Music.......sweet, sweet Music

Is anybody going to see Gary Clark Jr. at the Cain's?

Sadly the scalpers raided the tickets for Violent Femmes.

Only location I remember was down by ORU like 71st n Lewis... (been a long time).. used to meet the preacher's daughters out violating curfew
Preacher’s kids are sometimes the fun and troublemaking kids. At least that’s what my mom said because she was one. 😄

I love seeing bands perform live and have seen a fairly wide variety of artists over the years. Seeing this group perform was a real treat.

I love Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues.

Although I have seen all four of them perform it was not together.

What a long, strange trip its been (wrong band).

I found this on YouTube, and the strange thing is that I was there with friends from TU for my birthday. I would have preferred more film of the concert (I think much of the footage was from KOTV archives) rather than the Tulsa police cars at the time or the protestors, but it was a news story.

I was at this show too. The protesters were more annoying than the band.

Just thinking that we couldn't let the thread die without mentioning The Pixies. Kim Deal's banshee wail in this song is strangely arousing.

I’ll be back down here for Billy Joel & Stevie Nicks next weekend. That’s more my style.

Dub out the music and my ears would be fine with the screaming.
She performed for 3:15, which was about 20 minutes longer than the Springsteen show. I was able to make my way into the Stadium Club, which was much more pleasant.

That’s not the show that was postponed until 2024 due to illness in Stevie’s band was it?

As for going to concerts with your kids, I took our oldest to a concert she wanted to see when she was 13. It featured Destiny’s Child (Beyoncé) and *NSYNC. I thought I had been sent to purgatory or worse from the screaming. As with many teens, her taste in music changed and a couple of years later I drove her and a friend to a concert featuring Fenix TX, blink-182 and Bad Religion. Much better.

Both our kids have an appreciation for a broad range of music, although the younger one and her spouse are seeing Taylor Swift in a few days.

This feels a lot like a "get of my dad gum lawn" argument.
Transferring to the music thread on the general board.

Does it still feel like a 'get of of my dad gum lawn' argument after the artists I listed?

Really would like to hear your answer to this question. Maybe it will take a bit of research on your part, if you haven't heard a decent amount of the bands I listed. I do think a few of TS songs aren't bad, like Mirrorball, All Too Well, & a few others. But I'm not running to put them in my music collection. Just went to see LP in St Louis, great show.

I added a couple, \/ after I put it up as edited.

LP,(Laura Pergolizzi) Ray Lamontagne, Paolo Nutini, Glen Hansard, Angel Olsen, Turnpike Troubadours, Fontaine SDC, Wet Leg, Lana Del Rey, Gorillaz, Sia, Fiona Apple, Sleater Kinney, Black Pumas, Jockstrap, Billie Eilesh, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

I have enjoyed Lana del Rey when hearing her. Father John Misty too.

Here’s a good one: we recently went to see “Foreigner” at the casino. What we actually saw was 6 talented musicians playing Foreigner hits, none of which played on any of the original recordings.

3 of the guys did play on the last Foreigner album, which was a direct to Wal Mart release about 10 years ago that I had never heard of.

Did I see Foreigner or did I just pay full price for a cover band?

Next up are the Eagles, the Stones, P!nk and hopefully Aerosmith if the get back out.

We are seeing the end of the road for that generation of musicians.

I keep saying this post is on the general board, but I forgot it got put on the Crossfire board accidentally on purpose.

I remember frantically looking for a last minute baby sitter so that we could see the Stones for what was likely the last time. That baby is now 28 years old and we’ve seen the band 7 times since then so you just never know.

Tickets for their upcoming tour are selling faster than any in recent memory so fans still seem to be interested too.

Right but noticed lots of deaths among that cohort in the past year and many announcements of ceasing touring.

Death is around the corner and straight ahead.
Which is where this music thread was headed until G$ resurrected it. I'll prolly join in when the groups talked about are 30 years old or longer, not counting the Stones who will be pumping out albums in the next millenia. BTW: Not many know of Cpt. Beefheart (G$ does), but I saw a YouTube bio on him just last week. Didn't know that he & Frank Zappa grew up in same town (somewhere in Cali. desert) and tried to out-weird each other as kids.

It felt like a time warp a couple of weeks ago when the Stones and the Beatles were battling at the top of the charts.

@chito_and_leon the next time you ask me a question that you don't care about listening to the answer, other than to prove an immutable point that has already been decided in your own head, don't expect a response from me. Or at least not a civil response. I don't need or care for pompous.

The latest words from Keith Richards at 138 years young.

Bands not mentioned in this thread, that I thought I would throw into the fray.

I went to see LP mid November on the Delmar Loop in St Louis. Was a really nice show. We stayed right next door at a neat little boutique establishment, The Moonrise Hotel. We caught an amusing little tourist trap on the way back called The Uranus Fudge Packing Company. Lots of souvenirs picked up there. Puns galore. We got our fudge packed tightly in a box, instead of loosely in a bag.
