I'm chatting with KJ now and posted some additional details about his decision in a thread in Hurricane Alley.Interesting, I don't think I've ever seen that before.
I assume you would you burn a year of eligibility? If so, why would you want to graduate early and play a half season? Maybe if that team looked good enough to make a special run in the tourney, but outside that I don't really understand. Especially for a struggling team that seems like it might fire the coach. Does he waste a red shirt year if he doesn't play and just works out with the team and practices? That might make more sense, but only if he is expected to be a starter by the fall. Many questions.
Anyways, welcome KJ! Whatever your reasons, and whatever else the disappointed fan base might be saying, please know you are appreciated and supported, and we look forward to seeing you play. We all want the the team to turn this around, and would love to see you be a part of that! Graduating early also means you must be doing something right on the academic side, so congratulations on that achievement!
Most, but not all, who graduate early, spend that year as a redshirt. Happens all the time in football. Not unusual for a football team to have one or three early grads.Interesting, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Couldn't NIL just pay for his stuff without a scholly? I am just postulating. I don't know how this stuff works, but it seems like it could. Are there are any rules anymore?
They all get scholarships and NIL is negotiable.Couldn't NIL just pay for his stuff without a scholly? I am just postulating. I don't know how this stuff works, but it seems like it could. Are there are any rules anymore?
If Konkol gets fired after a 9 win season because he didn’t have a healthy big man due to holding the 13th open this freshman coming in at semester isn’t going to help himTo those two or three that complain on here every couple of weeks about why Konkol doesn't fill the 13th scholarship, let this be your answer.
Neither would the big man recruit that he would have brought with what nil he had available. Otherwise he would have filled that scholarship, I can just about guarantee you. Why would the last guy he brought be a big man gamble, if he had someone else available. He would have taken whatever big man could salvage his career, and left Behrends off the team, if he was just wanting to protect that open space. If Konkol gets fired after a 9 win season because he didn’t have a healthy big man due to holding the 13th open this freshman coming in at semester isn’t going to help him
That is one rule change I could get behind. It is 33% of the regular season, otherwise known as 4 games. If they carried through with the same rule it would be 9 or 10 games. I'd be happy if they just made it 4 games in basketball as well.Yes, he doesn’t burn the shirt unless he plays in more than 20% of the season. For football that’s 4 games but it’s more in basketball. In the old days if you stepped on the court that year was in the books. I suspect he will primarily practice though.
Edit: I was wrong, that only applies to football but they are considering applying it to basketball.
I’ve always liked Konkol and hoped he would be our answer with the basketball program. Not being able to find a serviceable big with a ship available will likely be his downfall. Hate it for him and TUNeither would the big man recruit that he would have brought with what nil he had available. Otherwise he would have filled that scholarship, I can just about guarantee you. I would like to know what we had available for a big man, in nil, as opposed to the top 6 teams in the AAC.I’ve always liked Konkol and hoped he would be our answer with the basketball program. The same quote was made of Danny Manning here .I’ve always liked Konkol and hoped he would be our answer with the basketball program. Not being able to find a serviceable big with a ship available will likely be his downfall. Hate it for him and TU
I'm not sure where the NIL money went that was close to keeping Haggerty?????????Neither would the big man recruit that he would have brought with what nil he had available. That's with less excuses related to NIL, and more expertise in 'coaching' big men. Of course he had better results than KonkolThe same quote was made of Danny Manning here .
Hmmmh...I'm not sure where the NIL money went that was close to keeping Haggerty?????????
