BOK Center NCAA 1st and 2nd round Games.... A Home Run for our City.....

Too bad kitty is coming to town. One and done.

Iowa State brings huge crowds as well. I bet Tech would this year.
I have a great deal of extended family that are Tech grads and they are scampering to get ahold of tickets and make arrangements and say that is reflective of many of their friends.

Sounds like 6th street has been gentrified since I lived there in ‘73. Jobs were hard to come by then so I was working swing shift at Git-N-Go and on my way home one evening I stopped for some gas and a hooker approached me at the pump and offered a “service” for a ride home. Newly married I declined.

Wow!
I used to go to Eclipse/Nitro and it was always shady down there. Still needs some work but it’s improved a great deal.

Yeah, K Rahal man. K Rahal.

My buddies and I would go to concerts down there starting around 8th grade. Rarely did anything good come from it. Had to walk home to Maple Ridge a few times.

I was thinking there some great local bands back then. Doesn’t really exist anymore. That place would be packed some nights when Jacob Fred or Bug played.

Eclipse briefly reopened under that name a few years back. I went in there and it was too weird, especially being able to legally order beer.

There was a surprising amount going on down there even back then (my best friend’s brother had a computer business across the street), but yeah, it wasn’t great. And then there was some abandoned house nearby where punk bands played.

K Rahal and I know each other well, too well in fact. I hung out there on and off since the late 80's. Got carjacked outside his club in the early 90's.
Was walking to my car in the back parking lot. Two guys came up and held what I first thought was a knife to my throat. Later realized it was a screwdriver. They forced me to get into my car and drive. Guy in backseat still held screwdriver to my throat, while the other sat in my front seat. Kept talking sh*t to me, saying they were thinking bout killing me. By the tone of their voice and their attitudes I somehow knew they were not serious and they were just playing me. They had me drive around for a couple of six blocks, and had me stop. Then their threats got more heated but somehow I still knew the main threat was not serious. They told me to get out of my car and walk in front of it, and then they would decide what they would do, with threat of murder being expressed as an option. After I got out, they talked on the side for a few seconds, and then said this was my lucky day, they were gonna let me go. They got away with less than 20 bucks and a half a soft pack of camels. They took off on foot.

I couldn't believe they didn't take my car, or do something with my keys. I got back in the car and zoomed off to the nearest pay phone. Called the police, and waited 7 or 10 min on them while I stayed on the phone with the 911 operator. The police took me back to the same neighborhood and we cruised around looking for them. About five or ten minutes later, I spotted some guys about 30 yards away and said that looked like them. The police got out and arrested them. They had the cash on them, but I didn't know exactly how much it was just knew it was between 13 and maybe 18 dollars. The cigarettes were what got them in jail, it corroborated my story. Going to jail over a half a soft pack of camel cigarettes. Nailed them in court with testimony of a soft pack. Good times.

First and last time I got mugged. Got lots more stories about K Rahal and his club. So probably does LEC.

I have a good imitation of K, "You have the honor of playing at the famous club Nitro, you should be paying me."(in K's voice) Skinheads and K get along great.

Re-posting here --

I'd say Texas Tech had the most, followed by IA State fans. Then an Ohio State. Then Houston (maybe more Houston than Ohio State now that I think about it). I saw at least a few from Buffalo and Northern Kentucky. Saw Georgia State cheerleaders out and about in their uniforms. From a distance I thought it might be the team, then I noticed that some were like 5' tall and female ... Sherlock Holmes I am not.

I didn't see a single Arizona State fan. I get that its far away and play in games are iffy... but you'd think with a school that large there'd be a few fans within driving distance. Maybe I just missed 'em.

Arizona State is a non stop short flight away. They just don’t care.

Houston and Tech May have more come in tomorrow. City lost tons of money on ISU loss. The referees did not get the word. The great block at the end that was called a foul killed them.

K was a character! Sometimes more of an azzhole character. Aston, those were the club names at different times.

The music scene was great before, during, and after my time in that scene. I’m not sure it exists anymore, at least like that.
The abandoned house bands were always cool!
I wish I had a appreciated that scene more as I didn’t realize that type of scene wasn’t normal!

Good documentary to watch is Oil Capital Underground That covers that scene well for those who didn’t get to enjoy it.

Yea, after letting so much go late in the game, they finally make a call and it was terrible and game altering one.

Yep the ISU loss cost Tulsa around 4,500 rooms Saturday and Sunday night and about that many fans that would have boosted Session 3 up around 17K. We must hope that both Ohio State (which has alumni everywhere), Tech and UH send more fans Sunday. UH's fan base didn't come close to the number of SMOO fans here for the Milton flameout. Very disappointing with a non-stop and numerous cheapo flights on SW. They really don't care.

There were a ton of decent priced tickets in Vivid Seat, Seat Geek, etc.

Although I didn’t get interviewed for the doc, I was happy to contribute a few things to Dave and Bryan as they were putting it together. Even two songs I wrote in 86-87 made it in. That was pretty wild.

K’s a good dude. We just hated him bc he wouldn’t let us mosh lol. He always paid us with a case of beer when we played a gig, which was cool bc our drummer didn’t drink. That was two more beers each for the rest of us!

Nice!!!
K was off and on when I saw him. Maybe he was grumpy to help keep things in line the best he could. Always sucked when they decided to ID or when the cops showed up, which wasn’t often when I was going.
It was a great venue to local music!

I see K sometimes at our Lebanese Maronite catholic church. He shut down his restaurant Papa Ghannouj that he was running in his building and is pretty much retired now.

Do you remember when he shut down Papa Ganouj? I ate there once when it first opened.

I love his pita sandwiches that he sold every once in awhile at Eclipse!

My pure informal and anecdotal read is that Texas Tech has the most fans for final four weekend followed by Auburn then Virginia then MSU (tho the MSU folks might have left since they could drive).

I think in the past year? The building looks fully equipped still.
