Cincinnati Game Thread

Middle range shots have been open all night. We haven't been using it. Its all been inside to get blocked or from the 3.

A long ways to go in recruiting... But we will get there. We will raise our game and the level of competition will come down...
We aren't good against teams that are long and strong inside. We get intimidated and miss lay ups that normally fall we don't have a perimeter game to fall back on when our offense inside of 15 feet falters.

We can still beat Cincy, they have more flaws than us

I'm really disappointed with the shots we've been taking. We've been getting the defensive stops but forcing it on the offensive end.

Now I want to win to punish the early leavers. Damn it this is frustrating.

We leave too many points at free throw line and we have no outside presence. Foul us every drive and you win. We have to score in transition and against teams with athletes that advantage is neutralized... You can't miss two foot lay ups...

But.. in 2 yrs none of these old big east teams will be anything but shadows of their old selves and we will look more like a valley team... It will all work out...

Concerning the PA our regular announcers couldn't make the game for whatever reason so ORUvoice came to the recue.

It was easily the best announced game by a PA all season.

Congrats and a big thanks to voice for wearing the blue and gold tonight!

He did a great job...

Concerning the game....

It's hard to win when only a few players actually show up to play.

Worst officiated game in the AAC all season. A different standard is used for Ellis than what is used for Dre. Dre gets called for that thug bump to get position every time, Ellis nearly broke Swannegan a couple of times, no call. I know we griped about the officiating in the SMU game but likely no impact on outcome. The officiating in this one definitely did. Shaq got hammered on a couple of drives...no call. Just brutally bad officiating.

Near the end of the game Ellis kept talking trash...language worthy of being tossed IMO. Referee refused to even acknowledge it although he stopped play to warn Ray. Ellis tackled Smith while we were trying to break...no call. Just f***ing brutal.

3 old fat guys should never be allowed to call a bball game...

They are better suited for tennis or ping pong where you just sit in a chair and watch...

3 years after the Xavier brawl and he's the same guy he's always been.

Rashad Ray really stepped up and played great..TU has to be one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the nation. I know they must shoot 100 free throws at the end of every practice. Man they are lousy at it. TU needs a Brandon Kurtz type badly.

Thanks Sepp, Demon, and everyone! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to do PA for you guys, last night. The TU athletic staff and table crew is a joy to work with.

Sorry I couldn't help bring home the W.

I must be honest though...having done the ORU games forever, I had to catch myself on a couple of occasions, to keep myself from saying YOUR TULSA GOLDEN.....EAGLES! LOL!

One gripe about the PA announcing: The scheduled timeouts are not "media" timeouts. The newspaper doesn't call those timeouts; radio doesn't call them; they aren't for the benefit of the Internet. They are TV advertising timeouts and ought to be labeled as such.

Old.Guy...Thanks for the input. Always appreciate the constructive criticism. And technically, you're correct.

My only minor suggestion is that "second half" before team fouls or team timeouts is too wordy. Those totals from the first half don't matter anymore so it's just kind of unnecessary. I don't remember if "first half" was also specified but same idea there. Total game timeouts and team fouls aren't a stat that matters, just what's within that 20 minute half currently underway.

I wish our usual guy had a fraction of that energy, though.

Fair point, Junkie. With that, same as saying 'media timeout', it's just a habit that I've developed. But, your point is valid.

As far as your normal PA guys, I've heard them both many times, and personally I think they both do a really good job!

Our backup is def better than the main announcer. Quiet and mumbly other than "threeeee" isn't a good combo. Same problem at football to me.

In their defense, the RenCen's acoustics make PA clarity really tough.

I think if you heard them do PA at the Mabee Center, you'd have a different opinion.

Voice, I thought you did a good job...and I actually did pick up on the catch before...probably because I have heard you announce a good number of ORU games.

I know the back-up guy, Larry. Has a tough time doing Wednesday evening games because he is a pastor at a local church. He and I would always talk about TU football and basketball during church league softball games...

Anyway, I hope they can lure you back if the need arises again. You bring a lot of energy to it.

Thanks, BLA! All the kind words are very much appreciated!

I'm sure there were a few people that were like, WTH is that dude doing here?

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that Gold hasn't blasted me with any fat jokes, today! Was almost hoping he'd come introduce himself and we could have buried the hatchet over a dozen Krispy Kreme's...
