• Tulsa is in its 108th season of basketball and fifth season in the American Athletic Conference.

• Tulsa will continue American Athletic Conference play at 6 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, Jan. 24 when it will head to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a matchup with the Bearcats at newly renovated Fifth Third Arena.

• The Bearcats lead the all-time series, 27-12, and have won seven of the last eight matchups. Tulsa’s last win in Cincinnati came on Jan. 5, 1967, and the program is 2-16 all-time on the Bearcats’ home floor.

• Tulsa is coming off a 64-62 setback at UCF on Saturday afternoon in Orlando. DaQuan Jeffries led the way with 15 points, while Sterling Taplin added 14 points for the Hurricane.

• Jeriah Horne is averaging 9.1 ppg, which is tops in the conference among players who have come off the bench in every game this season. The sophomore is averaging 11.7 ppg during league play and 10.8 ppg in his last 12 contests.

• With 84 assists this season, Sterling Taplin has moved to sixth place on the program’s all-time charts with 359. Taplin needs 30 assists to pass current TU assistant coach Shea Seals (1993-1997) and move into the top five on the list.

• DaQuan Jeffries leads the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg and rebounding at 5.6 rpg. Jeffries has led the team in scoring nine times, including a season-high 24 points in a win over UT Arlington (Nov. 27). The Edmond native also averages a team-leading 13.3 ppg during conference play.

• TU has notched 48 league wins since joining The American, which ranks third behind only Cincinnati (62) and SMU (54) during that span (2014-present).

• Tulsa was picked to finish ninth in The American Preseason Poll. TU has finished better than its preseason prediction in all four seasons under head coach Frank Haith.

• With a 10-3 non-conference record, Tulsa had its best start under head coach Frank Haith. The Hurricane registered 10 wins before the start of league play for the first time since 2009-10.

Scouting the Bearcats

• Cincinnati was picked to finish second in The American as the team returns a pair of starters and 11 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which went 31-5 last season and won the league’s regular-season and tournament titles.

• The Bearcats, who are receiving votes in both major polls, come into Thursday’s game having won their last four games and seven of their last eight overall. Two of their last four wins have come in overtime, including its 70-65 win over the Hurricane on Jan. 10.

• Jarron Cumberland leads the way at 17.8 ppg, while he is averaging 21.3 ppg during conference games, a mark that ranks third in the circuit. On Monday, he was named AAC Player of the Week after he averaged 26 points and shot 76.9-percent in a pair of wins.

• UC ranks 33rd in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.399) and ninth in scoring defense (60.7 ppg).

• Tulsa’s last win in Cincinnati came on Jan. 5, 1967, and the program is 2-16 all-time on the Bearcats’ home floor.

Last Meeting

• Tulsa hit a season-high 14 3-pointers, but Cincinnati rallied in the final minute of regulation and took a 70-65 overtime victory on Jan. 10 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Hurricane saw its 15-game home winning streak come to an end.

• DaQuan Jeffries led TU with 14 points on just four shots, while Elijah Joiner and Jeriah Horne each added 11 points.

• The Hurricane led by six at 57-51 with 1:16 left, but the Bearcats closed regulation on a 7-1 run to tie the score and send the game to overtime.

• In the extra session, Cincinnati took the lead for good on a Jarron Cumberland three-point play, which started a 10-2 run for the 70-65 win.

A Tulsa Win Would ...

• Improve Tulsa’s record to 13-7 on the season and improve its conference record to 3-4.

• Improve Tulsa’s all-time record against Cincinnati to 27-13 and give the Hurricane its first win in Cincinnati since Jan. 5, 1967.
