- Three American Athletic Conference teams remain unbeaten through six weeks of the 2015 season, as Houston, Memphis and Temple hold 5-0 records.
- The American is one of four conferences with three 3-0 teams, along with the Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC.
- Houston continued its hot start under first-year head coach Tom Herman as the Cougars improved to 2-0 in The American with a 49-28 win against SMU Thursday at TDECU Stadium. Houston tied an American Athletic Conference record with seven rushing touchdowns as QB Greg Ward Jr. accounted for four TDs on the ground. RB Kenneth Farrow added three scores.
- While Houston, Memphis and Navy are tied at 2-0 in The American’s West Division, Temple stands as the only East Division team at 2-0 in conference play as the Owls improved to 5-0 overall with a 49-10 win against Tulane at Lincoln Financial Field. The Owls closed the game with 42 answered points and held the Green Wave to 110 yards and eight first downs. QB P.J. Walker threw for 183 yards and two TDs for Temple, which is 5-0 for the first time since 1974.
- UConn evened its conference record at 1-1 and leveled its overall mark at 3-3 with a 40-13 win at UCF. The Huskies reached season highs in points and total offense (433 yards) as they built a 40-3 lead after three quarters. QB Bryant Shirreffs was an efficient 16-for-22 for 256 yards and a touchdown, while he rushed for 42 yards and a TD for UConn.
- USF likewise turned in one of its best offensive efforts of the season as the Bulls used a big second half to break open a 10-3 game and take a 45-24 win against Syracuse at Raymond James Stadium. RB Marlon Mack rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while QB Quinton Flowers was 15-of-22 for 259 yards and two touchdowns to go with 55 rushing yards and a third TD. The Bulls improved to 2-3 with the win.
- Tulsa improved to 3-2 as the Golden Hurricane rallied for a 34-24 victory against Louisiana-Monroe at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Tulsa set an American Athletic Conference record by running 107 offensive plays, while the Golden Hurricane finished with 563 yards of offense and 31 first downs. QB Dane Evans was 28-of-44 for 341 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Zack Langer added his ninth and 10th rushing touchdowns of the year.
- Navy suffered its first loss of the season as the Midshipmen fell to No. 15 Notre Dame, 41-24. FB Quintin Ezell rushed for two touchdowns and 75 yards on six carries for Navy, which fell to 4-1 and saw an eight-game winning streak come to an end.
- East Carolina took Brigham Young to the wire in Provo, Utah, as the Pirates fell 45-38. BYU had built a 38-21 lead into the fourth quarter, but East Carolina came all the way back to tie the score with 4:01 left. The Cougars got the go-ahead points with 19 seconds left, however, to drop the Pirates to 3-2 on the year. QB Blake Kemp threw for 371 yards and two touchdowns for East Carolina.
