To answer your question, Kittleman is still a walk-on. There were 12 captains named from a ballot that all players were asked to vote for the captains. Those captains are then in charge of (I think) like 8 players....they relay information about practice times and meal times, that sort of thing. They make sure they are attending class.

This platoon system was discussed in another thread. Wilson brought the idea with him from Ohio St.

Speaks volumes about a guy that is a walk-on, yet is clearly seen as a team leader.
