I try to watch as many different college basketball games this year as I can, to get a feel for the different teams across the country. I watched Utah State/Oklahoma and was impressed with 6-7 Justin Bean. When I did some research I found out he is from Moore, OK and played for Southmoore.

The kid is a stud and I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of him. He had modest senior year stats, although he was coming off knee surgery. He’s Morman and ended up at Utah State as a walk-on.

If you look at his attached bio you can see he’s been quite successful at USU. This year he’s averaging 24 pts and 13.8 rbs, shooting 66.2% fg’s, 60% 3-pt and 84% fts.

I watched him lead USU to a 73-70 win over OU at Myrtle Beach. He scored 24 pts with 19 rbs, shooting 8-11 fg’s, 2-2 3pts and 6-7 fts.

I know he didn’t impress enough in HS to garner a bunch of offers but I bet Porter Moser wondered how Lon Kruger (and TU, OSU and ORU) let Bean go out of state.

For those of you that don’t like “Cliff Calvin” info, just bypass. I love to see obscure players like Bean show everyone that all you need is a chance and hard work to succeed. PS, he avg 11.9 pts and 10.5 rbs as a soph. When’s the last time we had a player avg double digits in rebounding? Ruffin?

I watched this young man play in Skiatook his senior year and thought to myself man this kid is extremely athletic and can flat out play the game Basketball surely someone in the state has offered him. Obviously a massive recruiting mistake by all of the state schools.

The reason Oklahoma schools didn't want him probably is that he didn't put out a highlight reel of 360 dunks. No one cares for basketball skills anymore. Just look at the big guy we signed out of Chicago last year. Left after one year. Could not shoot , pass, or dribble. That’s one thing I like about the European players; they come over with basketball skills.
