Follows Bill Self path. Doubles salary. OSU with problems, recruits may scatter.

Any of the recruits we may want? Maybe lure Solomon back this way as a transfer. Holder has royally jacked up OkState athletics and Boone always lurking in the background has to make some coaches uneasy.

I obviously don't care for OSU, but that's terrible. One and done needs to be done away with for coaches.

I don't think we would want Solomon now. We'd take some others off that team in a heart beat though.

Amateur hour by Holder in how he handled Underwood. OSU needs to realize basketball is their premiere program and pay their coaches like it.

My OSU buddy told me Holder offered $2.5 and Underwood countered to stay at $2.8, OSU said no and Underwood walked over $300K. TW reports there isa a $3M buyout. So, I think Phoggy has it totally right - OSU didn't want to pay him and had a buyout.

Gottlieb would be a failure and there are rumors he is virtually illiterate. For TU's sake, I hope OSU goes after Janko.

The Buzz Peterson walk was painful here but he was never a Brad Underwood. That dude can flat out coach.

Amazing! I saw the thread title & thought "what a silly rumor". If mcane's friend is correct, what a major mistake by Holder. Underwood has now proven his head coaching abilities at 2 places. He is a good one.

T Boone's in town having a private dinner with Self right now.

OSU never offered $2.5M. They floated that number after the fact to not appear cheap. OSU proposed a modest salary increase. BU wasn't pleased. Holder thought best not to engage BU in talks after the initial offer. BU became tired of no talks or legitimate offers and agreed to take the Illinios job. Holder had no idea he was even considering other options. Talk about misreading a situation.

There is the rumor that Underwood agreed to the low salary with a promise from Holder to renegotiate if OSU won and went to the tournament this year when no one had any real hope for them. Holder didn't, Underwood bolted to a program that is basically the equivalent of Wake Forest in the ACC. They can improve but they'll never really move up

Illinios is a much better job than Wake. Self realized as much. It's the job in the talent rich state of Illinios. Holder did a modest attempt to "renogiate" but BU didn't believe the initial offer warranted a response. Holder decided to wait until the season was over to re-engage the talks. BU didn't wait.

Agree Illinois is a vastly superior job to Wake. What a bad day for State. I'm feeling bad for my friends who care about OSU. Amazing.

Don't know any specifics but I do think a coach that a university has invested in and raised their profile should at least consult that university before he takes another job. Maybe this all occurred but I am surprised OSU could not get close to Ill money. Seems strange.

I am taking Joy in their feeling our pain.

They have been exposed as the stepping stone program that they are.

Eddie only came back to OSU because they were the only program that would take him... and only stayed for the same reason.

Personally, I'm enjoying seeing them get Buzzed.

Tom Abatemarco would be a perfect choice for OSU. He knows every coaching staff in America since he has been on most of them. He could hire Gottlieb as his assistant and they could own Twitter. and maybe Dan Wolken as Director of Basketball Operations.

I know this is sarcasm but as a fan of social media this would be FANTASTIC. Less so for OSU but good for college basketball diehards.

Sounds like Holder knew that Illinois and Washington were talking to Underwood, for Underwood to not show for a contract meeting with Holder a day before the Michigan game told Holder he was likely losing his coach after the tournament. This can't be the shock that Holder is portraying it to be.

Perhaps Underwood wasn't Holder's guy? Maybe boosters pushed him on Holder?

Underwood had a good run at SFA, but most of the pieces were already in place when he arrived on campus. His 4 time conference POY was already on campus. His convincing key pieces of States roster to stay was crucial for this run. Maybe his incoming class isn't that great?

They got a four star shooting guard I think out of Florida. Pretty decent competition for him. After that, nobody that was a huge get.

But the AD is your benefactor's guy. Make him mad and you are Iowa State, except your stadium faces the wrong direction.

Yep. Holder will be the AD for as long as he wants or until Boone is 6' under. I don't see anyway OSU throws away the additional $100M he reportedly has left them.

Women's tennis might be the best sports squad currently on the OSU campus. Woohoo

Maybe Scott Sutton will finally get his chance at osu. He has no drinking problem like his father or a prescription drug problem like his brother, and they will never have to worry about him leaving for another school!

He current poor level of play at ORU may have closed that door on many future opportunities. He may need to rebuild the program again if he wishes to move up the coaching ranks. He's had opportunities in the past but stayed so who knows???

I saw that Chris (Kris?) Martin is transferring from ORU after his Soph (?) year. That really leaves the cupboard bare for next year, and Fuqua's son doesn't arrive until the year after that. It appears Scott survived this bad year. I wonder if he can survive two in a row.

I've also heard that Haith doesn't want to continue the series (not trying to start that thread up again), but I think the game here next year is the last of the current contract.

Fuqua is a senior.

Thanks. That explains the patience with Scott Sutton.

ORU also has Darien Jackson's teammate coming in next year. Jamicheal Morgan is a very athletic forward. We looked at him early on, when we were recruiting Jackson.

ORU will also return Nzekwesi who was the Summit newcomer of the year and probably the most effective player they had all season. He's in the Caleb Green mold (not saying he will develop the same way but their games are comparable). It really should not be difficult to get to the top of the Summit. That league is really terrible.
