Wichita State to AAC for bball?

I saw that a little while ago. Honestly, I can see pros and cons with WSU, but ultimately it will come down to money. If they can generate enough additional revenue from espn to cover themselves and give everyone else a pay bump, I imagine they'll get an invite.

We talk like basketball only is an option for Wichita State. I think if this were a real thing they would push all sports since they don't have football. Adding Wichita State in baseball would not be a horrible thing either...not that baseball affects us. I don't see the MVC keeping Wichita St in all sports except basketball.

I'm in favor, but football drives the bus and I doubt adding basketball-only members will add enough money to the pie to justify adding extra slices.

I like it and think it offsets Navy not being in the league in other sports and us not playing baseball.

this seems like deja vu. I'm fine with it as well.

I like it. Anything that bolsters the league I am good with. There has to be a easily come up with an equation that doesn't hurt the current members. If we start getting additional teams into the tournament, it will benefit everyone.

The thing I like most is it would assure us a home game with WSU every season as well as a good crowd. Also a fairly short ride to an away venue. It would help the AAC west rival the AAC east in MBB. Good crowds and great rivalries.

Are you kidding? The west would be as difficult as the football division. Wichita State, Memphis, SMU, us and a rapidly improving Houston. The east would have UCONN, Cincinnati, and Temple.

So Rothstein mentions Houston as a tourney regular? No Tulsa?

I was referring to the rivalries when I mentioned east vs west. Its all about travel-able games for us in the league and geography since there is a large geographic gap in the league . Close rivals is what we need to stimulate attendance and good schedules. IMO

Rothstein is not obviously too educated about Houston basketball and is equivocating their recent success in football and having kelvin sampson as a coach as being some sort of regular appearance thing. I mean 3 appearances in 26 years is regular right? FML.

Basketball only Witchita St. would offset football only Navy. Make for a very difficult div. Probably increase the number of AAC teams in the NCAA tourny yearly. Don't see many negatives.

That is one of the problems the Tulsa basketball teams have, close rivalries. Not enough known close teams to stimulate attendance. Witchita St. is a no brainer. Tulsa needs to be first in line to vote for them. Offsets football only Navy.

Add Army, Boise State, San Diego State and Air Force (BYU ain't coming) - and that's one big time conference - better than Big 12'ish and up there with the Pac 10 most years.

So... if you add WSU for BB, then you'd have to add another BB member under my plan for a 16 team conference. Why not Gonzaga?

Better than the Big 12 in what?

Except for Kansas the American is better than the big 12 in basketball overall. Memphis just beat OU at OU in overtime.

It's unlikely a bump in pay for the other 11 full membets occurs for a while, would just need WSU to benefit from the extra revenue and not ciphon from the other 11. The share of TV money from AAC basketball for WSU should easily trump what they get in the MVC. The idea in the short-term would be similar to the undervalued Espn deal for the AAC football. Not much money but tremendous exposure. WSU is high profile and would be a huge boost to the AAC, as the AAC would do the same for WSU. Think NCAA credits vs additional TV dollars for the AAC in short-term.

Ugh no. Big12 is the top rated conference per Sagarin. AAC is 7th.

That's a helluva division and conference!
I doubt a 12-team AAC would split into divisions, likely scheduling pods, i.e 3 pods of 4 for annual home-home, then rotate home-home with other 2 pods bi-annually. All members plays each other atleast once annually.

WSU, TU, SMU, UH
TUL, UM, USF, UCF
UC, UCONN, TEM, ECU

They are better than I thought but I don't think they are particularly good. They are 0-3 against kenpom top 50. Their best win is a 3 point win over a mediocre OU team.

AAC is trending up BIG LEAGUE.... (plug for the kick :crap:ter elect) - and the football, well... unless TX becomes the national power that it should always be every year, the AAC with some key additions is a BETTER league than the Big 12'ish.

BIG 12 is crumbling. It's F'd up.

Welcome back. You'd been suspiciously quiet on the Wichita front after crowing all last year about how terrible they'd be when Baker and van Vleet graduated.

Good point ctt8410, Baker and van Vleet are gone. WSU still pretty salty.

Many of realized at the time of the KU vs WSU NCAA game that Wichita was just a better team that year.

GO TU!!!
