igbanu or Magnay would progress this early in the season in 2017.(and Magnay had already left) And Horne had just joined us in 2017. it was in 2018 & '19 before we absolutely knew what Igbanu was. Same thing for Horne. These were our primary 3, four position recruits. There wasn't any significant four recruits in years 4-8, unless you want to count Rachal, who was really a 3, playing the four spot. And at this point, the 2 we had were not really any more impressive than what we've had at this point.(Horne & Igbanu(circa 2017, 5 games in) vs Selebangue, Garcia, & Smikle)
So we had (at most) a slightly more promising career with Igbanu who was a sophomore, and that's it.(in comparison to Smikle this year, as a freshman) We had Selebangue who wasn't too shabby. Garcia is not bad. And we can't discount Reed or even Behrend, at this point, because we don't truly know where they are going. Comparing 3 years to 8 is not a fair comparison. If Konkol is here, then wait until year 5 or 6 to make that comparison. Then it will be a little closer to equal.

Let’s compare Haith’s record the first few years. Or maybe the fact in his second year he made the NCAA tourney?
I will repeat it again, I was comparing his offensive s y s t e m, to Haith's, and you have not yet realized that.
And he made the play in game, without NiL and open transfer to deal with. We would probably have kept Selebangue and Haggerty if those two factors were the same.
But I will go back to the thing I was comparing in the first place, offensive system.
There is no evident difference between them on that count.
The other stuff was just an aside that you guys brought up, not what I was comparing. Have you got that straight yet?
Let’s not get overzealous there. He took an NCAA tournament caliber team and turned them into an NIT / play in caliber team….
