Wichita state game thread.

If we win the tournament, get ready for the production of “ Eric Konkol The Movie “
A movie of a young lad that moved to Tulsa from Louisiana and led the most improbable comeback season by winning the aac tournament and bringing Tulsa basketball back to glory.
Bonus scene - Haggarty loses all of his money investing in Memphis bbq

I really like Odom and wished we had him longer. When asked by the tv crew if he thought that Tulsa could win he said absolutely! If this team play like it did today, then there isn’t anyone we can’t beat. He motivated me

There isn’t anyone we can’t beat? Lol, come on man.

I know people will not agree with me, but I do think Konkol deserves one more year. I get that he is the coach and the buck stops with him. However, man he was delt the worst of hands to start and his hands keep getting bad draws. Between injuries, in conference tampering by Memphis, and just now really getting NIL for him to use....We are lucky we werent dead last. I think a big reason this season happened was lack of leadership within TU with enough insight to get NIL a few years back. I will give him one more chance now with the means to produce real talent.

excuses. Was this the reason his offense is so bad?

Konkol took a challenging situation and made the least of it. We don't have a lot of NIL money, I'd prefer not to flush a year of it it. We need a scrounger, the kind of guy who can take 46 cents and a ball of used duct tape and turn it into a $200k a year business. Konkol would be great at a dinner party but he's not that guy.

Also, I'm really glad the seniors got this great win. It's been a tough year, nice to see them get some fun.

giving him another year would be an absolute disaster

I do believe its a huge reason. We were missing our best inside man the majority of the season and when he came back he never played up to the level the year before.

Excuses they might be but they were factors. It's up to you decide how much those factors played a role into how the team was. I am willing to give it one more go. You are not.

That's the kind of thing I'd be open to if we finished 17-15 and 9-9 in conference. But we'll lose 20 games for the 2nd time in 3 years. One guy underperforming is not the issue. We have wholesale problems. This will be the 8th time in our 113 seasons of playing basketball that we finish with 20 or more losses and 2 of them are with Konkol.

Jim King (twice) 1976-1977 and 1979-1980 .
J.D. Barnett 1987-1988
John Phillips (twice) 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.
Frank Haith 2021-2022
Eric Konkol (twice) 2022-2023 and 2024-2025

The common denominator for each was that they all were fired (or resigned).

10 years as a head coach and 0 NCAA tournament appearances.

What else is left to learn?
