Welcome To Tulsa Tre Lamb

One fun tidbit, in an interview, he mentioned that he’s a +1 Golfer. Normally I don’t care too much, but if it gives him an “in” to help schmooze some of the Southern Hills Elites that’s a net positive for TU’s NIL prospects.

I do hope he’s just as dedicated to the recruiting trail as he is to his golf game though. Lord knows we need that passion.
Adding even more value when he’s both the football coach and Men’s Golf Coach if/when we ever decide to bring that back (a fan can dream)!

He was a d1 coach who failed to make an ncaa tournament across multiple seasons.

Still is!
My view is that you're unlikely to find more than 1 coach at a time at a lower level who can be very successful up a level or two. So you need to hire the best coach in the lower level conference. Konkol had 7 years and was never the best coach in CUSA. Lamb is harder to judge bc he's a lot younger and has less experience, Konkol was fully "baked" when we got him, he wasn't going to grow, a toothpick in Lamb still comes out doughy so it's harder to know what he'll be. But I stand by the rule. That's the worry with Lamb to me.

Anytime you can take a team to the playoffs for the first time since early 90s is impressive to me. Must be able to do something right. I also like how his team didn't lose by more the 7 except once, the first game of the year. And had NDSU on the ropes until the final 2 minutes. I'm going to decide to be optimistic even though I had never heard of the guy until now. Not much else to be optimistic about these days.

I like this hire a lot better than some of the other guys we were supposedly looking at. The SMU DC? Yeah, no.

😂 on the video with him and one of his little daughters were walking through the trophy room , she looked at all of the trophies and told her dad “ that’s how many trophies you have to win “ 😂

I was initially very disappointed. I expected a bigger name. Then, I started watching some of his videos. My opinion flipped 180. I see what sold Moore & others on him. He’s very impressive. He’s really what we said we were looking for. He’s young, high energy, positive, passionate about football, passionate about investing in the player’s lives.

Initially, I think he will be working extremely hard at keeping players, then rebuilding through the portal with that same energy and passion. I also think he will be reaching out to boosters, alumni groups, former players, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing football players at basketball games this spring. I really expect a much larger student section at football games this fall.

Obviously he will ultimately be judged on winning games, but an injection of enthusiasm into the university, student, alumni & overall fanbase is something TU really needs right now!

We should cancel on Abilene Christian and schedule Ohio State. Get all the OSUs.
Yeah but if Lamb can get things turned around every game on this schedule is winnable. There's not a single game we go into thinking we're a sacrificial "lamb" for a payday. This is a can get to the CFP type of schedule with a few breaks, a couple of key pieces brought in, and improved coaching and game plans.

I don't disagree.

He talks the talk. So does the AD and President.

Now I want to see them walk the walk.

Until then it's wait and see.

I'm in tucson, limited access, max interest.

maybe you could help.
Made several assertions about what the coaching staff was going to consist of. One of them was that it would have 5 assistants who knew Texas & Oklahoma, and talked about recruiting the area extensively. He's already got one guy that satisfies that by retaining Switzer. So he has four to go.

Did you hear his comments on his staff today?
I could barely hear ANYTHING from that press conference today on YouTube... Had to put on headphones and listen someplace quiet the volume was so low... I did like what he had to say when I could hear him.

I had the same problem. I listened to it later on the TU football website. You can also listen to it on the Eye of the Hurricane podcast, which is linked right above your post.

And Moore said there is alignment for the resources to be successful to the board level. With trustees there.
I think with the academic and UG enrollment growth goals in mind, every one of the stakeholders (faculty, president, BOT, etc.) all realize that successful and high profile athletic programs bring in more applications and students and you can go back to the years right after big wins and bowl games after not having gone in a dozen years, the basketball runs, etc. and see how it impacted the number of applications and subsequent matriculations at TU for that year in a positive way. Now that there is a clear direction on what the academic side is trying to accomplish with a vision and plan to get there, TU is more appealing to a larger number of students, especially here in the Tulsa area.

Everything is pointing in a good direction right now. And I was one of the skeptics about Lamb's hiring. I still want to see how all of it translates to the product on the field but we should get an idea of the buy in pretty quick between the staff and any commitments both through the portal and possible TU players in the portal deciding to return.
