I was just teasing him. I like Bill Simmons.I think you guys are a little too hard on TU_Bla. He is proud of the university, and proud of where he is from at the same time. That's not all bad. It's no worse than being proud of being from Tulsa.

How does this recruiting class rank in our history.
How does this recruiting class rank in our history.
Before these two, who was our last 4-star?On paper it is the best class since Uzoh, Jordan, Walls (and another I think?) but how that translates one never knows.
I can’t think of a single class we’ve had with two 4-star recruits out of HS (Rachal and KES).
Before these two, who was our last 4-star?
How about DeAngelo McDaniel? One service had him as the number 21 player in the country. The question is how many five stars TU has signed???? I can think of only one. Ricky Ross. Don’t think they had “stars” before 1980.

WeirdIf this board had existed as composed back then, people would have seriously complained about Self because he didn’t get more out of D-Mac. People would have thought Self sucked.
Of course, the board hated Harrington back then and it’s funny how he had been canonized since.
What is the cutoff between 5* and 4*? As I said one service listed him as the #21 player in the country. Here is a composite of 4 services that has him as #60 (low of 49, high of 82) but I’m not seeing any * ratings. All the services have different evaluations and how he ended up playing has nothing to do with recruiting ranking. He was a four star I’m pretty sure. And played like a two star.
I think it depends on the year. Rivals got going right around then. There was even a non-moderates Tulsa rivals board. You could read Big Zit rants even back then as well as rants from another that are still well remembered today.
He wouldn't commit to playing the way Self needed him to play in that system. He seemed to shy away from the physicality of the game and the grinding defense Self liked to play with that team.He was a four star I’m pretty sure. And played like a two star.
Four star McDonalds All-American if my memory serves me.He was a four star I’m pretty sure. And played like a two star.
Thank you. I grew up in Boston so my pro sports fandom is developed from that. So, good story and one that wasn't unlike many in the Boston area in 2004...my great grandmother who was 90 years old in 2004, actually was alive when the Red Sox had last won the World Series in 1918, but she was so young she said she didn't remember it. She cried tears of joy when they finally won in 2004. I remember sitting on her lap when I was a kid in the late 70s of her cursing the "G*ddamn bums" in her Irish brogue. People were Pats fans, Bruins fans, and Celtics fans, but, anyone from New England all lived and died with the Red Sox and their success and mostly failures (it's a little different now with the mobility people have). She told stories of how the '67 team broke her heart. And she referred to Bucky dent by his New England given middle name until she died. When the Patriots won in 2001 she said she never though she'd see the day when people talked about the Patriots more than the Red Sox. She died in 2009 at the age of 95 and seeing the Red Sox winning 2 WS titles (that she remembered) and a Red Sox cap was placed in her casket.I think you guys are a little too hard on TU_Bla. He is proud of the university, and proud of where he is from at the same time. That's not all bad. It's no worse than being proud of being from Tulsa.
I loved the ‘67 World Series. The Cardinals seldom, if ever, appeared on TV that year because the station broadcasting baseball, there was only a “game of the week” back then, had a contract with the Yankees. Consequently my dad and I listened to every game on the radio (loved the weekend afternoon double headers). Then I got to see them play and beat the Red Sox in the series. Other than Bob Gibson and Lou Brock the team was kind of considered a bunch of no names nationally. Everyone who wasn’t a Cardinal fan seemed to expect Yaz and the Sox to win easily. I think Gibson had an ERA under 1 that year and he owned the Sox in the series.
Now ‘68 was a different story, I still hate Denny McLain.

Who was a big name in ‘67? Flood wasn’t well known until he challenged the reserve clause and it effectively ended his career. Bring up Shannon, Maxvill, Javier and Cepeda to non-cardinal fans and the response is “who?” Maris was a big name but considered a has-been. Steve Carlton was just beginning his career and he and McCarver are better known as Phillies than Cardinals.I wouldn't exactly refer to this lineup as "no names" http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1967&t=SLN
I hate Lolich too but McLain sticks out because he kept the series going with a win in game 6. McLains poor showing in the series was because he faced Gibson in his first two games. Gibson gave up 1 run and 18 hits in 3 games. That 1 run was when he faced Lolich in game 7.I thought it was Mickey Lolich that tamed the Cards in 68! I was a freshman at TU then.
Dew wasn’t a 4 star
Interesting.... appears to be the time to reel in all the near misses...In other news, a former big time recruiting near-miss is transferring from Oregon. Victor Bailey. He shot over 40% from 3 as a sophomore.
harmoncollege is still posting. :wink:You can still see online snapshots from the old SportsOnly blue boards back to 1999 via the Wayback Machine. There are some familiar names still around including TULSAFAN that were posting back then. I wonder what ever happened to some of those other characters though.
