GOI (CHAMP WEEK)

A win over SMOO would leave a little better taste in the mouth in this up & down season.

Memphis must not have many quad 1 wins. #52 in the Net Rankings yet nobody is talking about them as a bubble team.

No Memphis fan here but just wondering.

Go TU!!!

Yeah no good wins so to speak. They have one over UCF. Still the bubble is terrible you may see people start to bring them up if it keeps going this way.

Seems like this year the bubble is made up of power 5 Conference schools. Texas 16-15 was/ is a bubble team. Really.

Net ranking/ BPI / ESPN are ruining the Cinderella component of the Tournament.

To me that is what makes the Tournament great.

Texas is now 16-16. How the hell does the committee justify taking Texas over, say, Belmont who is 28-5 (not syaing it will but could happen).

Houston is absolutely destroying UCONN right now. UCONN has NO timeouts left with 15 minutes to play.

I realize that since our season is over, none of these games really qualify as GOI for us anymore but I will continue posting about the various conference tournaments and the NCAAs. They're just always more interesting when TU has a good team that's in the mix.

Houston is up 39 with 5 minutes left. Apparently all of UCONN's problems weren't Ollie.

as much as I hate Houston, I hope they can make a deep run in the NCAA tournament for the conference's exposure and P6 push.

Memphis up 16 on UCF at the under 12 timeout. Memphis is just more athletic than UCF as a whole. Tacko is tall, but he is glued to the ground, sort of like the USMNT's center backs. Memphis is just flat out beating UCF to the basket...and when Tacko is not on the floor the lane opens up and looks like the Old Country Buffet opening for the senior early bird special

Memphis vs. Houston in the semis tomorrow should be a really fun game. Lots of points. Memphis obliterating UCF right now, up 20 with 5 to go.

I would say Houston -5........... I don't think anyone should have to play a neutral tournament in the Fed EX Forum against Memphis.

Wonder when the league will get to a point where they feel like they can hold the conference tourney at a neutral site ?

Next year.

It will be held in the new Dickies arena in Ft. Worth. Easy destination by flight, conveniently close for six of the schools to drive. The contract is two years with an option for a third I believe.

The NCAA has rules the conference tourney games home contests for Memphis. I doubt we see it hosted at a schools arena again.

Didn’t make my normal post as I have been busy at work today. I will make it tomorrow though. It’s almost NCAA tournament time. I am pumped! Just wish TU was in the discussion

Memphis is the best place TBH. Most centrally located, great arena, great city for fans to do and see stuff outside of basketball.

I know it doesn’t solve the “neutral” site aspect but it does check a lot of other boxes

And there have been a ton of close games and #1 seeds made to sweat/lose today. Buffalo was pushed to the brink and had they lost it would have shrunk the bubble by 1.UVa lost, KState lost, Texas Tech got tripped up last night, LSU lost (which may have shrunk the bubble by 1). Temple is currently down 1 to Wichita State. If Temple loses I would be willing to bet they get bumped.

Right now watching UNC and Duke part tres. Zion Williamson is a freak of nature.

We’re just one Zion Williamson away from being a tournament team next year. Lol. He’s a rare talent who’ll be fun to watch in the NBA next year. Unbelievable athlete with a skill set to match, plus a motor and he has fun. Rare combinations.

Duke just beat UNC by 1. Williamson had 31 pts in 35 minutes. That’s ridiculous. He’s 6’8”, 240 LBs or so and has PG skills and quickness

Have you seen the non Memphis games? Attendance is awful with out them, despite tiger fan claims otherwise.

Memphis is the most centrally located if you just work the math. However when talking about schools within driving distance Ft.Worth/Dallas is actually closer to more schools. Including four inside 350 miles and six within 500 miles. Memphis has five inside 500 miles and none inside of roughly 400 (New Orleans is 395ish).

I expect it will do better in DFW given the alumni base of many schools in the area and cheap flights.

From what I have seen, Wichita State fans have outnumbered all the other schools combined. Memphis excluded. Granted, I didn't see Houston or Cincinnati play. Is the arena cleared after every game?

Maybe. But I really doubt you get better attendance anywhere. I was watching the end of the Buffalo-Central Michigan game. Quicken Loans was pretty packed. The night session at FedEx was pretty sparse despite Cincinnati and Wichita State playing. I didn’t really notice that Temple brought many more fans than we did.

I am still saying that we need to have it here in DC at capital one arena. Very neutral and touristy. It’s DC, how much more American can you be to have it’s conference tourney there

Great news for us. Gonna be tougher next year with Foster and McMurray gone.

Sources: Tim Jankovich will return as SMU's head coach next season. Has an overall record of 71-38 with the Ponies.

Interesting, since I read an article a couple of weeks ago that the administration said he’d definitely be back. Lol

Unlike some other jagovs on here, I watch basketball and it was readily apparent their program is a dumpster fire. Some more recruits we could poach.

Doesn't he get back a full set of 13 scholarships next year, due to sanctions running their course?

Houston up by 12 over Memphis with 5 min to go. I want Memphis to go down.
Memphis within 5 with 2 min left. Houston is playing like us and is rattled by the pressure. Quick shots, turnovers, etc. very uncharacteristic. Gotta think UH is starting to hear the crowd

Close. Houston -3. Free throw misses made it close though.

Tennessee goes on an 28-6 run to finish the game and win by 4 over Kentucky. I’m sick Tulsa hasn’t gotten back to the tourney but I’m enjoying the heck out of these games and the big tourney hasn’t even started.

I’m enjoying them, too. I’m looking forward to heading to the BOK this Friday. If TU can’t get to the big dance, at least we get to watch great basketball in person!

Maybe we’ll be a site where some big upsets happen.
