Haggerty/Penny / NIL / Memphis game Thread.........

That does raise who would be most desirable to keep. I would only add Garcia.

Edited:

Add Barnes to that list.

If Konkol stays I think it will be approached more as a who do we need, and how many do we need to get rid of in order to get who we need. If we were to keep all of the must haves,(4) then I think we get rid of somewhere between 2-4 of our least desirables, and recruit 3-5 transfers to add to what's left. Behrend, Reed, & Nash, would be first on the chopping block IMO. If we needed a 4th then it would be between Mcwright, Carrington, and Amadi who would take that 4th spot on the outgoing list.

I don't think Konkol will want to more than approx. 4 more new faces on the team. If he got the right 3, that could make this team into something to contend with. But I would expect him to go with 4 or 5 additional new faces. He won't want to be contending with it taking time to get guys up to speed like it did this season. Although, knock on wood, we won't be contending with situations like Garcia being out for half the season, or Behrend not being ready.

We need a duplicate of Odom and a slightly more consistent 3pt shooter than Willis for replacements. Then we need better subs as a minimum, for Reed & Behrend's spots. And at maximum, player's that turn Smikle and Garcia into subs. Also that would give us the ability to put 2 PF/C on the floor at the same time, more than we had this year, without worrying about foul trouble leaving us with 1 or 0 big men at the end of the game.. That is our ready to go, needs. I'm afraid we are going to have to replace Smikle though. His desirability on the open market may take him out of our price range, just like Haggerty last year.

I hate to mention names but there are a couple of transfers this year who have disappointed me to this point. I think they would be better at a lower level. They were not close to Memphis speed. I saw our new Semester Freshman was on the bench dressed out last night. I don't think Konkol will play him so no one will buy him in April. :)

One benefit of the current world for us, back in the olden days, players didn't want to commit to a coach who might be gone after a year. Now the players probably don't care too much, as long as the checks clear. Should make it not too much for Konkol to recruit, even given his toasty seat.

I have some hope for a nice run to end of regular season and an upset or 2 in the tourney.
I’m not upset about the team but encouraged about their potential.
I hated the noncoference season except for ORU (their worst team in years) but enjoy watching the AAC
We will have enough wins to clearly pass 10 but not to have a winning record due to Southern, Little Rock and the 3 OT loss at Missouri State.
We'll probably end up around 8th, which would mean a winnable first game but Memphis or UAB in the 2nd round... To get a realistically winnable second round game, we'd need to get up to 5, which looks basically impossible.
