Federal tax benefits for homeowners primarily help wealthier people borrow more money to buy larger houses rather than boost homeownership, according to a new study.

Despite their popularity, the government's tax subsidies for housing "don't encourage homeownership in any meaningful way. People just end up buying larger homes," said Andrew Hanson, an associate professor of economics at Marquette University who conducted the study along with two other economists.

Can't blame the Republicans for this. Democrats had to vote for it and BHO had to sign it.

Bottom line is (imo) some try but most just consider themselves blind followers of their democrat or republican caucus since their party feeds them the money to get re-elcted over and over and over - no questions asked. IMO if they wanted to have campaign finance reform, maybe they should start with that. Just do away with parties altogether and make all canididates independent and run as such. How about limiting political donors to only those that are actual citizens within the district or state they serve?

I think Arkansas tried something like this but it was over turned by a court. The Dems complaigned that their voters didn't know who to vote for without the labels. Can you say "UNINFORMED' voters.
