So what are the prospects for a partial attendance recovery this year knowing that the OKC Thunder are absolutely going to suck ass and maybe not as many people wanting to make that Straight-from-hell trip to OKC to watch the equivalent of the Phoenix Suns? Just a thought as OKC now has no verifiable super star draw like it has since they relocated to OKC.

We should give discounted tickets to people who can show a Thunder ticket stub.

I don’t think there is any correlation between NBA and NCAA attendance. Thunder fans may attend fewer games, but they likely won’t be spending that free time on college games, The experience is just too different.

I know we’ll be going to fewer Thunder games until they get their act back together. The drive really isn’t that bad and they do have some really good burger joints, but it just won’t be as exciting for awhile.

What are some of your legitimate ideas to increase basketball attendance? I know the Athletic Dept reads this and there are some really good minds on here with good ideas.

1). Winning a conference championship

2). Signing Bryce Thompson

Not necessarily in that order.

Bryce would put 1000 more butts in the seats per game imo.

I agree, but how about some ideas outside of those. How do you get "Drillers" fans, Oklahoma Outlaw" fans, Oilers fans", Local Junior High basketball kids, Fans that used to be "Nolan Richardson" fans.

Have Haith wear polka dot shirts.....

Seriously, it has been some time since we have had a team that was exceptional, especially
one that had a star, or a special flair that is appealing to fans.....The University has done a
very poor job in promoting what have been a series of teams that could win from (or lose to)
almost anyone...

Another factor, and one that tees me off the most, is that in our Self&Co. Hayday, the local
rag was a constant promoter....The current one is consistently absent in that regard...(and
at least as bad in matters local, national and international)....Much more of a propaganda
source than a news source.....

This year's team will be better, and has the potential to build on the fan base....It may well
not be an instantaneous process... .

This team does need a star....There are no obvious candidates....EVen KES being given
a waiver would help some.....

Give the media a local star destined for the NBA and they will promote him and the team. They’re lazy though. We’re going to have to give them a story line opposed to relying on them to create or find their own.

Honestly, I think the NBA does have some effect on NCAA attendance. Keep in mind that we’re not the only program in the state that has been suffering. OU and OSU haven’t had the same kind of basketball fan support they once did despite having some good years in the last decade.

Allow the student body to get rowdy in the student section. Encourage athletes from other sports to come and cheer on the basketball team. Find a wacky student or two and let them dress up in costume and help lead cheers...come to think of it have cheers that get the crowd involved and that make sense. These have all helped at times in the past and cost nothing.

I never understood why the AD allowed the TULSA spelled out at midcoast by the Blues Brothers die away. They would need a different pair now but it's an easy cheer everyone can participate in.

"A local star destined for the NBA"....Ah, there's the rub......Who is that going to be...Even
if it happened, I doubt if the local socialist rag would recognize it.....

I'm afraid that the media, local and otherwise, is about as far from reality, as the Earth is
from Mars, "The War of the Worlds" not withstanding.......

Our way out of the wilderness is to win.....Is to win....Is to win......The incoming recruiting
class is progress toward that goal (I hope that I.I. is seeing some things that makes him
agree), but that is not all it is going to take....You have to string them back to back...The
2018 recruiting class was a disaster (despite Chris's defense of it), and that just won't
feed the Bulldog....You have to do it every year....And one more time.....WE NEED A
STAR.....Hopefully local!!

A lot of things are involved in successful programs....(See Houston, See Wichita)..Let's
hope some of those aspects can rub off on us!!

.....You have to do it every year.....

There are obviously a multitude of factors involved in a successful program, but it finally
comes down to getting players that can play, and coaches that can coach.....

Winning cures the attendance issues unless you do it utilizing "Dougie the douches" how to get 20+ victories every year method. How to do that given our resources is the big question. The bandwagon fans always load up when they think their seeing something special, and we had some of those special teams that put butts in the seats when Nolan, Tubby and Self were on the bench. All of those guys put good squads on the floor and had substantive wins year in and year out.

Inexplicable losses kept fans away under Haith despite some very good wins.
Haith, for whatever reason(s) seems to start the season about four or five games into the
schedule....The early ones are treated like scrimmages, where substitution, both in number
and sequence, make no difference (and no sense).......Your description of Inexplicable losses
seems to be appropriate.....

Bottom line on successful programs: Recruit players that can play, and hire coaches that
can coach.....During the Tubby, Nolan, and Self years, we did a good job of that....Since
then, it has been hit and miss at best....

Our current staff needs to grab the torch and run with it....This incoming roster has quite
a lot of promise....If they (the staff) can add to and improve on it, we may start to recover
some of our past status in the BB world....

The location of our school in the middle of Big Eight (I know, that's passe) country, and the
environment we recruit in is always going to make our recruiting situation a tough row to
hoe....BUT, no one ever said it would be easy.....It's been done before, and with hard work,
can be done again....

Nolan had a saying that he used several times....You don't prove anything by beating the
"Almagordo School of the Blind"....That seemed to be Doug's forte....Win about ten of those,
and lean on the lower half of the conference for the others....No...You make a tough but
fair schedule, and recruit players that can handle that schedule and please your fans....

Nolan, Tubby, and Self were able to do that....The last of Self recruits in 2002-2003 could
have gone to the third round under JP except for a late turnover....We obviously haven't
recruited that well since....

That was pushing 20 yrs. ago...You begin to wonder....Will we ever do it again??

They already provide these amenities for GHC members except for the gambling. They just don’t advertise it well.

Tell me more about the sluts for GHC members.

Oh you said slots.

Well, are there the former?

TU can offer a ton right now. TU has great facilities for basketball. It's 20 years old and still looks/feels pretty new. Outside of Memphis, we practice and play in a facility as good as any in the AAC. We play in a freaking great conference. And TU can still offer student athletes some of the best in terms of academic environment to thrive in if that's something they value.

Unfortunately, I think the days of the football team (or any students) getting extremely rowdy are long gone. Ever since that :crap:ty article was published in TUs student newspaper trashing the football team for cheering too “offensively” during a basketball game. Students still come to games, the fraternities still typically get down in the front and cheer, but that’s likely going to be the extent of it.

No one wants their face put on a newspaper (no matter how crappy) and be put on blast for getting rowdy at a sporting event.

I have often wondered why we havent put slots in the concourses and turned the presidents suite into a high rollers room complete with cards, roullette and craps. I mean we are sponsored by a casino arent we?.. heck our tix could be offered as comps.

And a dispensary!

If you had a med cannabis room in the Reynold's Center you'd tap into an entirely new group of fans.

Also, we should have a bar in one area of the concourse in the DonRey. Seriously...set up a bar, some stools, and a few TVs with the game and some different games on.

Now that we are serving beer and wine, i love the bar idea. Where would it go though?

They actually had a concept for that several years ago. It would have gone in President suite/ upper student section.

That doesn't get more fans to the game, it just gives fans who are already coming and giving money an extra perk. We need things that will get more people to games and in the building.

I don't know exactly where it would go. Southeast corner of the concourse. There seems like there is extra room out that way for some reason.

Extra perks brings more fans to the games. I can tell you right now there have been times when I've been at a bar or brewery waiting for a TU game to start and ended up missing the game or showing up late. A bar at the DonRey could be a destination.

"Let's get to the arena early, grab a beer and watch the Cincy/Temple game before tip." It just needs to be available to every ticket holder and not closed away for donors only.

Pretty cool idea. I think the sports bar (hut) does ok across campus, so maybe something like that would work?

I was so disappointed this never came to fruition, the concept was great and I was ready to buy-in.
