Konkol Adds Coaching Honor for Third Straight Season

BATON ROGUE, La. ––
The University of Tulsa’s newly appointed Head Men’s Basketball Coach Eric Konkol was selected as the recipient of the Tommy Joe Eagles Memorial Award as the Louisiana Major College Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season, the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Wednesday.

Konkol was named Tulsa’s head coach on March 21 after leading his Louisiana Tech team to a 24-10 record and an appearance in the Conference USA Championship game. An upset win over North Texas in the semifinal round highlighted the team’s trek to the final. LA Tech finished with eight road wins to go with its 13-3 record at home. In addition, LA Tech’s Kenny Lofton Jr. was named the LABC Major College Player of the Year.

The award is named after Tommy Joe Eagles, a former Louisiana Tech player and coach, and is given to the top head coach in major college basketball in the state of Louisiana.

Konkol is the first coach to receive the award for three consecutive seasons. He will be presented with the Tommy Joe Eagles Memorial Award at the LABC’s 48th Annual Awards Banquet on May 7.
